Breathing fast!

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Wow I did not know that HCM was more common in long haired cats. We are always at the vet just to get checked on and stuff. We did not know that cats do not pant normaly Sunny will do it every once in a while but only after rough play.

My cat was breathing fast because he had slowly become anaemic and was actually critically ill. He ended up being put in an oxygen tent and had to have a blood transfusion. Amazingly he has survived, although he is still receiving treatment and we don't know the cause yet. The rapid breathing had been accompanied by pale gums and he'd been sleeping loads

Please get the HCM test done. My Mya panted everytime I took him to the vet. The car ride stressed him out so much. Once he was at the vet and back home he was fine, but now I wonder if maybe he had heart disease. He was also long haired. He died after getting a COVENIA antibiotic shot. I still to this day think the covenia was the final killer, but I wonder now if he had heart disease and a blood clot. Like the other poster, my cat's lower extremities became very heavy, heavy breathing, the whole bit. I mistook everything for being tired from sedation. If only I could have those days back.....
