Hartz Is Killing Us

This forum is for cat lovers seeking everyday advice and suggestions on health-related issues. Remember, however, that advice on a public forum simply can't be a substitute for proper medical attention. Only your vet can say assuredly what is best for your cat.

Signed the petition.

We tried Hartz' flea & tick solution on Hoover before trying it on our other cats. She displayed a bad reaction VERY quickly. We were able to wash most of it off of her fur, but she was still lethargic, and very unhappy.

A trip to the vet confirmed that it was an allergic reaction, but that she would be okay. But I'm fortunate that she's still with us. That was the last Hartz product used in our home. I've signed the petition.

Kitty wore a Hartz flea collar for a couple months but nothing happened. It didn't get rid of her fleas but she didn't get an illness. But this was before I found out this was a bad brand and before the vet told me flea collars are useless.

I still have a Hartz cat shampoo that I use... its not flea shampoo, just a regular one for cleaning... Is this bad too? I don't find many non-flea shampoo for cats, mostly dogs.

I am so surprised that if all these cat conditions are caused by Hartz products, why big name pet stores such as Petmart or Petco haven't pulled it off their shelves. I think pet stores should be more cautious in selecting the items they sell. Besides, their customers are pet lovers.

Not every cat or dog has a reaction the same as another. You are one of the lucky ones who didnt. smile

I'm not sure why these products havent been taken off the market.

Hiss at hartz.
Its so cheap because its such an outdated product. Its deadly.
I've seen kitties come into the clinic with full out seziures because of this stuff. It makes me want to protest outside of every store that carries it.

Many years ago my mom used Hartz products on me. I was so lucky that nothing happened to me because she didn't know it was bad at that time. Since then she has learned how bad it is. It is unbelievable that it is still on the market! Hissses for Hartz.
PS - my mom signed the petition.

On a happier note - there are some (but too few) companies are responsible - did you hear that Ralph Lauren has stopped using fur products in his fashions???

I've had to have one of the Hartz flea collars before, and not only did my human get sick, but I did, too!

I have passed this on to people I see in the stores looking at any of the Hartz products. I just tell them - don't use it if you love your cat or dog.

Years ago we had a huge flea infestation (weird since we lived in the city, the cats never went out) ... anyway, we bought Hartz flea shampoo and washed our kitties. All of them got sick, the worst was one of my poor boys. He was drooling, twitching, his second eyelid was half over his eyes. It was so horrible for him. We tried rinsing him repeatedly and ended up rushing him to the vet (actually took all the cats - he was just the sickest). Vet confirmed it was a severe reaction to the flea shampoo.

Since then, nothing Hartz do I want to touch. Even their cat toys are garbage. I once got a pack of their little fake fur mice, not thinking about how hard they are. My guy was playing with one, put it in his mouth and ended up with the darn thing stuck on a fang when he bit down on it.

They have this catnip mouse toy, the outside is a soft plush with a little velcro pocket to put the catnip in. Now all of us have seen our kids rip a cat toy apart, right? This hartz mouse is not filled with something soft, like fiberfill. It's filled with little beads - like a beanie baby. I look at that toy and just think of all the cats who'll end up in hospital from swallowing those beads.

Just say NO to Hartz!

Sweetie, I guess they're "phasing out" the drops that have killed so many cats. In the meantime, cats are still at risk if their humans haven't heard about it. :-(
