It has been a year now since I found Spazzy outside the daycare I worked at. happy dance
He has been here at home with me since February. I am noticing some interesting things, such as he never bites me, only my parents (not often) and he has started jumping up in the chair I sit in at night and laying beside me.
We just had a death in the family, my Nana passed away and I've been pretty sad about it, I was thinking that he senses that and is laying beside me to comfort me. But he does it even when I am laughing or feeling ok. A friend suggested that maybe he is still settling in and is feeling more comfy here and thats why he is suddenly sitting with me at night.
He has always been a big suck with me purring loudly, greeting me when I come ina room, following me everywhere, sleeping in my bed. He lets me do anything to him.

So what are your thoughts on this? Do you think it really takes that long to be settled?

I think cats can take a long time to settle down or adjust an be comfortable in new situations. It says in Spazzy's bio that he had a rough first year - well, considering what happens to a kitten in the first few weeks of their life can shape the cat they become forever - I'd say it could even take longer than a year for some cats to adjust to a different life after a bad first year.
I'm glad Spazzy is so happy and has a good home nowsmile

I suppose I can't say he had a bad life before I got him. Maybe he had a happy home as a kitten, but somewhere it went wrong. When I got him it was obvious he had been living in the street, his fur was dull and dirty and he was really tiny. We thought he was a kitten but he was actually a year old. Now the 1st thing people comment on is his coat "Wow what a beautiful cat! So shiney!" his fur just gleams and in the sunlight it sparkles.
He did however wait a good 12 hours before I could get him a litterbox, which makes me think he was owned by someone at some point.
He is a spoiled kitty now, with a capital S. A good 40 or so toys that I rotate. 2 large cat towers, a nice big window to look out, the best food I can buy, treats galore, as many hugs and kisses as he will let me give him. Not to mention money spent on shots, neuter and the 3500 spent when he broke his leg. Then I got a new bed with 6 drawers under it. I took out the 2 that are at the head of the bed and put blankets there for him to have a little cave. lol, I don't think spoiled even covers it.
But he is more then worth it, so however long it takes him to settle in, it's fine by me!!

I think he is settling in very nicely. He finally feels safe enough and trusts you enough. Many cats like to be close and cuddle and yes he may sense you are sad. But I also think he is showing you how much he loves you for all you have done for him cloud 9

I took Lexus in as a 6? month old stray. She was almost feral. That was 9 years ago. It has taken many years for her to sit on the couch with me without my other cat Bishop being on the couch. But the most recent thing that she has started doing is wanting to fall asleep in between my legs and knead on me. It is so precious how far we have come together. One thing I make sure is that I let her open up at her own pace. I never try to force her to sit with me. she comes all on her own now. Because she feels safe with me now.

It sounds like you both are very lucky to have one another smilesmile

sounds like lexus is pretty lucky too!!
Spazzy has always been super affectionate, letting me scratch his belly and always purring, it never occured to me that he was still settling in. He is jumping up on the couch every night now and even settled in right up against my leg while I was playing a video game the other night. I love it!! I just figured he wasn't a lap cat and that was fine with me but this is even better.
He just wandered into the room, purred really loud and then ran away MOL

Phoebe was a feral I brought in when she was around a year, but she was so malnourished I thought she was a couple months. I have had her for about six years now and she is still changing and doing new things all the time. I think it ca take years for a rescued cats whole personality to shine through.

I'm loving this!!! When I first got Spazzy, he would jump up at the computer and lay with his head in my hand and fall asleep.
Now that he is suddenly laying on the couches I had my hand down and he fell asleep with his head in my hand again for the 1st time since almost a year ago. There isn't room for him at the computer anymore.
I honestly just sat there with tears running down my cheeks I was so happy. I didn't think I could love him more then I already did, but somehow our bond just gets stronger everyday.

They say that for cats blinking or closing their eyes while looking at you is a sign of great respect, security and love. Spazzy is so smart, when I say "I love you" he looks right at me and closes his eyes. Every time. So smart my little man
