Louis

Our cat, Louis loves to play fetch! I've heard some people refer to cats who run after things that their owners throw, then play with them without bringing them back as "fetch."

Louis plays actual fetch. He brings these little mice toys with rattles inside of them to us, then begs us to throw it for him. We throw it, and he runs after it, picks it up, and brings it back for us to throw again. It's his favorite game!

Does anyone else have a cat that plays fetch?

I will say that sometimes Ovid comes and runs interference on the game. He will chase the mouse, get there first, then start tossing it around so Louis can't get it.applause

Yes!! I play fetch with crumpled up paper! And my big sis Sara used to play fetch with pom poms when she was younger.

Cosmo

You love me, you- can't help it!

Cosmo likes to play fetch with the little plastic balls with the bells inside. He'll pick one up in his mouth and drop it at my feet. Then he'll sit there and stare at me until I throw it. The chase ensues, and then he starts all over again. Who knew cats would play fetch!

All three of my kitties play actual fetch! It gets a little frustrating for them because no matter which kitty brings me the toy, once I throw it, all 3 kitties try to get it and bring it back!

Fetch is definitely a favorite game around this house. I try to tire them out by throwing the toys up the stairs and down the long hallway laugh out loud

Isabelle is somewhat "fetch impaired" - she brings the toy to me, but then waits for ME to retrieve it after it's been thrown. laugh out loud She believes I am an endless source of toys, so why bother picking up the ones she "fetched", played with, and are boring now? wink

Amber

Amber loves fetch too, and she also loves to have her (beat up) furry mouse with rattle inside thrown. Her little variation is that she'll bring the toy up to the couch, and try to time her jump with the thrown mouse so she catches it in mid air, it is really quite the site! She is quite the graceful little leaper!! big grin

I used to like to play fetch all the time, but Mama says I am just lazy now. Sometimes I will bring it back 2 or 3 times now, but that is it. My older "sister" who I never met (she lives with Mama's first husband) was also a fetcher. We just had a foster cat that fetched too, but I would run and take the toy before she got it.
Retrievers are still pretty rare in the kitty kingdom, so you are a very unique kitty!!

Smudge

Smudge is capable of playing actual fetch for an hour at a time. He brings us one of his bunny legs (yup, bunny leg) and we throw it and he brings it back and we throw it... Sometimes it is very hard to get ready for work in the morning!laugh out loud Shade plays fetch with balls that he can pick up in his mouth and sometimes with a toy mousie, but he doesn't do it nearly as much as Smudge; he prefers to run interference!

Felix, my bridge baby, played Fetch. And I've tried and tried to get Coop to play, but no dice. He's got a pretty short attention span, though, so I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Louis

A very funny thing about Louis is that he has learned to associate the alarm clock with playing fetch. Usually, at night, when we are going to bed, Louis will bring one of his mouse toys onto the bed wanting us to throw it. Because it's bed-time and not fetch-time, we put the mouse in a drawer right below the alarm clock. When the alarm clock goes off in the morning, he jumps up and goes straight for the drawer where the toy mouse was put. He just about has to step on the alarm clock (it's on a nightstand next to the bed) to get at the drawer. I imagine that, at this point, it wouldn't be too out of the question to teach him to hit the snooze button!
