Arrival Story:
In late April of 2009, my husband and I went to visit our 81-year-old neighbor Ray, who was dying of cancer. While we were there, Ray's daughter asked us if we would like a kitten. A feral cat that had been dumped on their property had given birth to three kittens, which were about four weeks old at the time. When my husband Henry saw the kittens, he said "We just might have to take the calico!" Ray said "They're cute, aren't they?!" It seemed as though Ray was hoping we would adopt one of the babies. For the next month, Henry acted as though he had changed his mind and said that we couldn't have another cat, but when Ray passed away, Henry said we could adopt the kitten in memory of Ray.

Bio:
Rayna was the runt of her litter and much smaller than her siblings. I brought her home on May 26, 2009 (3 days after Ray passed away), when she was 8 weeks old. At first, we named her "Rayanne" in honor of her late "grandpa". A few days later, my husband suggested that we change her name to "Reina", which means "queen" in Spanish. We compromised on the spelling and came up with "Rayna".
