Arrival Story: I was born in an abandoned van with my brothers & sisters in the mid-Summer in 2003. One day when we were about 3 weeks old, our Mommy never came back to feed or care for us. (People said that she abandoned us, but I think that something bad happened to her becuase we were near a very busy highway where cars were always going REAL fast.) Some nice man heard us one day, meowing & crying as he walked near our home (the van), and found us all huddled together for warmth, and VERY hungry and scared. He scooped us all up in a big cardboard box with a big, old blanket and took us to his store nearby. He and his friends all took turns feeding us and taking care of us until we were old enough to be adopted into permanent homes.
Finally, after all my brothers and sisters were gone, I was the only one left, and the man gave me to his girlfriend's son, Chris..my new Dad. He took really good care of me and played with me a lot. Then his Mom had a heart attack & we all had to move into his Grandma's house, where his aunt also lived, taking care of her Mom.
One night, while I was zooming like a little streak of lightning around the house, I was running around my Dad's feet on the stairs. I must have misjudged the timing, because the next thing I knew, I was in a lot of pain & I couldn't step on my left back leg. I had run right under my Dad's foot as it was already coming down to step onto the floor, and he accidentally broke my back left leg, up near the hip. He was so sad & upset & he cried almost as much as I did. He asked his aunt to look at my leg, to see if it was really broken (she was an EMT back then). I hurt so bad, and was so scared...and all I could think was that my Dad had done this to me. And even though it was an accident, and he really couldn't have helped it, I was now very afraid of my Dad & wouldn't let him come near me or touch me or anything. My Dad's aunt saw that my leg was positioned "funny" and knew that it was indeed broken. She was so kind, and very gentle when looking at my hurt leg. She wrapped me up real snug in a blanket & and placed me on a pillow on my Dad's lap in the car (I knew they were helping me, so I sat very quiet and did not complain), and took me to the vet right away. After I came home again, she was the one who fed me, took care of my leg, and let me sleep with her. I fell in love with her because she saved my life (at least that's what I thought, even though I was in no danger from my Dad), and took care of me. I bonded with her after that and she has been my Mom ever since! My Dad is now my Uncle, and just recently I started letting him pet me again. I love my Mom and I know she loves me, even though she brought that little dog here 3 years ago! I was a little mad at first, but now I like my "little sister", Emmy, and we cuddle together on Mom's lap at the same time! And surprisingly, neither one of us is now jealous of the other. And that is my story. It started out rough, and I almost didn't make it, but thanks to the nice man, Mike, and my former-Dad-now-Uncle, and my Mom, I am a happy, healthy kitty, and I love that I live here!
