I love that son o' mine, dear Pippin, but lately he's developed a bad habit. He cries -loudly- when Mom is in the kitchen getting his pill or fixing our food.
Now, normally, Pippin has a sweet melodic voice, but this crying business is too much... let's just say the neighbors might be thinking he's under torture. Mom has taken to tossing a squirt or two from the "no" bottle in his direction when he starts up with it.
This morning I was caught in the crossfire! That sneaky son of mine darted behind me when Mom reached for that bottle after a bout of his crying. It's a pretty long range squirt bottle and I tried to be quick when I saw her aiming, but couldn't avoid those darn water droplets. I will grant that Mom's aim is pretty good, so Pippin got the worst of it, but still... it's not fair that I got sprinkled on account of his sneaky butt.
I hope he gets the message through his thick skull soon....
Pippin, quit crying! It's not like Mom's gonna give your stuff to anyone else.. *sheesh*

Yes, I do have a favorite son. I'm just going to have to come out and admit it. I know what you humans say, that all litterkits should be treated equally, but sometimes it's just not possible.
Pippin is such a sweet boy. He's so affectionate and kind, yet playful when the time warrants (as in, with the toys). Even his voice is sweet and melodic. Pippin's beautiful coat is colored as my own, and my mommacat's before me, with more defined spots. Slender and sleek, he is truly the shining one of our line.
Loki, on the other hand, is his father's son. THAT brute took advantage of me when I was still a mere 5 month old kitten. Loki was the only kitten to reflect his father's coloring, the proverbial black cat. Unfortunately, he also reflects his father's cattitude, walking around like he owns the place -- the thug. The biggest one of the litter (he's still a big muscle boy), he was the last to wean. Even then, he didn't want to give up his possession of me.
Loki's voice is straight up demanding, and the way he sucks up to Mom is just shameful. He constantly harasses me, saying he just wants to play, but I am not a toy! Bless my dear Pippin for the many times he's intervened and played/wrestled with Loki to take his attention away from me.
I know Mom tries to love us all equally. She gives Pippin his meds, and snuggles with him to try and make him feel better about it. She defends me from Loki when she can, and gives me loves whenever I ask. Mom even gives Miss Drama Queen Belle her "proper dues". But I'm afraid I just can't emulate her. I can't bring myself to lavish as much attention on that thug-boy of mine as she does.
Oh dear Ceiling Cat! Here he comes. Please excuse me. I'm going to find a spot out of his notice. I think I'll go find my favorite son and we'll sit together for a little grooming session.

Loki has been out of sorts lately on account of all the attention Pippin has been getting from Mom. Unfortunately, he's decided to take it out on me.
Mind you, this son and I have always had a somewhat rocky relationship. I can't help it, he reminds me too much of his domineering father (in looks and attitude).
So Loki spent most of yesterday pouncing on me, chasing me and just harassing me in general. The thug.
Of course this put me on the defensive. It got to the point that I just couldn't stand to even let him walk by me. Hissssss!
Finally, Mom picked me up and cuddled me right in front of him. Even though I was upset and growly, and even though I don't usually like to be held, I did let her this time.
Usually, she gives me lovin's when Loki isn't around so he wouldn't have any reason to be jealous. But maybe she was thinking that he needed to know that she loves us all. When she put me down, he came up to her and tried to act all innocent and lovey, but she saw right through that act.... She picked him up, gave him cuddles, then gave him a time out in the bathroom! MOL!
He's been mollified today, so there's been some peace. I'll just try to enjoy it while it lasts.
