Arrival Story:
Mei Lee was trapped, along with her mother and littermates, by animal control when she was about 4 months old. The humane society had had her about a month when she came to my house as a foster. Mei Lee was a major challenge. She was scared of people and didn't want to be touched. After several months of patient, persistant effort, she would let herself be caught and tolerate being held. At the adopt-a-pets, Mei Lee was very popular due to her beauty. Everyone wanted to adopt her but due to her behavioral issues the vast majority of homes were unacceptable. We finally thought we had a good home for her with experienced cat people so she was adopted and went home on a Sunday. On Tuesday I received a call that they wanted to return her. Mei Lee was just too timid for them. I was at the adopt-a-pet when she was returned the next Saturday. The cat that hadn't wanted attention at my home was now glad to see me. Everytime I opened her cage she was in my lap purring. I ended up adopting Mei Lee several months later. I had worked so hard to get her to accept some human contact I didn't want to risk adopting her out and having her lose what she had gained.

Bio:
Mei Lee is still semi-feral. She does want contact with me but on her terms. Mei Lee likes to periodically crawl in my lap (preferably when I'm reading or eating), face right and nurse on my arm. Since Timah's passing she has started to actually face left and not nurse--just sits and visits. While I wish that Mei Lee was a lapcat, I'm willing to take what she is willing to give me. She is one of God's beautiful creatures and I'm happy to have her grace my home with her presence.
