Arrival Story: Adopted him from the Siamese Rescue Center of Virginia. My Siamese cat Zachary had recently died from a very aggressive oral cancer. I thought I might wait a bit before adopting another cat because I also had my sick mom living with me who needed a lot of my attention. A very understanding cat-loving friend suggested I just go to a shelter and look at the kitties. I couldn't do that because I get too upset at shelters. I saw an add for Siamese Rescue somewhere and something was pulling at me to look at the website. Well, I saw all those needy faces there, and I couldn't put it off. There were many kitties, and I sent a few inquiries. Then Hershey arrived at the rescue, and his picture was posted. The picture made him look like he had big, goofy googly eyes which he definitely does not have in person. I knew i had to have him, so I put in my application. I went to the Center to get him. He had only been there for a week and a half, so they didn't know his personality very well. The door was open to his cage, but he just sat in there looking somewhat dejected. He let me pet him though, and I explained that i was there to take him to his furever home. I'm not sure he believed me, but he didn't put up any resistence when we put him in the carrier and didn't say a word the whole ride home.
Bio: Hershey is a very mellow, somewhat timid kitty. He hates loud noises and even not-so-loud noises. If something takes him by surprise, he growls and runs off even if that something is me. He doesn't have a very Meezerly meow; it's very quiet, but he learned that using it gets him attention. He is not a lap cat and doesn't often sleep with me, yet he loves attention. He always greets me at the door. When he sees me come towards him, he rolls over and exposes his tummy for belly rubs and kneads and purrs all the while. He can be very playful, and I have seem him leaping and twisting and jumping chasing little fur mice and other little furry and sparkly toys. He's a lover not a fighter, therefore he and Benjamin must be separated. He never learned to put Benjamin in his place.

The Last Forum I Posted In: (scaredy cat)- my cat is afraid of the house.
Mom dragged me and AnnaDee off to the vet yesterday. I haven't even been sneezing! She said I needed to go because I was over due for my annual exam. So, off we went. I meowed my low moaning meow the whole way. They weighed me. I gained weight. Mommy is pleased. Mom let me hide in the carrier, but then AnnaDee, big scaredy cat, had to come in my carrier and sit on me. Geez. Normally, she doesn't want to be anywhere near me. Then they lifted the top off the carrier (how'd they do that?!) and took me out again. They poked an prodded and gave me a shot. But worse than that, Mommy made them do bloodwork! I couldn't believe it! She said since I am getting older, she doesn't want to wait for any symptoms to show up. So then I had to get stuck! Finally, it was over. They pronounced me in good health. Then, it was AnnaDee's turn - ha! She got poked an prodded more than me. That's what she gets for sitting on me.
I thought the worst was over until it was time to leave. We went back out to the waiting room and Mom put my carrier on top of AnnaDee's. She didn't set me down straight and when she turned away, I went tumbling over. Geez, I need a seat belt and some airbags in there. I hope we're not doing any more vet trips any time soon. Once a year is more than enough!
The other day, Mom took us outside on the deck. We haven't been out there for quite a while. It was a beautiful day, but it isn't summer anymore. It's very cool out there now. The leaves are starting to pile up. The catnip plant is still green, and I ate some of it. Then I found something else: a little round thing. Some of the little round things are just that - little round things. But some wear hats, and one of these with a hat had a little stem that I could bite and pick it up with. Mom said they are called acorns. I swatted them around. Mom tossed them for me, and I chased them. Sometimes I chased them till they fell off the side of the deck, but then more fell from the trees. The noise scared me, but it was fun. No other kitty seems to like them, but that's okay 'cause that means more for me!
