Arrival Story:
Luis's mom, Belle, was surrendered to the humane society after she gave birth to 5 kittens. Apparently the owner's father was unwilling to let them stay. I got the e-mail and agreed to foster the group. These honeys have been living at my house since they were a week old, for 3 months. I had my pick of the litter and since I am finally in a position to own cats... I chose Luis and Apollo. I was going back and forth on whether I wanted Zeke or Luis. My family chose Apollo when they came to stay at the new house after coming down with an upper respiratory infection at the shelter. Then I put my foot down and insisted that Luis is my kitty and since they decided on Apollo, I got to keep Luis. The actual final say came when everyone was ready to go up for adoption except for Luis. His respiratory infection had yet to resolve, and a rude tech informed me that euthanasia may be an option "if it is a chronic condition." I resolved right there that NOBODY was going to put my Little Luis down if I had any say in it! And he is a great kitty!

Bio:
Little Luis has had a hard time growing up, his mom was emaciated when she had the babies, and she was not able to produce enough milk for her babies until they were 4 1/2 weeks old. This group was my first foster, so I was not concerned about their weight until we realized at 4 weeks old that they were too thin (his sister was only 219g, and biggest sibling (apollo of course) was 306g). We started supplementing immediatly, and they were doing a great job getting caught up. But when they were 9 weeks old, and really close to weighing enough to get sterilized and go up for adoption... Luis and two of his siblings started losing weight rapidly. We traced it back to the humane society giving us a different hard food for them. We changed it back, but by the time they stopped the diarrhea they had lost about 100 grams. All of their siblings and their mom were adopted!

A lot has happened since mommy has had time to write for me. My mom was adopted shortly after she went up for adoption. (My foster mommy gave a few volunteers some hints about a great cat!) And my siblings were all gone in only a few days. Now it's just me and Apollo. We both had quite a scare when they brought us in to have our surgeries. We were so scared that we might never see eachother or mommy again! But everything works out in the end. We are both getting so much bigger! Mommy has pictures, but hasn't found time to get them onto the computer. We are very comfortable with our family, although we really don't care for those kids that keep coming over and squeezing us too hard! Then they chase us down and grab us again, despite our crying! Mommy finally told the kids that they may pet us ONLY if an adult is holding us, they are not allowed to hold us until further notice.

But no matter how bad those kids can be, they don't come over much, and mommy and my family know how to treat good little kitties!

Also, mommy is continually amazed at how SOFT we are... I don't get it, but she really loves our fur!

EYEDROPS ARE TORTURE!

July 12th 2008 10:47 pm   [link to this entry]

We have gotten used to all of mommy's tricks. She wants to hurt us! These eye drops are the worst kind of torture! I know mommy means well, but some of my siblings are really starting to not like mommy.

Apollo, Marlow, and Vixen gave mommy some terrible scratches this evening when they got eye drops.

Luckily, our new daddy agreed to help give us the meds EVERY time. He holds us really tight and makes sure there are NO paws flying. Mommy gets to work quickly getting the drops into our eyes and the meds into our mouths.

Apollo is mad at mommy, he yowls really loud and scratches a lot when he gets his meds, but he comes over and loves up on mommy later.

We are waiting to hear when our mother will be up for adoption. We heard that our other foster mom's cousin may be able to keep her...that would be awesome, cuz maybe then Apollo and I could see her!

medicines are BAD!

July 11th 2008 5:02 pm   [link to this entry]

I hate medicine! Eye drops are a cruel invention of humans to make us hold still and suffer! Mommy has to give us eye drops twice a day, and the antibiotics she gives us TASTE AWFUL!

We are all getting along well... and my sister has an update. Luna had a crazt run around the house when she learned to hop over the gate at the door to our room. Apollo has been doing this for a while, but he always comes back when called. Luna was all over the place!

My mommy brought my mother in to the humane society today, she will get fixed this weekend and be available soon...but the humane society couldn't tell us exactly when.

When my human mommy brought my mom in, she found out that mom's original name was Vixen. That name does not fit our mom at ALL...She is definitally a Lady Belle. BUT we were astounded at how well that name fits my little sister! As the runt of the litter, she is sleek and sassy and Vixen fits her SO well! So as of this point, Luna shall be called Vixen!

And I am also learning that it may not be such a great idea to sleep with my human mommy and daddy, they move a lot and disturb my sleeping position. I figure that it is better if I sleep on the floor in our kitty bed.

We are all having a ball and growing every day! I can't wait until Apollo and I are able to run around the entire basement...it's gonna be so fun!
