Arrival Story:
Chirpy was one of several neighborhood cats from across the street who started coming over to eat in our backyard in 2006. His friends included a little tabby and beautiful Siamese cat. Starting in late 2007, he would greet us, usually from across the street, when we came out of the house or drove up in the car. And, of course, he would be chirping at us. He and several of his friends slept on our porch all winter. He and Louise Brooks, before she was injured, would often sleep curled up together for warmth on a chair on the front porch. Then, the first week in May, Chirpy's friend the Siamese cat was killed by a car as he tried to cross the street. This terrible incident, combined with Louise Brooks' injury, reminded us how dangerous it is out there for these cats, especially those who cross the street frequently as these guys did. So the next day, Chris just picked Chirpy up when he came over to greet us in the morning and put him in the house. I then took him straight to the vets to be checked out before he was introduced to our indoor cats. He got a clean bill of health, and has been living inside with us ever since.

Bio:
Chirpy and Louise Brooks were friendly outside and we think they may be littermates. They remain close and their affection is lovely to see. Chirpy's other good friend outside, a little tabby, has gone to a cat sanctuary with 5 other members of a feral cat colony we fed on the back porch of our old house for 3 years. We hope she is doing well there!!

Lily, she of the beautiful coat, tagged me, so here are my 6 favorite things about this scary/fun holiday:
1. Remembering that it used to be a little bit scary outside this time of year for cats, but I'm inside now, where it's safe.
2. Watching the street as the kids go out trick or treating. I love standing in the window, surveying the whole scene.
3. The talented Pigeon sent our whole family amazing Halloween art for our Catster pages.
4. Having my human companions put an Alley Cat Allies leaflet about the value and care of outdoor cats into trick or treat bags. You have to start getting the message across early!
5. This is the one time of year when we black and mostly black cats get our due. But I'm still waiting for my ride on a broom . . .
6. This year we are in our new home and will not be getting ready for moving day, which was last November 1st!

So I'm tagging:

Ella
Snickers
Lexie
