Arrival Story:
My sister took in a stray cat that was, you guessed it, knocked up! Midnight had three kittens and one of them was much smaller than the others. It has always been my personal opinion that the runt makes the best pet! When Mitten was about 12 weeks old my sister and her two kids brought her home to me. At the time I was recuperating from back surgery and was home bound. My 18 month old nephew came in the door carrying her and chanting 'It's Mitten the Kitten - It's Mitten the Kitten'. Well, you can guessed what I named her. There was no way after my nephew named her that I couldn't stick with that particular name. Mitten it was!

Bio:
Shortly after Mitten came to live with me I noticed that she would cock her head to side like she was trying to listen extra hard and that she wasn't really interested in chasing a string if you pulling it along the floor. I figured she probably had some issues with her sight and left it at that. My cats are strictly indoor cats any way so I wasn't overly concerned. When I took her to have her spayed the vet told me she was totally blind. It didn't surprise me but she was so well adjusted and got around so well I just assumed she had some sight. It has only made me lover her even more. She was always special to me but knowing she was blind made me feel like she was even more special.

Had to have an eye removed:
Recently Mitten had to have her left eye removed. We really did not want to put her through that, but the eye had gotten infected and she had glaucoma in it. The pressure in her eye were over 50 and should have been between 15 and 25. We treated it for about 3 weeks with drops and antibiotics before we made the decision to have it removed. She did remarkably well. Because our vet knew of the exemplary care she would receive, Mitten got to come home the same day of her surgery. She wore a soft e-collar for about 2 weeks. You can tell she feels so much better!
