Arrival Story:
Skuya was a stray in my yard. She is my first cat, (that I've had as an adult, we had a cat most of the time when I was growing-up, 3 different ones). It was 9 yrs ago when I took her in. I have taken in others since and I jokingly tell her, "You started it all". She hasn't forgot she was first and maintains a Top Cat status although she is not all that big, about 7&1/2#. Actually, I didn't really want a cat, (it's hard to imagine that now). I had guinea pigs and a parakeet. In fact, I chased any out of the yard because they were leaving "presents". But she was so pitifully skinny I found myself running to the grocery store for a can of cat food, and that was it. She was so friendly she soon won my heart. After I had her for a few weeks, she started to appear pregnant and soon delivered 5 kittens, some of whom I kept. They were born on April fool"s Day and I think she played a good joke on me, getting a home with me when she was pregnant, (I thought I was taking one cat in...)! She has added so much to my life, and always remains faithful and loving. She has been a great companion and I am trying to be a good hostess. Her name means "Sweet" in Lakota Sioux. At the time, I was married and my husband at the time is of that tribe. She has always been healthy, but for the past year has been battling what seems to be IBD. She has her ups and downs with that. It's a hard thing to have, but we are hoping for the best.
