Arrival Story:
I got Neko in an accidental way. I was at a Kroger in Missouri (it's a long story) and when I walked into the store, there was a cashier standing there holding the most pathetic little kitten. She had motor oil all over her and looked starved and half-dead. I was standing there with the cashier when animal control arrived. Of course, I continued my conversation with the ACO and he said that it was a shame she wouldn't have a chance. He said that they didn't have the resources this poor kitten was obviously going to need, so she would most likely be put to sleep. At that point I realized I had a cat. I told him so, he kind of smiled and gave me the cat. I had to stop at a vet's office, and they were very understanding and hooked me up with some meds, a bath for her, and a litter box (I was driving across country!). Well, I say hooked me up, it was still $150!!! After I got home, she went to our regular vet and got some more meds and other care. It became clear she was a feral cat and would have a really hard time finding a new home. After about six months, my darling husband and I decided to keep her. At this point, we had been calling her "cat" so we decided to call her Neko- which is Japanese for cat. She is now an awesome addition to our house!
