Arrival Story: We got Mama Kitty when I was around the age of 6-9, either months or years after I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. I remember waking up one morning stiff and unable to get out of bed (from what I assume was probably just a flare-up of my JRA), so obviously I stayed home that day, in bed. I'm not sure of the events between this and when we got Mama Kitty as my childhood memories are foggy. However, I do remember that my mother decided to let me get a cat because of this incident. So we went to the same shelter that eventually we got both Milo and Buddy from, and looked at their cats. My mother, having always loved Siamese cats, wanted to get a beautiful adult Siamese but I fell in love with Mama Kitty and her two almost-grown kittens. That day, we went home with Mama Kitty and one kitten, later named Thumper.

Bio: Mama Kitty's story is a long story, full of mistakes and heartbreak. One of the cats began going potty in other places in the house, from what I can only assume now her and her daughter sharing a litter box and them being rather territorial (yes, they were both healthy). For my mom, this meant Thumper had to go. I begged, and pleaded, but her mind was set. But of course, the problem didn't fix itself after she gave Thumper away and Mama Kitty began doing it. At her wit's end, my mother decided to give Mama Kitty away too. Again, I begged, and pleaded, but her mind was set once again. However, when we arrived at the shelter she got a call from my grandmother who, upon finding out we were giving up Mama Kitty, said that my grandfather had been wanting a cat and asking for one. So, my grandparents took Mama Kitty and she became an outside cat (they have a fenced in 1/2 acre far away from any traffic), and I have to say - I'd never seen Mama Kitty so happy. For the time that we had her she spent most of her day under the bed, not wanting to be bothered, and when she wasn't under there she would beg us to let her outside. Later, we ended up taking Mama Kitty back because she began trying to go into my grandparent's home, and they didn't want an indoor cat. So we happily took her back, and she lived with us for another year or two before again, she began acting up, wanting back outside, etc., and again - she went back to my grandparents. Mama Kitty rolled happily in the dirt so much that day, that by the end of it she no longer had any white at all - she became a black cat! Mama Kitty still lives happily with my grandparents, and I still regret what happened but I've also accepted the fact there was nothing I could do.
