Arrival Story:
One day,where I worked,a tenant of ours asked for me to remove a kitten from his shop,that had gone in under one of the counters..I did,and I pulled out a kitten about 3 weeks old,so very tiny and,could not walk,he pulled his back half...all dirty and skinny,I took him to the office,and gave him kitten food,and a saucer of replacement milk(something I always had on hand),let him have his fill,then,off we went to the vet.....though I did not have the $$ to afford his medical care,I was fortunate that there was a program that could help,but,the kitten had to be mine,not a stray...simply solution to that,I told them,ok,it will become ours.....so,off they took him as I filled out papers...before I knew it though,cameras were taking pictures of him,doctors and nurse heads pulled together in strange conversations,reports were being made.....then they came to me and asked where I found the kitten,I told them,and they just shook their heads...they said they somehow knew because that area has seen a rash of abused cats and kittens......I was told the reason his tail was burned and rotting off ,and why he could not walk,and,they could not guarantee,how his insides were yet,was because, kids abuse them by sticking firecrackers into their bottoms and lighting them....this also explained singed whiskers and eyelashes.......
They gave me the best course of action,if I wished to now have him.....after hearing what he went through,I was determined he will be ours...
so off he went to surgery,to remove what was left of his tail(neutered as well),and check as best they could for other injuries do to the cause......shots and a good deworming...and home he came....
along with food,he got for months,saucers of kitten replacement milk.......and one day,he surprised us all,by standing up.....I knew then,his legs will work,so,we did leg exercises to make them stronger.......and it worked...before we knew it,he ran and played and jumped....
our little miracle man...
6 months later,he ran into another life threatening situation.....playing under a dual rocker recliner.....oh it was fun batteling dad trying to tie shoe laces in the morning,so one day,White Sockes decided to hide in a new place to do so....we did not know he was under that,and,as dad got up,we heard that awful sound.........that sound still haunts me today....,well as dad picked up the dual recliner,no easy feat alone,I struggled with the metal spring,that had him around his neck,he fought and fought,as I struggled and struggled..and finally he stopped,and I won the battle,I quickly laid him down,told my husband to grab the big wooden cutting board and rip the towel into strips....as my husband tied Whtie Sockes on the board,I was doing CPR....breathing life back into him.....each breath followed by a promise to him,that he can have anything,as long as he lived........ I breathed and breathed,and then...suddenly,I see him looking at me,dazed,but still looking at me.........I held him still,even though we both had his pee and poop on us,from this ordeal,and started to cry as my husband called the vet.....a few minutes later,my husband held him still as I got dressed,well just a jacket and shoes,still went in PJ's....and off we rushed him,strapped to the board to keep him as still as possible,not knowing what damage may of happened to his neck.....
the staff was waiting for us....and took him right away.....a half hour later,,,,they walk out,carrying him,stating,except for a small dislocation of his jaw,not enough to worry about,just enough to give us a small croooked smile,he was ok.........,everything we did,worked and saved him......
I was also asked to bring him in 2 weeks later,for a special seminar they were having for pet owners on that very topic...CPR for pets.....we were there......all 3 of us...
