Arrival Story:
I offered to foster Nakita, her brother and three other kittens when they were tiny kittens. They were being kept in a cattery with adult cats at a cat rescue. I went there to take pictures for their Web Page and discovered the kittens. This is NO place for kittens as they have not developed their full immune system yet. By the time the rescue dropped the kittens off to me to foster, Nakita was almost dead. She was a skeleton with hair. Her and her brother, Junior, did not know how to eat on their own and they didn't notice. Junior quickly got the jist of how to eat, but not Nakita. I had to force feed her from 5 weeks old until she was 4 1/2 months old!! Bless the people who came up with the product Nutri-Cal! :) The kittens naturally had to deal with ringworm, upper respiratory, diarrhea, etc. They had been exposed to a lot of stuff out at that cattery. Many sleepless nights and vet visits with Nakita followed. She had zero interest in food and she became quite clever and could spit out most of what I syringed in her mouth. Then an odd miracle happened. When Nakita was just 4 1/2 months old, she went into her first heat and began eating on her own. She rapidly improved and now she is full grown and healthy. Her vet, who's been there from the beginning with her, just loves it when Nakita comes in for a check-up. The other kittens all got adopted into good homes, but I could not part from my Nakita. She will be three years old this November. (07) She's my love.

Bio:
In May of 2009 Nakita was diagnosed as having a degenerative eye disease. We always knew that she couldn't see perfect, but now she only seems to be able to see out of her peripheral vision. She was so emaciated as a baby, that it's thought that this is what caused her now to be going blind. I have her on a few supplements to try and slow down the progression. She still courageously holds the reining spot in our home as the 'Queen of her palace'. ********************************** Catster Honors: DDP May 27,2008 - COTD Sept 22, 2008 - DDP Sept 30, 2008 - DDP Oct 19,2009

Yesterday morning our power and cable went out. Thankfully the power wasn’t out for too long, but our cable service remained out until this afternoon! That meant no trotting around Catsterland for a day and a half! *pouts*

What a nice surprise today though when we discovered that I was chosen as a diary pick! Thank you to all who have kindly stopped by to say congrats and left treats & gifties. *appreciative hugs* Congratulations to Sampy, Aryeh and the other diary picks too! And a big congrats to Ka-Zar who’s handsomely sitting in the home room as today’s Cat of the Day!

Grateful Trills & Luv,
Nakita

Dear Diary,

I know the talk that’s been going on around here lately! It’s being whispered that I have most likely lost a little more of my eyesight. Just because I need a little more space around me to call mine, and I’m avoiding jumping up on counters and now like mom to place me up there, doesn’t mean a thing! *sighs*

Why just last night I saved mom from a dreaded scorpion! Yep, I sure did! I was out in the garage sacked out on the roof of mom’s car, when mom wandered out to see what I was up to. She doesn’t like me in the garage or on her car, but hey, I like it out there sometimes! So as she takes a few steps in her bare feet towards the car, I suddenly jump up and peer down at the garage floor. Mom looks down to see what has caught my attention and there, only a half of an inch away from her bare toe, sat a scorpion with it’s tail positioned for battle! Didn’t she see it? She almost stepped on it!

I leapt off of the car onto the garage floor to save mom, but mom thought she had to save me and quickly snatched me up and inside I went! Humph! I listened through the door and heard a bunch of little screams and things shuffling around! Then mom finally came in looking frazzled and said that she safely had the beast in a bucket and would relocate him in the morning. Sissy C and her beau found a perfect spot in the dessert for him and I’m sure he’s just as happy to be out there as mom is happy to have him gone!

Now you should hear mom tell this story! *giggles* She uses words like, ‘gigantic’ and ‘monster sized’ to describe the scorpion! *rolls eyes & sighs* I can guarantee you that the little guy was no bigger than my paw! He was a baby that measured no more than 2 inches long!

Now you tell me, who’s the blind one?!! *giggles*

Dear Diary,

Summer is here at our palace and so is the heat! Yesterday it was hot, already 99 degrees when we woke up in the morning! *wipes sweat from brow* Even the Sky started thundering out in disapproval of the heat and out of nowhere decided to pour loads of water droplets to try and cool us off which only ended up in heat and humidity. *sighs* The Sky’s tremendous voice scared my furmates, all except for Muppet & I. Mupp just stayed perched on the back of the couch gazing out the window and wondering how the pretty blue Sky could make it rain, thunder and be sunny all at the same time. I wasn’t that interested in such phenomena, I pawed at mom’s leg so she would let me sit safely in her lap.

I had to find a new spot to claim to nap in at night time because mom banned me from her
sleeping quarters! Humph! I’ve always been able to sleep with her before and this is justly unfair! I’m now stuck out with the boys, Sampson and Chico, at night. Mom kept having to get up at night and scold me for picking on Muppet. I can’t help it, she drives a kitty queen crazy with all of her ooh oohing at night. She ooh ooh’s when she jumps on the bed, she endlessly ahh aah’s when she looks out the window, she ooh aah’s when she gets in and out of the potty box. I mean, p-l-e-a-s-e!! We don’t need a detailed report of her every move or intention and I need my beauty sleep! Finally, when I can’t take it anymore, I will bop her on her head several times! Then I’m the one in trouble, go figure!

Mom says that she thinks that my eyes have gotten a little worse. She said that my ‘bubble’ has expanded in size. My space surrounding me has always been mine! Now a larger space around me is mine! also and I will bop anybody who dares to cross my boundaries. This has led to more hissy, spitty fights between my furmates and I and mom can only hope that everyfur will soon adjust to it. Other than that, I am getting around pretty well. I misjudge when I try to jump up on the counter sometimes and I fall to the floor. I tell my giggling furmates that ‘I meant to do that‘, and I just try again! Life is good, and I am still the queen!

~ Special Purrs for all of the ill kitties and doggies ~

Stay Cool!!
