Arrival Story:
The guys who work in the building noticed there were a lot of mice around, so they decided to get a cat to help control the rodent population. They got Rose as a kitten, she has been here for 16 years!

Bio:
Rose is loved by everyone in the building! The building pays for her veterinary care, and she is living a very nice retirement! Within a week of coming to live here, Rose had those mice on the run. She had the guys at her beck & call too! She has a nice comfy bed to relax in, and she loves to be brushed! Since we came to live here, I have started giving her canned food (a previous tenant also did this, but they passed away), and I have also started weaning off of her Meow Mix addiction! She is friendly and talkative, especially at mealtimes!

Rose, Mouser Extraordinaire, 1991-2008

Rose has been with the building since she was a kitten, in 1991. She was loved by everyone here, and was an excellent hunter and friend to all (except dogs and other cats). At 17, Rose was definitely enjoying her golden years, receiving lots of love and affection from everyone who met her.

For the last year, she had a few bouts of vomiting and her kidneys were not 100%, but she was in great shape for a kitty her age. In the last couple of weeks her appetite decreased and she lost a little weight, but she was more active than she had been in years and everyone was so happy to see revisiting her old haunts.

On Monday, Rose was in a spot she didn't normally hang out in, and was clearly breathing heavily. In light of her recent vomiting and lesser appetite (and age), we took her immediately to the vet. Poor Rose was quickly diagnosed with kidney and heart disease, she was anemic and had fluid in her chest and belly. A later ultrasound revealed lymphoma. She hid her illness from us very well, and in spite of heroic efforts from her kind and loving veterinarian, she quickly declined. We were able to get to the hospital on Tuesday in time to say goodbye to her, and she left for the rainbow bridge while being petted and loved by her friends.

I cannot begin to tell you all how much this wonderful, beautiful kitty has meant to all of us. She was our friend, our pet, our companion, our watchcat, our exterminator, and most loyal employee. She is truly missed by all of us.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers, purrs, kind words, thoughts, rosettes, special gifts, and stars. To know that Rose touched so many lives is reassuring. We know that she will never be forgotten.
