Arrival Story:
Riley (big eyes laying outside the basket) came from a shelter. I went in to look at cats-my vet suggested a kitten would keep Tom company and maybe get him to lose weight (at the 21 mark). I was looking at the cat below Riley and he knocked my cap off and snagged my ponytail. Then I looked at him and he is a ringer for Tom-could be twins. So he came home with me. He had worms (very bad) and had to be kept at the vets for several days to be treated-at the same time Tom was treated for cancer. They had fought non-stop before the vet trip and I thought I had made a HUGE mistake in getting him. When we all got home and I put them in seperate rooms-Riley slid his paw under Tom's door (where I and my mom were were sitting with Tom) and meowed a perfect "Hello". He and Tom played nice after that-they don't get all buddy buddy but they get along. Riley is aprox 9 years old now, he was 6 months when I got him. One vet told me that Riley has issues because he was likely from a ferral mother and then camped out under someone's deck until trapped by AC-they felt he was sweet (once captured) so to the shelter. Riley is still very skiddish-the pup didn't help that any. He is given to hiding under the bed and likes to follow Tom around the house. Tom is the explorer and Riley is the frightend back up man. He is better than he was, and he loves my little boy, but he will never be a social butterfly. That 's ok-he is very good at being the Riley!

Bio:
Riley is starting to shine more as he adjust to being the only cat. He still doesn't like the dog (but getting better) and he is in love with his new buddy-my almost 3 year old son. Before Tom passed, Riley didn't venture much from Tom and seemed to be much more timid.

Riley's Rambles

Not one of "the boys" now

April 12th 2008 12:37 pm   [link to this entry]

Since I came home with mom, I was called "the Boys" cause she used that with me and Tom-we were a pair. Now, I am getting used to be Riley the only cat. I am coming to see the people more often and even play with the little human-he is very gentle with me and told mom today "I fink dis kitty Riley is sad cause he miss hims twin, dat old kitty". Mom thought it was an odd thing to say since no one has told tiny person that Tom is indeed gone. And since neither of us ventured out much (mostly I just laid by Tom on "our" couch in the basement-where it was cozy and warm and not dog or baby to bother an old kitty) she was shocked that he noticed Thomas was gone already. She overheard him tell me while we were playing "it ok you twin is ok now". That spooked her a bit. But not me-little children just know those things and so do I. So today mom took some pictures of me and boy-aren't I the snuggler. And the new "head shot" of me is totally glam! I call it "are you barking at me" my new get tough on that dog face. Look out world-a new kitty is in town. *sigh and purrs* I still miss my Tom a lot-it was easier to let him be the heavy and I was the side kick. But all things change and someone has to edumacate this tiny person on all things cat!
Purrs~

My buddy is gone

Tommy passed yesterday. He has not been well for a while and it got worse in the last few days. Mom said she wished he would get better, but it wasn't meant to be. He is no longer in pain. I hope I have such a long life. Mom is giving me extra attention, it's just so odd to have him gone.

Movin, movin, movin keep those kitties movin...

We are going to move soon! Mom and dad bought a house and are so excited. Mom said Thomas and I will be set up in the man cave-dad's hang out-and we will have all our stuff in there. Then when they are at work or the pup and little boy are sleeping we get to have the whole house to play in. It's a huge basement so mom said maybe I could slim down a bit (I guess 14 pounds isn't normal kitty size) with the extra play space. Yeah, or I can get on the sofa and snooze. So by Thanksgiving we should be relocated.
