Arrival Story:
Max was rescued as a kitten from an abandoned tenement building that was being used by drug dealers. This building was right next to the laboratory where I work (it has since been demolished) and had been home to many neighborhood strays. I noticed Max's mom and her 2 babies playing in the small strip of overgrown grass behind the building as I walked across the parking lot to work one day. Mom (since rescued and gone to her forever home) would always come over for a pet, but the 2 kittens would never allow me to get close. As the weather started to get colder, Max's sibling disappeared. A friend of mine and I decided that we'd have to rescue both cats asap, but how to catch the baby? We tried for a month before we came up with the way that finally worked: an old-fashioned box-propped-with-a-stick trap, baited with the one thing baby found irresistable: tuna! He had been destined for another when we caught him, but she turned out to be very allergic, so I got to keep him!

Bio:
He came by his name because he would race from one side of our house to the other at top speed (often hurdling over our older cat while she was eating at her bowl!), sounding more like a thundering herd than just one adolescent cat, and because he didn't seem, as a kitten, to have any speeds other than top, or off!
