Skills: Define skill please? Making food disappear a skill? He will come when called sounds like a herd of elephants but he can move fast
Arrival Story: I love cats but it occurs to me that I am more vulnerable during bad times in my life (please see his sister's Sydney's story.) Once again I had no intention of getting a kitty. In fact I never had multiple cats before. I had a terrible day. Taking care of my mom was taking a huge emotional toll on me. I had just come out of a meeting where I was being pressured to place my mother in a home.
Across the street was a pet shop I thought I would buy Sydney a toy.I knew the store and right hand corner where the kittens were kept so I went in and headed straight for the toys making a point of not even looking at kittens. The sales person, a very young girl approached me, you know how you look but you don't really see sometimes? Well whoa! She was holding a little tiger in her arms.
My heart actually started to beat faster. He looked so much like my late Nikki.
Without a word I held out my hands and she placed him in my arms. He instantly turned on his very powerful motor.I held him to my face and he licked my nose. The girl tells me they don't have a cage for him. Somebody left him in a box outside the store before they had opened. I started walking toward the cash.I said I will take him (about 3 minutes had passed.) The sales girl looked a bit confused. I said, I will take him now. I think she was actually sorry to see him go. I had a 'toy' for Sydney. I just prayed she would like him.
Bio: I named him Wallingford (Wally) for my first kit. He had been left in a box with a note stating he was born on April 1 2oo3 and that is all. He looked to be in good shape. We are assuming he had been born in the neighborhood. He was my zen kitten.Never used his claws. He purred for the vet the first time he was there.Sydney played mommy rather happily, she groomed him, taught him the do and don't. They were adorable together until one day I caught him trying to nurse from her. She looked at him like WTM? She smacked his head and their relationship as we knew it was over. At that point on she would merely tolerate him. He tried to snuggle with her but she would have none of it. So he started snuggling exclusively with me.
UPDATE: Shortly after his 3rd birthday he got sick. After every test and 2,ooo dollars later I had a diagnosis. IBD. He is on prednisone which makes me very unhappy. Also on a special diet from Hill (duck and pea) Between the pred which increases his appetite and his high calorie food he has gained a bit too much weight. Since diagnosis he has had 2 bad flare ups one of them requiring hospitalization. I worry about him.At times he moans and whimpers, he sounds so human and in pain! I think perhaps painful bloating? He sleeps more than a cat his age should. I will be seeing another vet soon. I want another opinion. Right now I don't feel we are doing the best for him.
I just want him to feel good and stay with us for years and years to come.
March 16th 2007 The new vet is wonderful. Finally somebody is taking my concerns seriously. We are trying to wean him off prednisone and control his condition with diet alone. Doing it very slowly. He has been taking half the dose for a month now and so far so good. Keep your paws crossed everyone :)
