I woke up the other night and totally heard a mouse in the house. Everybody else was in bed, but I snuck out and walked around hunting. Was it in the hallway? No. Kitchen? No. Living room? Mayyybe? Under the couch? No. In the fish tank? No... Then I saw it! It was out the window! It was all huddled on a branch, just on the other side of the glass. I knew there was no time to waste. If I went to get the humans out of bed; I'd lose it. If I woke up Captain to help me figure out how to catch him; I'd lose it. So I did what any brilliant orange cat would do: I tried to dig through the window.
I pawed and pawed and made that "Eh-eh-eh!" noise that is supposed to attract prey... And that stupid mouse just sat there, stunned by the cold & warmth of the window!
I kept digging until Captain came and stood beside me, soon started chirping orders at me. "A little to the left, Scallywag! Put yer claws into it! More spirit me lad... Blah blah blah..." He too was transfixed.
Moose came in and sat on the floor, confused by all the noise and excitement over the window.
Then Dad came in, blinking and zombie looking. He staggered to the window, saw the mouse, and then he did something rude! He tried to pick me up and just take me back to bed! With a mouse sitting RIGHT THERE! How stupid ARE humans?! I gave him the shove off, and he finally left us all to continue our attempts at the mouse.
Eventually Captain and Moose went back to bed with the humans. I stayed up, gave up digging for a while. And eventually the little mouse moved on... Left without me getting to lick it, bite it, eat it, nothing! Bleck. It's so hard to be a Sparkman sometimes! That mouse was such a tease.
I've been tagged a whole bunch of times! And I'm so sorry that Mom's lost track of all my friends who've tagged me. But the latest was Abbey. Aloha, Abbey! And here's the five things I'm most grateful for:
5) Socks that don't make it into the hamper. (And somehow find their way into my food bowl! Yum!)
4) Mom's warm lap when we watch TV and she cuddles me.
3) Fetch time.
2) Having my Captain to cuddle and bath with.
1) PO-TAH-TOES!!!!
And I'm tagging any kitty that reads this and hasn't been tagged already... Consider yourself tagged! Purrrs!
Oh, Bastet! The most exciting thing to happen around here in days and I missed it!?! I was out on the porch watching squirrels and what do you think was going on inside? Mom was inside CLEANING THE FISH TANK! I came inside, all squirrel hunted out and found the fish tank cleaning hose and bucket in the bathroom tub. I looked at them, sniffed them just to see if she'd already done it... And then I ran over to Mom and shouted in my most pathetic and shocked voice, "MAaaaaaawwwwWWWW!?!" She apologized, claims she forgot that I loved fish tank cleaning so much and then proceeded to hug me and pet me and try to tease me with a feather. Hmmpf! I think it's time I traded in my human for a new one. Any cat out there got a less forgetful Mom? Mine's brain seems to be all used up. She FORGOT?! Ahhhh!
