Recalling the Gifts She Gave Me

Since she left me

I have often thought of her.

The night that she died was one of the hardest I have ever faced, but it is her life that is emblazoned on my mind.

She was an indoor/outdoor cat, because she was, at heart, a hunter. Though she was tiny, she often brought me birds and a wide range of insects. I wasn't always grateful, but in retrospect I appreciate her offers to contribute to our pack. She always set them right outside my bedroom door, precisely where I tended to walk. *yuck!*

She loved shoes and I remember times when she'd almost get her head stuck inside my mother's tennis shoes, and would be happily purring the whole time.

Each year around the anniversary of her death, I take a moment to honor her. I'm beginning to plan out how to do this year's now.

Thank you Fantine.
