Arrival Story:
Mama says: After I moved out on my own, I had a dream that Jesus came from Heaven and gave me an orange tabby that He had named Sebastian. I went looking for him, but didn't find him. Determined to have a cat, I "settled" for Mackenzie but have never regretted falling in love with her. A couple years later, a girlfriend's orange tabby got pregnant & gave birth to a litter of 5; 3 of them were orange males. She begged me to take one before her husband dumped them on the side of the road. I relented and said yes. She saved me the kitten with the darkest orange markings. Since we couldn't seem to connect in time for her husband to make good on his threat, I picked him up, sight unseen, in a box, at her mom's house, when Sebastian was 8 weeks old. My friend found homes for the other kittens, but since they were all outdoor cats, they all became road kill; Sebastian is now the only survivor of the litter. Mackenzie, who'd been a solo cat for 2 years, has yet to fully forgive me for Sab's arrival!

Bio:
Sebastian says: I was meant for Mama long before I was born. Being a boy, I'm funny about receiving affection, but when I want it, you'd better be ready! I'm a loud mouth and have no problems speaking my mind. There's never a wrong time to play - unless I'm napping and don't want to be disturbed. I designated myself official company greeter of the family, and I prey on any sun spot I can find. As I've gotten older I've developed asthma and slight kidney irregularities, but I haven't let that slow me down one bit!

Two Go Out, One Comes In

Mama's been busy moving things all around in the living room the past couple of days. She's also been busy with the telephony and her pmails and getting things ready for finding our foster guinea pigs new homes!

I'm so happy that the mama and baby girl moved out, but even happier than they went to their forever home on Sunday. Mama talked to the new family this afternoon and everything is going good for them and the little humans and the piggies are having a blast!

Yesterday, though, Mama took down the big cage and the table its been on - the one that the mamas and the babies have been living in while they were here. She put the boys in the smaller cage and took the big stuff out of the house. Then today she cleaned everything up and out came the rabbit cage.

Just when I was getting excited....

Mama leaves this afternoon and comes back with those scary "I love my pet" boxes. I call them scary because you just can never tell what is going to come out of them! This time Mama pulls out a bunny - well she says its a bunny - and put it in the cage.

I have thoroughly sniffed the cage and the scary box. Yes, this smells like a rabbit. I'm not sure it looks like any rabbit I've ever seen. This rabbit is the size of my guinea pig brothers! What kind of a rabbit is that?

Mama says she's a "pregnant" kind of rabbit, is what she is, but she's just a very, very small rabbit and she's here so she can have her babies. Mama says she's also had a hard time eating so lots of food and love are also on the list of things for small bunny.

No sooner had Mama put the bunny in the cage than she took the boy piggies out of the small cage, put them in a box, and out the door they went. She came back late - too late to serve me supper on time grrrrrr - but no guinea pigs were with her. She says they went to their new home tonight and now all we have is the foster bunny. Oh yeah we still have a foster hamster but I hardly ever see her; she's too busy hiding all the time!

In the middle of all this, Mama sat down to check her email. I got next to her chair, got on top of the paper eater box, and put my paws on her leg. She picked me up and for the next long while, we cuddled. She held me and rubbed my head and my ears and my chin and gave me kisses and just let me hang with her for a few, until I had enough.

Today was a very good day!

    Loving Mama's New Plan!

I'm so glad Mama is feeling better. I'm even more happy that she's busy!

Mama says new year resolutions are silly and she only resolves not to make them every year. This year, though, Mama has "had enough" and has decided to put her life together. I heard her telling this to Mackenzie and quite honestly, it was enough to make me yawn and take a nap. It's all stuff I've heard before like "loosing weight" and "eating better" and "staying organized" and "being a better auntie and daughter and mama" and all that stuff. I love Mama, but she has so many ideas...

Except that this time, Mama's serious. I wish she'd be serious more often!

On Wednesdays Mama usually gets up early to take animal shelter bunnies to their pocket-and-belly-picking appointments (I feel so bad for them!) so she gets home and she's ready to go. Yesterday Mama started right in by making her phone calls. Mama took a short nap and then...

she started organizing the living room. Sorting papers on the bed. Emptying boxes and filling containers.

The place still looks messy and please, don't go into the kitchen. Just trying to reach my water and food bowls is quite the challenge right now but wowsers I've had papers to lay on, smack around with my tail, new places to inspect and lay down, baskets to jump into, dust bunnies to sniff and sneeze about (at least they aren't real rabbits!) and chasing the dusting stick. Mama says she's moved mountains so far but I didn't see any. As long as she's happy and stays busy like this, I'll be happy too!

    Happy New Year!

and yes, it is now a happy new year because Mama is finally feeling better! She had me worried, I'm telling you....

Christmas Morning Mama woke up and told me she didn't feel very good; she had a sore throat and her nose was stuffy, so she hoped it was just her allergies bothering her again. I didn't think so, because she seemed awfully tired for just getting out of bed, but that didn't stop her from visiting family and giving out her presents.

Mama didn't have allergy problems; she had a really bad cold. It took me two days to finally make Mama lay down and sleep and when she finally did, boy oh boy did she sleep! Kenzie and I had all we could do to wake her up long enough to make sure all of us got breakfast and supper and then Mama just fell back in her bed to sleep.

I was in action, of course. I snuggled next to her; I slept on top of her; I made her the center of a cat sandwich when Kenzie got on her other side and we kept her in that bed for almost 4 days while she slept her cold away. Humans need to learn from cats that at least 16 hours a day should be meant for sleeping - they wouldn't get sick that way if they did!

Mama didn't start feeling all better until just yesterday! After her cold went away she was quite certain that her face would explode because the nose part of her face hurt so much and no medicine was helping her. Now that she's feeling better she's singing the praises of Neti's Pot for making her feel 100% again. I've never met Neti but if she can bring my mama back so she can play with me, then she's welcome all the time!

So, now that my doctoring duties are over, I've been hovering near the boa feather, hoping Mama will play with me. We've had a couple really good tug-of-war games and I even let her win one of them!
