Arrival Story: I had been thinking about adopting another kitty for quite awhile. I thought that Sally would enjoy having a kitty sister to play with and I felt like I was ready to bring another baby home : )
One day (1/18/02) after doing some work in central Phoenix I realized that I was only about a mile from the Phoenix Humane Society where I had adopted Sophie. I decided I would just stop by and take a peek at their kitties. I had been thinking about adopting a gray male kitty but you know how that goes! I saw Lucy (appx. 3 months old) and she saw me. She just kept talking to me. Making eye contact with me and chattering at me! She also kept reaching through the cage towards me with her paw. I had to bring her home.
Bio: Lucy has severe food and environmental allergies and immune system problems. She frequently has ear infections, skin lesions, and tummy problems. Over the past 4 years, she has spent months in an e-collar due to skin problems. Poor kitty!
She is allergic to all dry cat food and most wet foods, too. She is also allergic to nearly all kitty treats. She is currently on a medication called Atopica/Cyclosporine to suppress her immune system and is having positive results.
Lives Remaining: 7 of 9

The amazingly sweet, funny, and fantastic * Rocky Ann * made her journey to the Bridge last night. She was surrounded by her loving parents and the love and purrs of so many Catster friends.
Rocky Ann has been a wonderful friend to so many; always so thoughtful and her sense of humor is delightful (who else could make a PINK muzzle the most fashionable v-e-t visit accessory?). And who can forget the day that RA kissed 42 girlcats (and 1 boycat) all in the name of equality!
Rocky Ann has friends in VERY high places and even pulled some strings to get the President of the United States, Barack Obama, to sign my Catster guestbook (MOL! Mommy's still laughing about that!)!
When the Catster Breed game first came out, Rocky Ann and I were among a handful of kitties who played until our paws nearly fell off. At that time, kitties could earn an UNLIMITED amount of zealies by playing the game. We all played until our zealie banks were bursting with thousands of zealies (!) and after a couple of days, HQ decided there had to be a limit on how many zealies could be earned. MOL!
Rest in peace, Rocky Ann. I can only imagine your days at the bridge where every day is perfect strolling weather and the kitties take catnaps in the catnip patch and chase PINK butterflies. Sending purrs of love and comfort to your loving mommy, daddy, Eric and Paul, and all of the kitties, doggies, and people who love you.
As you may know, my beloved doggie sister Sophie is now 15 years old. She is considered very geriatric for a 60 lb dog. She has been increasingly showing her age for the last 4-6 months. She is losing her eye sight and she has arthritis. She also has very high calcium levels and the vet thinks that Sophie likely has cancer but they aren't sure where it is and would have to do x-rays and possible exploratory surgery to try and find it. Because of Sophie's age and because Sophie eats well, doesn't show any outward signs of cancer, and has maintained her weight, Mom has decided not to do any invasive tests or surgeries. The plan is to keep Sophie peaceful and comfortable in this final phase of her life.
This morning Sophie had a vet check up. Sophie takes a mild sedative an hour before she goes to the vet because she gets very anxious at the vet's office. She has been taking this sedative for many years without any problems. This morning, an hour after she took her pill, Mom was putting her leash on to take her to the vet. Sophie suddenly collapsed on to her side with her legs stiffly extended. Her eyes were open and she was breathing but she was unresponsive.
It was very scary. Mom wasn't sure if she was having some kind of a seizure or what was happening. Mom tried not to cry; she didn't want to scare Sophie by crying. I immediately came running down the stairs. I ran right over to Sophie and began grooming her face and bonking her with my head. After almost 5 minutes, Sophie started to respond to Mommy; mom picked Sophie up (60 lbs!) and managed to get her into the car. She became more responsive during the car ride and was able to walk by the time they got to the vet's office.
The vet thinks that because of Sophie's age, she has developed a sensitivity to the sedative and had a reaction. No more of that sedative for Sophie. Sophie's home now, sleeping on her doggie bed. She seems to be feeling better, just tired. It was a scary morning. I love Sophie and I was very worried about her. When she came home from the vet, I groomed her ears, eyes, and paws. I think it made her feel better : )
Oh my! I was innocently perusing the Daily Diary Picks (concats Edgar!) when I came across a VERY non-catster friendly link in a diary.
Catster friends, be very careful when looking at the Daily Diary Picks today (Saturday, Feb. 6th). One entry has a link that takes you to an adult website. Hopefully Catster HQ will remove it quickly but it is Saturday so they may not realize the problem today. Be careful and don't click on suspicious links!!!
