Arrival Story:
My dog Savannah passed away of a seizure disorder after a long hard year of struggling with and trying to treat it. After I lost her, I wanted to get another kitty to keep Seņor Chico company and went to a shelter, planning to get an older cat. The first cat the shelter worker handed to me though started licking me and purring and I fell in love with the tiny thing. They sent her to be fixed, so I picked her up from the vet's a few days later. As soon as I brought her home and fell asleep on my bed, she started having a seizure. I panicked, hoping that maybe it was a one time thing from the anesthesia, but it kept happening every time she would fall deeply asleep. I took her to my vet and they determined that she had been hit by a car when she was a tiny kitten (around 6 months, she was 15 months when I got her) and had a broken leg that had clearly never been attended to that healed badly and also probably a head injury from that that would cause her seizures forever. I cried my heart out, having just lost a dog to seizures, I was devastated at the thought of going through it all again. But someone said to me "Is it better for her to have seizures in your home where she's loved and cared for and happy in a cage at the shelter? Maybe she was meant to be your cat because God knew you could take care of an animal with seizures and she needed you." I took that heart and she's been living happily and healthily with me ever since. She has to have medication twice a day and she still has seizures regularly but I just love her through them and it doesn't slow her down or affect her quality of life at all. She's a special girl!
