Arrival Story: One day, a family cat disappeared. Nobody knew where he had gone. His mother went to the different area shelters and the pound to look for him. She came back home with what looked to be a similar cat: large and orange. "That's not Murrndog!" the woman's children cried. "Oh well," said the woman. "I paid $65 to get this cat out of the pound, so he's staying." The new cat hid under the buffet for several weeks, afraid of his new surroundings. He finally came out after the other family cat, a small orange kitten, befriended him and convinced him it was safe. When the new cat came out from hiding, nobody knew what his name was, so he was called "Big One" because he was, well, big compared to the small kitten.

Bio: Big One has six toes on each paw. He has also been in several fights around the neighborhood, so his ear is permanently messed up. He is cousin to Princess Merriweather, who is also on this site. And he has a brother, Black One, who will be listed on this site shortly. He enjoys jumping in trees and on the roof of his home, sitting on his mom's head and begging for food.

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 20, 2008 -- Big One's health began declining rapidly over the past few weeks, and his mother finally realized that it was time to let him go to Rainbow Bridge. Big One went to sleep surrounded by his family, who were all very sad and will miss him greatly. He was a gentle, loving and very funny cat, and will always be remembered fondly. Big One would like to thank all his fellow Catsters for their support during this difficult time, and he sends all his love from Rainbow Bridge.

Today my meowmy got a letter in the mail from the veterinarian who sent me to the Bridge. It was a sympathy card saying how sorry she was for my meowmy's loss and how she admired that my meowmy did a very kind thing for me by letting me go to the Bridge.
Then in the card there was an ink imprint of all four of my paws! My meowmy was so happy to have that as a token of me. She could tell it was me, too, because each paw had six toes!
So my family was very grateful to the vet for being such a thoughtful person and for doing such a nice thing for them while they are still grieving about me going to the Bridge. It's really lovely to know that there are such caring people in the world!
Having fun at the Bridge!

Dear Catsters,
Greetings from Rainbow Bridge! It sure is great here. I know my family is still sad over my passing, but they don't need to worry about me. I'm in a much better place now.
I just wanted to say thank you to all the Catsters who have sent me a star or rosette or given me a treat and offered their condolences. It really is very thoughtful and kind of all of you to express so much caring about me and my family. Even though I miss my family very much, I am happy knowing that they have been comforted by so many wonderful cats such as yourselves.
Very best wishes to all of you. I hope I don't see you at the Bridge anytime soon, but when you get there, I'll be sure to welcome you with open paws.
Thank you again for all your love and support!
Love,
Big One

FEBRUARY 20, 2008 -- Big One's mother has finally accepted the fact that he is not going to get better and that the humane thing to do would be to end his suffering. She has had a very difficult time with this, as Big One has been in her life a very long time. It is never easy to say goodbye to a faithful friend, but Big One is comforted in knowing that many people supported him and sent him purrs during his last days.
Big One will always be remembered as a loving cat who never bit or scratched anyone, who was always gentle and a loyal companion. He was an endless source of laughter for his family, was the inspiration for many songs written by his uncle, and could always be counted on to greet his mom at the door when she came home. He has been a dependable presence in his household for many years, and not seeing him anymore will be difficult for his family and extended family.
Big One believes in a caring and compassionate God who loves all creatures, and therefore Big One is confident that he will see his family again someday in heaven. He will always remember the fateful day that his mother came and adopted him from the pound, where he surely would have been sent to Rainbow Bridge much earlier than necessary. He lived a good, long 19 years, and those years were filled with many happy memories which will comfort Big One in his last moments.
Thank you to all of you who supported Big One and may each of you cherish the time you have with your kitties, for it is the most valuable time a person can have.
