Arrival Story: Violet was a neighbor's cat who really didn't care whether they had him or not. He spent a lot of time at our house because he liked our bird feeder. I didn't like seeing him outside in the winter, so he became an inside cat in the winter. I've tried to make Violet an inside cat entirely, but he still loves to go out just for a few minutes each day if the weather is nice. He has never gone back to his original home, and they have never inquired about him. That was several years ago, so he is officially our cat now!
Bio: When I realized where Violet lived, I called and asked why the cat was named Violet if he was a male. The previous owners didn't know when they got the cat that she was a he - and named her Violet. Violet is a very vocal cat. Different cries mean different things. The cry for "I want to go outside" is hilarious - long, drawn out, and so pitiful! If he doesn't get his way, he heads straight for one particular chair to show Mawmee that the claws need sharpening. That is about all it takes for him to go outside. Violet is also a very affectionate cat. He loves to have his face stroked, and likes to knead on your lap. Unlike his sister, Samoa, Violet is loud and walks down the stairs like a herd of elephants! He also likes to play with and groom Calvin. They are so funny to watch. It doesn't take long for a grooming session to turn into a wrestling match!

Some of my pals left a comment on my Today Sucks diary entry from yesterday, and I wanted to share it with you:
We are just meowless we are so sad. This is the hardest part about Catster. We fall in love with kitties that we have never even met and cry like they are our own. Willie, Murray & Pearl
We've been on Catster for almost four years. We had no idea when we joined this site how much we would come to know other cats and their families. Someone could have told us, and we wouldn't have believed them.
How can you get to know a cat through the internet? How can you love cats that you've never met? Why do you cry happy tears when something good happens to another cat? Why do you cry sad tears when something bad happens to another cat?
That is the Catster magic. It can't be explained . . . . . . you have to experience it.
You get to know a cat through involvement in groups, through their diary entries, and their photos. It's fun to share your life with other kitties from around the world because we are alike in so many ways - our funny habits, our quirky eating, playing, and pooping stories.
And then when something bad happens, it touches our lives too. We feel like we know that cat, and we hurt when they hurt. Our families cry because maybe we've gone through the same pain and sadness.
We know the Catster magic because we have felt it so many times. The outpouring of love found here is unbelievable, and it brings us even closer to the friends we've never met.
Sometimes when Daddy sees Mawmee sitting at the computer crying, he knows it has something to do with Catster. He used to ask her why she gets involved if it makes her sad enough to cry. He doesn't ask that anymore because he knows about the Catster magic. And Daddy has been touched by the Catster magic too because he even cries when Mawmee shares with him the latest happenings.
The latest happenings have been sad ones. It hurts when one of your very close friends is sick. Rocky Ann is a very close friend to so many cats. She is part of the Catster magic. Calvin was part of the Catster magic too - you let us know that when he made his journey to the bridge. We will never forget the love you showed him and our family.
And now it is our time to show that love to Rocky Ann and her Mommy and Daddy. People who haven't experienced the Catster magic will say, Rocky Ann is 18, she has lived a long life - her Mommy and Daddy were lucky to have her for such a long time. That is true.
But cats who know the Catster magic will also say, The three+ years that I have known Rocky Ann have been the bestest ever. She has taught us about love, and peace, and the color pink. She has shown us friendship, and shared her love of power stroller rides, Hello Kitty, and beds in every room of the house!
She is a special cat that we don't want to see leave us . . . . . . a friend that we've never met . . . . . . . but some day we will. We love you, Rocky Ann, and we purr that when it is your time to journey, it be a peaceful one. And when you get to the bridge and you see your heart basket, it will be overflowing with gazillions of tiny hearts. My name will be on one of them. You will always have a piece of all of our hearts, and we will never forget your friendship, and the magic that you helped create on Catster.
