Arrival Story:
This is the story of Rags "the factory cat" As told by his Daddy. To tell Rags story, it is necessary to tell you a little about where he come from. At the time I worked at an engine rebuilding factory. There were several areas of the factory, teardown, assembly, Machining & ect. Teardown was, as the name suggests, where the core engines were taken apart into the separate components. These came from Junkyards & garages of all sizes. They were dirty & very Greasy. Most of the core was kept outside in various stages of disassembly. This area became a habitat of many cats & smaller wild creatures. Most of these cats were wild & could not be approached, Much like the guys that worked in that area. But every so often one of the cats would get brave & take a hand out from the guys. The smart ones learned that food handed out was easier than food chased & caught. During the summer the cats stayed outside, & would never come inside. As winter wore on the outside area was snow covered and it was very cold. This Cat got brave enough that not only was he accepting food from the guys,But he moved inside & decided to stay there. Sleeping indoors+ hand outs=(smart cat). On the day I heard about "THE CAT", word had gotten to the machining are that one of the wild cats(as they were called) was walking up the main asile of the factory. It was lunchtime, and he wanted lunch, he was headed for the breakroom. One of the foreman saw him & said "get that cat & toss him outside before he gets ran over by a forklift". Now I am sure he was trying to be kind, but this brisk February day it was about -5 degrees outside & about a foot of snow on the ground. Having heard this I went in search of "The CAT". What I found was a small greasy thing that didn't look much like a cat. He was the color of dirty motor oil from the nose to the tip of the tail. To put him outside in the weather could have been a death sentence.Being the cat lover that I am, this WAS NOT gonna happen. I wasn't sure what to expect when I tried to pick him up, but if I could got a hold of him,I was gonna try to save him.Since he was to greasy to hold on to I got a handful of shop Rags & went after him. To my surprise he let me walk right over & pick him up. I thought Great, now what do I do with Him.Out side was not an option, so living only a block away from work, I told my boss I would be back in 15 minutes. To this day I think that cat knew that he & I were meant to be together. I put him inside my coat with his head sticking out. We walked past machine making so much noise that you could not hear yourself talk. He never moved. I put him in my garage (heated of course) & went back to work. I never meant to keep him, we had 4 cats already, so I found him a home before the day was over. I had agreed to clean him up & see that he didn't have any health problems, before sending him to his new home. It took 4 baths in dawn dish liquid to get all the grease off of him, He even threw-up black crud for 2 days from trying to clean himself. By the third day he was the beauty you see in the pictures. And I had fallen in love with this affectionate beautiful creature. I had to tell the would be owner that I was keeping him. My wife knew he was staying when he went from "THE CAT" to RAGS (which by the way is short for shop rag).
