Arrival Story:
While I was shooting my film about animal rescue, I took a camera into the old So Los Angeles Shelter, and Shane kept tapping me on the shoulder, putting her paw and arm through the cage. She was in a cage with four other cats that were found with her. I adopted her that day, even though I had a litter of rescue kittens at home looking for homes. But Shane, name after the movie, ALL my animals were named after a movie then, Shane was special. Then when I was out filming a year later, a fire broke out at my home. I lost my three dogs, one rescue dog and my other cat Thelma-Louise to smoke inhalation. Shane jumped out of a window and was found three days later, with burned nose and ears, her whiskers were gone. The pads of her feet were slightly burned but she was all right. Shane was the only survivor. Until last month, when I came home to find her dead. I had a couple of rescue dogs break out of their crates. (And while this happened before and Shane was fine) She might have been attacked by them. Shane, was not the healthiest of cats because she had a hunger for food that knew no bounds and while continual blood work showed nothing but some low blood counts (on white or red I cannot recall) nothing was conclusive. She did not have a scratch on her. And the dogs had been around her for a while. So I will never know what really happened. However the guilt is overwhelming. With Shane around I had rescued over 50 dogs. So she knew what life was all about.
