Arrival Story:
It all started when I decided that I wanted a kitten. I had a couple Siamese kittens when I was younger and always liked how personable they were. My husband was very against getting a cat, plus we already had two dogs. I tried for awhile to convince him but he stood firm. Then one day a girl I worked with whose husband was a Veterinarian told me they had tons of kittens that needed adoption. I was so excited and asked if there were any Siamese in the bunch. She said let me check, but the answer turned out to be no. She said let me call another Veterinarian that is a friend of ours and see if he has any Siamese kittens for adoption. The answer came back yes they had one – but she was already sort of spoken for. When I heard this news, I said I don’t care I’m going to go see that kitten. So off I went. I got there and headed in the back where they kept all the pets waiting for adoption. I saw her sitting in a small dog crate. A beautiful seal point Siamese with the biggest blue eyes I had ever seen. I asked if I could take her out of the cage and play with her. Then the most amazing thing happened. I held her in my arms like a baby and she just gazed into my eyes – like she was asking me “Are you my new Mommy?” I got the biggest tears in my eyes. I couldn’t believe how beautiful and sweet this kitten was. She just laid in my arms very content to just paw at my dangling car keys. There was not a single toy in her cage to play with. I went to the front desk and asked if I could adopt this kitten. The lady said that she thought she was on hold for someone else but she would check with the Doctor tomorrow to make sure. I held her a long time and then reluctantly put her back in the cage. I promised her I would be back tomorrow. I rushed home to tell my husband about this kitten I found. He was not as excited as I was but he agreed to at least go see her and decide if she would upset his allergies. The next day we went to visit Jasmine and she was sitting in that small dog crate waiting for us. She seemed happy to see me. There were so many other cats and dogs there too. All in cages, all waiting for adoption, all barking and meowing at the same time. It was a sad sight to see. I took Jasmine from her cage and gave her to my husband to hold. Jasmine just stared into his eyes asking him the same question “Are you my new Daddy?” Matt was shocked how peaceful and gentle she was and his heart just melted. As we were playing with her he surprised me and asked the lady at the front desk if this kitten was for adoption. My heart skipped a beat. The lady said that she had to check with the Doctor and he’d been so busy she never got to ask from the day before. So we played and played with her until we had to finally put her back in the cage and go home. Matt said she didn’t bother his allergies and he thought she was the sweetest cat he had ever met. So I set out on a mission to get this kitty. I came to the Vet’s office every day and sat and played with her. Finally after a week or so the doctor was available to talk to me about the kitten. He said another patient of his had lost her beloved cat due to illness. The doctor felt so sorry for the lady that he told her he would save out a good kitten for her when he got one in. Jasmine had been brought in as a tiny kitten with her mother and brothers and sisters. They were all homeless and in need of medical treatment. Jasmine was the last to be adopted because she was very sick and had terrible ring worm. She had been there at the Vet’s office for so long, just waiting in that cage, that all her fur had time to grow back and her weight had gotten back to normal. The doctor said that he had called the lady several times and left messages that the kitten was ready for pick up, but he never heard back from her. He said he would try one more time to get a hold of her to see if she still wanted the kitten and then he would let me know. I called and/or visited little Jasmine every day to see what the doctor had found out. Finally after 2 weeks the doctor said the lady had finally called him back and said she wasn’t ready to adopt another kitten. So he told me Jasmine was all mine to adopt. My husband and I rushed to pick up Jasmine and happily signed the papers to make her ours. She is the sweetest cat anyone could ever want. It breaks my heart to think she sat in that cage for 6 months with no toys just waiting for someone to adopt her. I’m so glad it turned out to be us. She loves to be held, hugged, and kissed. She adores dress up and pretty things to wear around her neck. She is our sweet baby girl and we are so grateful and blessed that Jasmine is ours. She has so many toys to play with now she doesn’t even know where they all are. She runs and plays in the house all day long and sleeps in the sunshine and watches birds and squirrels from the window. She is with us every where we go and she sleeps between our pillows in the bed every night.
