Arrival Story:
I had recently adopted my other two kittens, Mieke and Binx, and wasn't planning on getting another. Binx's brother, an orange tabby named Arthur, had died of a birth defect a few weeks before, and I was taking Mieke in to get her first shots. When I got in the vet's office, they had their free kitty crate out, and right in the center, shaking and trying to burrow into his litter box, was a little orange tabby. There were big dogs all around him, and he looked so terrified I picked him up and let him burrow into my jacket while I waited. Less than ten minutes after I picked him up, the shaking was gone and he was fast asleep. I was a goner.

Bio:
When I first got Julius, he was a bundle of nerves. From the start, he hissed at everybody except me. The vetdoc told me he was vicious, and refused to touch him at first, but I convinced him that baby boy wouldn't hurt him, and he agreed eventually. When I got him home, I put him with Mieke. I couldn't introduce him slowly, because every time I closed the door with only him inside, he cried like I was hurting him. It was a bad cry. He and Mieke were both young and small, and they bonded instantly. I've never seen anything like it. The first night he was with me, he figured out how to climb inside the back of a pedestal sink. I didn't even know it had an opening. I thought he had gotten out, and I lost my mind. Eventually I found him because of the hisses. Over the next couple of weeks, I sat in the room with him, not moving, just getting him used to my presence. Any twitch of my fingers or toes sent him running. It took Julius a month to let me pet him willingly. 6 weeks before he crawled in my lap. I had already given up hope that he would ever be cuddly like Binx and Mieke, and had accepted that I would just have to give him his space. When he eventually came around, it was the greatest gift I've ever received. Through the whole recovery process, I am convinced that my baby boy was abused before he got to me. Either physically or through neglect, something awful happened to him. Because inside the shell of fear and distrust was a loving little attention whore, eager to roll over for bellyrubs and monopolize all of Mom's time. I shudder to think what would have happened had someone less experienced with cats, or less willing to work with him, or someone who listened to the vet say he was vicious because he hissed....I can't bear to think what would have happened if someone else had taken my sweet baby boy home. I have never believed in fate. I have never been willing to accept that death would bring good things, because it never has for me before. But I saw Julius because Mieke needed her shots. And I had Mieke because when Arthur was in his last day, I didn't want his sister to be alone. I think Arthur is my angel, who led me to this sweet baby boy and helped me to save his life. I was just in time, too. The vet was about to take him to the pound because he had been in the free kitty crate for too long, and a new litter of kittens needed homes. I thank my Arthur every day for this gift he has given me.

My Mommy Gots A Bad Sicky-Sick!

So I haven't seen my mommy much this week. I'm still not as reliable as she'd like with my whole peepee problem, so I'm not allowed in her room. Usually she comes and sits with us kitties every day all day as much as she can. But this week she's been in bed ALL WEEK, and when she comes out she only pets me a little bits. I try to follow her like a good boy, but she closes the door to the potty room and I can hear her meowing in there!!!

Mommy didn't know why she's been feeling so crummy, so this morning she gave me extra lipbonks on my nose and left with the aunties really early. She said she went to her school's health center to find out what was going on. But the school sent her to the local ER! Mommy went like a good girl, and called Grammaw to come support her. Grammaw knew Mommy was sick, but didn't expect the ER. Mommy waited two hours before Grammaw got there, and it was another four hours before they gave her a diagnosis!

The end result? My mommy has somefing called a swiney flu. She's been sent to Grammaw's house so that she doesn't expose the aunties any more than she already has. But she's not too worried. She kept her distance, and according to the hoomandoc, her asthma and age made her a prime target for this sicky-sick. I miss her already. She wishes she could have brought me, but it just wasn't possible this trip. Momma's boy misses his momma.

I Made A Friend!

Ok so you all know my history cause it's on my page. If not, I was abused as a kitty and my mommy is working furry hard on helping me overcome it. Fur a long time I've only let my mommy pet me. Occasionally I let her roommates pet me, but I'm furry scaredy and have my limits with them. Only mommy has ever been allowed to give me my big boy belly rubs. And boy do I love my big boy belly rubs.

Well a few days ago, Mommy was sitting next to her friend Amanda on my couch. I sometimes let Amanda pet me, because she's always over and she's nice and quiet. She loves kitties. I was sitting up on the back of the couch and Mommy was petting my cheeks and rubbing my ears over her head. She wasn't paying me her full attention though! They were watching the big noisy box thing, and as a big boy, I demand my right to big boy belly rubs. So I climbed down into Mommy's lap and meowed really pretty and gave her some headbonks. I have her trained so she started petting me with her full attentions. I rolled over on my back and got belly rubs!

Well, Amanda must have caught wind of the fact that I am a ladies' man, and she started scratching at my ears. I was so surprised I rolled over and stood up! Mommy thought I was going to bolt, so she talked to me nice and smooth, just like I like it, and told me Amanda wasn't going to hurt me. I trust my mommy, so I figured I'd give this new lady a try. Mommy told her to hold out her hand palm up, and she obeyed. I sniffed her and headbonked her hand! Mommy was so surprised, she told me how good I was. So I decided it wouldn't hurt to climb into this new lady's lap and lie down!

Now this may not sound like much, but I've never sat in anyone's lap but Mommy's. I got so much praise, and lots of love from the both of them! Amanda is officially my new friend, and I remain the consummate ladies' man.

Mommy is so purrroud of my progress she even took a break from her piles of homework to share with all of my Catster furrriends!

I've been away!

So I haven't forgotten about Catster and all our wonderful furrriends on here. Mom's just been furry busy what with starting schools again and losing me and her furrriends wanting her attention. Not to mention my pesky sisfurs! Basically, Mom's lucky if she gets to bed before 2 am. She's been furry tired so I've been furry careful to cuddle her extras and remind her I'm here till she pets me.

The good news is, those irresponsible roommates moved out. We have two girls living with us now, and are looking for someone to fill our other room, but Mom is being more careful this time around. The bad news is, both the irresponsible roommates have stiffed Mom. I had to ask her what that meant. She said they took advantage of their friendship with the other two roommates, and pulled the old, "'I'm a friend of a friend, you can trust me" gag, whatever that means. So Mom gave them a few days to sign their leases and pay up. The girls not only didn't sign, they decided they didn't want to rent a room after all, and left without paying Mom at ALL! So now Grammaw and Grampaw say that Mom has to be really strict with tenants. Mom doesn't like this whole middleman between tenants and landlords (Grammaw and Grampaw are the landlords) thing. She isn't a detail-oriented person and feels uncomfortable talking to people about money. But she's in this situation, she just has to deal.

Aside from that, Mom hasn't given me any Catster time. She just curls up on the couch and looks at this little square thingy. Mieke thinks it looks really tasty, but Mom says books aren't for kitties. The few Catster minutes I get, I rush to answers to try to help, but that's about all I've had time to do.

Just wanted to say I still love you all. I'll be trying to catch up on diary entries and such, but it may take a while. Bye!
