Rocket Sprocket dropping in today to say, it's the second anniversary of Rocket Sprocket's journey to the Bridge. The Rocket reports, all is great, we get lots of chocolate cake. I am rockin' 'round the clock with my Bridge furiends. Cheers!
Rocket Sprocket

One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock,
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock,
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.

Put your glad rags on and join me, hon,
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the clock strikes two, three and four,
If the band slows down we'll yell for more,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the chimes ring five, six and seven,
We'll be right in seventh heaven.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too,
I'll be goin' strong and so will you.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then,
Start a rockin' round the clock again.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

Can't believe you departed to the Rainbow Bridge one year ago today, March 5, 2010.

We still remember your gotcha day -- September 5, 1992 -- in detail. The weather was hot and breezy that Labor Day weekend. The wind gently brushed against the leaves of the giant Live Oaks that shaded the Humane Society campus, filling the air with the sounds of heaven's wind chimes.

Walking through the Society's feline compound, we were immediately drawn to the kitten playpen. You were so tiny, so quiet, sitting all alone, all by yourself in that huge playpen filled with rambunctious kittens. When you looked up at us, piercing our souls and hearts with your giant amber eyes ... it was instant love. We knew right then and there, you were the one!

Thank you, dear Rocky, for showering us with almost 18 glorious years of your love! We miss your zooming through the rooms of our earthly homes. But we know you are zooming the heavenly rooms at the Rainbow Bridge.

Missing you forever,
your loving family.

Wow … Hard to believe I’ve been at the Bridge for 10 days. No pain, no blindness, no tummy issues, no pills being rammed down my throat. And, no more dealing with B.Rain Tumor; that’s the best part! Living at the Bridge is almost like being on vacation every day. I’ve got my special streamlined wings; I’ve mastered the art and science of zooming from cloud to cloud and then some – and I go even faster now that I have wings. Mom, if you could see me now, you’d be laughing hysterically.

I get to spend lots of time catching up with my furfamily who arrived at the Bridge long before I made my journey. Oh, mom … you remember Bitchy Lucy? Well, she’s still Bitchy Lucy. Talk about a cat with an attitude! I thought she would have softened when arriving at the Bridge. But no. She’s still ruling the roost! And the legendary DustytheDogcat sends his love. We’re all having a blast, so please don’t worry about us.

The hardest part about being a new Angel is missing my family and Shady and all my Catster furiends on Earth – it’s so hard to say goodbye. However, I am so happy to be free of my old body and all the aches that go with aging. Mom, you made the right decision, that’s for sure!

Since 01/20/2010, seems I had a steady stream of well wishes from many Catster furiends. I see I have a number of ‘Thank Yous’ to send:

Thank You for My Special Stars:

A Special, Sparkly ‘Welcome to Kitty Heaven’ Star from my dearest guardian angel Buddie .. always loved (and thank you for being there in my house, protecting me and loving me and feeding me Heavenly Healing Ice Cream during my final weeks; you helped me through the challenges, my furiend).

I know it hurts to say goodbye, but it was time for me fly. I am sorry I had to leave ya’ll short-pawed. A tilt of my heavenly hard hat to all you guys – a most pawsome group of Man Cats!

Forever love and gentle purrs from the bottom of my heart to all my furiends!

As any furparent knows, bidding farewell to a furbaby is hard, but MAKING that dreaded decision is THE hardest thing. Once I knew I made the right decision, I was so relaxed and comfortable. I couldn't wait for Rocky to be released from his frail and tired body.

The Rocket Man was surrounded by love and warmth, right up to his final launch. On the drive to the vet, we played Elton John's "Rocket Man" and "High Flying Bird" on the car's CD player. Those are (and will always be) Rocky's tribute songs. Rocket had a wonderful, peace-filled sendoff. Now he's free to zoom the rooms up at the Bridge.

Speaking of zooming rooms, are you ready for a few highlights of his funnier moments? Time for a snapshot from Rocky's E-ticket life:

Rocket Sprocket. The Name Fits!
When we adopted Rocky on Labor Day weekend 1992, his original name given by the Humane Society was Tiger Lily. Um, no...we knew that was not the right name for Rocky. He needed the right name for his personality, so we waited a few days to get to know him better.

Very soon after his arrival at our home, we all agreed his name would be Rocket Sprocket and he would be nicknamed Rocket J Squirrel and Rocket Man. Why?

Because Rocket was energy-filled and multi-talented beyond imagination. Rocket flew through the air with the greatest of ease. Rocket would make a funny little squirrelly, sprocket-like trill, then he'd take off in a flash without warning (and without the need to wriggle his rear end to build energy) and he would literally take off like a rocket and zoom the rooms of our little tiny house --- ON the walls. Not on the floor. Not on the furniture. ON THE WALLS. Many times, he would almost reach the ceiling. I had never seen anything like it! Rocky made us laugh so hard our sides would hurt.

And when he was finished zooming the rooms, he'd suddenly stop on a dime (errrrrrrrrrt) in the kitchen by his bowl, neatly tuck all four feet together in this cute little package, look up at us, blink those huge golden orbs and say "Wasn't that fun?" and "Aren't I cute?" and "Now, got any food for MEEE?"

I also used to catch the little stinker pot sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets too. I'd be in the kitchen making dinner or whatever, then get this feeling I was being watched. I'd look up and see him staring down, Snoopy-style (as if he were perched on top of Snoopy's dog house).

Too bad I didn't own a video camera back in the 90s.

Cliff Diving, Anyone?
Looking back, we probably should have named him Evel Knievel. Why? Well, after we moved to Indiana, we bought a larger home that had even MORE walls. Plus it had a dramatic vaulted ceiling in the great room and a two-story high entry/foyer ceiling with loft overlook. That house was Rocky's playground.

In addition to zooming rooms on the walls of his new house up near the vaulted ceiling, Rocky used to climb the stairs to the second floor in two jumps and then run over to the loft area, hang three-fourth's of his body from the loft area, dangle his front legs in the air (over our heads) all the while looking down at us, as if to dare -- "I'm gonna jump on you!" I swear there were times I fully expected him to slip and fall or jump on one of us on purpose. I always braced myself for coming home one day and finding an injured cat (or worse). But, nope (thankfully). Rocket had incredible balance and enough smarts to know to not jump.

Kitty Tile Skating, or Curling with Cats?
A year after we moved into the house in Indiana, we replaced the icky hallway carpet with ceramic tile, and Rocky discovered kitty tile skating (or perhaps he considered it curling with cats?). Rocky would race through the great room (which was carpeted), then round the corner and hit that tiled hallway (it was a long one) and slide -- on purpose -- all the way down and play "chicken" with the door at the other end. Rocky never hit that door; instead he had the agility to turn on a dime and hang a quick right to slide into the kitchen. Rocky used to entice the Dogcat to follow him down that long tiled hallway. Unfortunately, the Dogcat could not stop on a dime (at 26 pounds, he had a lot of tonnage for four little hairy feet to stop) and Dusty would always end up sliding into that closed door at the other end of the hallway. Yet, Rocky could always get Dusty to play that sliding game multiple times every day. I could tell, they were having tons of fun.

Rocky was an awesome, incredibly smart kitty, that's for sure. I was lucky to share his amazing life.

And, in 17.5 years, he certainly made very good use of his 9 lives! Without a doubt, Rocket is now teaching a few new tricks to all the furs at the Bridge. Look out Angels. Most certainly, the Bridge will never be the same!

Thank you to everyone for your kindness and outpouring of love for Rocket and his family.

We all knew this day would come. Well, it's here.

After weeks of continual worry, constantly fighting the demon in my brain in recent months, and after experiencing horribly bad days recently (including today), I am so relieved to report, the Rocket Man is about to make his ultimate journey!

My pain will be over very soon. B.Rain Tumor might have won this fight, but ultimately I get to spend eternity feeling healthy once again ... and I will be with my furfamily Angels and Bridge furiends jumping from cloud to cloud at the speed of light. You know, my family calls me The Rocket Man for a reason. I am so happy that I will, once again, get to live up to that nickname! Look out Bridge, here I come!

I've had 17.5 glorious years on Earth with my loving family. My privileged life is one to make any prince envious.

Right now, I am seated comfortably on my nest on the couch. Shady and my human family are gathered around me. And, oh my goodness ... you should see the fursAngels in the living room. It's PACKED TO THE CEILING with so many Bridge Angels. I see Buddie, Calvin, Lola, Rocky Ann, Biscuit, FUBAR, Sophie, Molly, Bobcat, Freddie, Bitchy Kitty Lucy (I still hate her guts, but she is my for-real fursister and I do love her), Sophie the White German Shepard (who I also hated in life, but still love), Tiffany, Cleo, Smokey Bear, Sid, Spacey, Smokey, Rosebud and of course, my brofur Angel the legendary DustytheDogcat. The room is overflowing with furAngels and love ... it's amazing!

Very soon tonight, my human family will drive me to see Dr Martin one last time. I just hope there's room in the car for all my Guardian furAngel friends. (Wait, they have wings. I better call air traffic control and have 'em clear the runway and make some air space!)

Well, I need to spend more time with my family and get ready. But rest assured, this is the right decision and I will report in from time to time after I get to the Bridge; I'll let everyone know how things are going.

Forever love, soft purrs and gentle hugs...
Your furiend always,

I did not want my dinner of warmed ZD pate and turkey gravy.
My refusal to eat my dinner made mom very sad.
She's worried about how to get me to eat without resorting to appetite stimulants.
About 1:15am Tuesday, I let mom know I was maybe a little hungry.
I ate four bites of my snicky-snack nuggets and drank some fresh water.

I tell my mom to not worry. At least I have not gone off the deep end and into my dementia-driven rage in the last 24 hours. That's a good thing.

After my snack, mom picked me up and brushed me and loved me and hummed me sweet songs. Then she tucked me in my toasty warm bed. My guardian angels will sing me lullabies throughout the rest of the night, so mom can get some sleep.

But the best thing that happened tonight -- I touched noses with Shady and he didn't run away! He came closer to give me kisses on the top of my head. I love Shady and I know Shady loves me.

Nightie-night!

I have a new catitude about food.

Everyone tells me I need it. But, do I really want it? Depends.

What I had for breakfast today does not mean I want it for dinner tonight.
It does not mean I will eat it again for breakfast tomorrow.

People food or cat food. It doesn't matter.

Open a fresh can of tuna and drown my ZD pate with tasty morsels from the deep blue sea?
Worked Friday morning.
Not Friday night.
Not Saturday morning.

Open a jar of fresh, sweet beef baby food, mix it into my ZD pate and heat to make a savory treat?
Tasted great with crackers on Friday night!
Don't you dare pass that off as acceptable fare on Saturday night!
What a fright!

Slather my ZD pate with freshly roasted For Real roast beef and leave it swimming with herbaliciously delicious au jus for a thick soupy blend that's sure to stick to your ribs?
Mmmmmm. Mmmmmmm.
Was good Sunday night.
Not passing the Rocket Man's lips on Monday.

Cover my ZD pate with Welactin -- the salmon oil packed with vitamins -- and pass it off as the real salmon deal?
I bought it Monday morning.
I can guarantee it won't pass muster Monday night.

I'm about 122.5 years old in human years. I'm an old cat with catitutde and I'm calling the shots! Can't wait to see what mom tries to pass off as dinner tonight!

Dear furiends, sisfurs and brofurs,

Your humble narrator has experienced an up and down week with Di Mentia.

For most of the week, Di has been relatively cooperative -- thanks in great part to my Guardian Angels watching over me, reading me stories to take my mind elsewhere, feeding me Heavenly Healing and Furrrench Vanilla ice cream, and comforting me at night when all the humans are asleep. However, I have had a few episodes where, for no reason at all, Di really got to me and I went ballistic on mom numerous times and on Shady three times.

Poor Shady. It was only three nights in a row ... he was simply trying to walk to the kitchen to get a drink of fresh spring water or a bite of kibble. I was asleep on my couch perch when Di woke me and told me it was time to go on a hunt. Suddenly, the Rocket Man sprang into action and found his prey and jumped on it. He thought it was an evil giant rat! One must be diligent in keeping evil giant rats at bay, so he did his feline duty. Oh, the growling and hissing and swatting and spitting! Turns out, this mystery prey was Shady, but the Rocket Man didn't know it was Shady. Now Shady is afraid to come near Rocket Sprocket or let the Rocket Man share the cushy cat beds with him. If Rocket come near Shady, Shady crouches and tries to slink away. I guess I can't blame Shady for being fearful of Rocket.

Poor mom. She comes to Rocket Sprocket's rescue every time she hears one of the Rocket Man's moments with Di Mentia. One of those times, she didn't get Rocket wrapped up in a blanket soon enough and she got bit hard on the arm; Rocket Man thought she was another evil giant rat and started to gnaw; he left a tiny puncture with his one upper (and very sharp) canine tooth. Yet, mom continues to care for her Rocket Sprocket with great love and affection. She makes sure Rocket is clean, fed, and kept warm. She's even spoiled me, the Rocket Sprocket, by letting me eat my zd pate while I lounge in my heated bed! I have a good mom and she knows I didn't mean to lash out at her or Shady. Mom has also been trying to help Shady get over his fear of Rocket Sprocket and like me again.

Hope that Di chick stays away for the weekend. We're supposed to have rain, and rainy weather tends to bring out the worst of Di Mentia. By the way, mom is still betting that all this trouble in the Rocket Man's world is simply being caused by that Di chick and not her evil twin B. Rain u-kno-what.

Well, I feel another nap coming. Have a great weekend, everybody!

I was first in the kitchen Thursday evening ... mom caught me "circling the chuck wagon," as she always says. I was so hungry I even helped mom find the refrigerator. Mom picked me up and opened the giant fridge door. I helped her locate my canned food and baby food, both tucked away in a special spot, and I helped her locate and carry Shady's food to the food preparation spot, too.

My goodness ... was I ever hungry too! I had a hearty dish of ZD pate and beef baby food ... and I ate every morsel. My tummy is nice and full!

Well, time for preening, then beddie-bye time.

Thank you again for all your purrs! Mom says thanks too!

We luv you all!

Wow … this week certainly has been an eventful one for your humble old narrator, the Rocket Man. I can feel the Power of the Paw, no doubt!

My increased dealings with crazy Di Mentia (or is it her nasty twin, B. Rain Tumor? We’re not sure, yet) have practically vanished … overnight! I know it has something to do with all the loving support and powerful purrs from furs all across Catsterland!

I am sleeping better – and I haven’t wanted (or demanded) the heated bed for the last 48 hours.

I am happy to report, my endless and mindless wandering at night, banging of Rocket noggin repeatedly into walls, and my wild and nasty aggression toward Shady and my mom have stopped without the use of medicine; those problems or symptoms just stopped – as if someone turned off a switch inside my head! Mom says I am like my old Rocket Sprocket self. Mom is stunned, amazed and overjoyed! I am taking it all in stride. However, I remain a picky eater (I have to give mom something to worry about, hehehe).

Mom and my humble self believe all the purrs from all the furs and their people are the reason for my near-miraculous change. We extend a humongous THANK YOU to everyone!

I also have to extend a gigantic THANK YOU to the Catster diary lady for picking me as one of the Diary Picks of the Day for January 28. 2010! I am deeply humbled by the honor. Thank you to all my furiends – your outpouring of love helped me truly enjoy this special achievement, too!

Dearest friends, sisters and brothers,

My humble self had a great night's sleep thanks to my new herbal stuffed pillow placed on my stack of comfy old blankets. Zap for sixty seconds in the microwave, and one has the most toasty warm delight. Heated and cushy, my little cloud on earth emits a soft and comforting aroma perfect to soothe the creaky bones and troubled mind of your narrator, one very old kit.

Breakfast this delightfully sunny Southern California morn was a delicious pate mix of zd and beef baby food, warmed to perfection and served neatly in a shallow porcelain dish. I relished every last morsel and washed it down with a drink of fresh spring water.

Then it was time for morning stretches and a short period of exercise. No matter the age, one must keep one's body limber and fit!

Now I am off to nap for the afternoon. I heard meowmy say something about tonight's dinner: grilled salmon, long grain & wild rice and lightly blanched asparagus (fresh from the Farmer's Market) served with lemon butter. I will dream of this fine salmon dinner. And when I awake from my nap, I know a little dish of salmon (carefully dressed) will be served up and waiting, just for moi!

Soft purrs and gentle hugs,

Tonight is a good night, and I have not yet taken my little helper medicine.

It's good because meowmy roasted a chicken and served up some 'specially prepared chicken nibbles on a little plate -- two times tonight -- just for yours truly. Shady had a little nibble of chicken, mixed into his DM wet cat food. I, on the other hand, had mine straight. Just chicken nibbles and a little splash of broth. Mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm! I ate every bite and that made meowmy very happy!

Now I am back in bed, tucked in snug as a bug by my meowmy and my wonderful and loving Guardian Angels. Ahhh, it's good to be the Rocket Man.

Time for my prayers of thanks: Thank you to all my wonderful Catster furiends so much for the outpouring of love and concern and purrs for yours truly! That is just the type of medicine that helps me feel the best! I love you all! You are the best furiends a kit could ever have! I am humbly blessed a thousand times over.

Soft purrs and warm hugs,

Oh my furry brothers and sisters... as if my battle with Di Mentia isn't bad enough ...

Dr Martin ...

Oh my furry brothers and sisters... as if my battle with Di Mentia isn't bad enough ...

Dr Martin suggested that my sudden and wicked onset of hostility toward Shady and mom (still somewhat sporadic at this point) and my increased pacing, repeated bumping of my noggin into walls, and overall agitation are key indicators that your humble narrator might (note: might) be dealing with Di Mentia's evil twin sister, B. Rain Tumor.

Gosh, all this past week in SoCal I had to deal with rain outside, now yours truly might have to deal with Rain inside his head! What is up with that?! Can't an old kit catch a break?

Mom is not allowing any CATs, PETs or MRIs. Well, when you're as old and decrepit as I am, no sense wasting $ looking at the inner workings of my elderly noodle! Plus, I really don't want or need that kind of stress.

So my kind and gentle doctor prescribed 'mother's little helper' for this one very old kit. A low dose to be given up to 2x/day, when I need it.

With mom's love, Shady's understanding, a soothing lavender and chamomile pillow for my nap nest on the couch, the Feliway circulating inside the house, clean and hot blankets straight out of the dryer, and a little assist from 'MLH,' I will have the best time of my life and make the most of it.

Gotta go catch up on my beauty naps! Oh ... and no tears, 'k?

Oh, my furiends and sisfurs and brofurs...
As I think about poor Arnold P and his battle with those awful girls Dian Betes and her horrible, wicked sisters, I am battling another awful girl Di Mentia (probably a friend of Dian and her wicked gang). I wish this Di Mentia chick would go away and leave me alone. However Di just won't let me be. Di has seized control of my brain and makes me go on these time-travel trips to other dimensions. It's not fun, like traveling in a DeLorean. It's scary, like a Chucky movie or something out of Twilight Zone!

Yesterday afternoon, mom came home with Feliway and proceeded to treat the environment. Mom is looking for a natural way to help me deal with this Di chick. Well, mom noticed Feliway worked almost immediately on Shady, who was more mellow than before and then wanted to play more than before. Somehow, though, Di kept my brain from getting the message. The Rocket got nastier.

Di took complete control of your narrator's brain yesterday afternoon and evening and turned me-little-self into something like a hybrid Chucky Scissorhands. I have been gifted with quick response and action, and my gift proved completely intact once again. I lashed out swift and sharp ... repeatedly (and uncharacteristically) at mom and Shady. Poor Shady ... with all the thunder and lightning and hail we've been having this week, my behavior shift was the last thing he needed. Poor Shady tried to relax in front of the fireplace and I go Chucky on him. Poor mom, she's trying to hold me gently in a soft blanket, trying to give me kisses and hugs and talk me down ... and I swat her on the cheek (almost hitting her eye) and tried to bite her arm.

Oh, sisfurs and brofurs and furiends. What is a poor old kit to do? How can I make this Di Mentia leave me alone? I want my brain back!

This dementia stuff has me living in another dimension more frequently than mom would like. I spend my days sleeping mostly, then I wander the floor most late afternoons and evenings. I wander and pace, bumping into things. But I don't notice that I am doing this. See, when a dementia episode hits, I travel through time. However, I am not aware of those around me when I time travel.

I think I am traveling ahead in time, since I have to wander to explore my "new" surroundings. Unfortunately, while on this afternoon's time travel adventure, I bumped into Shady. We sniffed noses and while mom said I paused and seemed to recognize my brofur, I turned into a four-legged 'Chucky' doll. I scrunched up my face and lashed out at Shady. Spitting, hissing. Then I turned into 'Rocket Scissorpaws' and started swatting. It was ugly, or so she said! I dunno tho, I wasn't "there" to experience it.

Mom to the rescue ... of Shady, that is. I got my nose tapped by mom's finger and boy did she yell! Well, all that nose tapping and yelling caused a disruption of my space-time continuum. Next thing I know I was in mom's arms. I noticed she was trying to get me to calm down as my legs were swatting at anything and everything. And the hissing ... mom said I need a Tic-Tac. She also said I was a bad boy, like Chucky, but hey, I didn't know!

Mom called the v-e-t for advice. Thursday, she told me she's taking a trip to Petco to get some Feliway.

I feel another time shift happening!

Senior? High school? College? Huh? Oh, wait ... you mean ... oh, nooooooo!

Yep, it was time for a senior outing to the vet. Yours truly was commanded to appear at his six-month senior health checkup. Well, my day went from great to hellish in an instant! Shady took the cruise with me, to keep me company mostly. But that still didn't mitigate the fact that I was about to be poked and prodded.

Getting weighed wasn't so bad, except the scale felt a little icy to my warm pink toe pads. Then the new checkup girl left me standing on that wiggly giggly thing and performed the dreaded thermometer probe. Oh, my furiends, your humble narrator was so concerned by the less-than-humane treatment. I mean, how dare that girl shove that cold instrument into my nether region. And to leave me standing on a moving object nonetheless? I object!

Then my humble self was left to totter the room -- blind and cold-toed -- until the doctor wandered in. Oh boy, more poking and prodding, squeezing of the gut, and checking of the heart and lungs, mouth, ears and eyes (and I so wanted to tell this guy: dude, news flash, my eyes are blind, ya know).

Suddenly, mom GIVES the doctor permission to take me into the back for a ritual stabbing of needles into my precious skin. You think the vein in my neck would be enough, but no, they went for a couple of other veins in other areas too. I heard the techs utter something about my being tense (yeah, you'd be tense too if you were being stabbed by syringe needles) before they finally found the vein they were looking for, in my leg. *Glad you found it girls! And I am the one they call blind.*

Then the techs have the gall to bring me back to the checkup room with rubbing alcohol all over my fur. The nerve! Don't they know the hallways are chilly this time of year? Where's a blanket when I need one?

I climb back into the crate with Shady (my pal) and together we lay side by side for the brief ride home.

In the last six months, I have lost four pounds (yeah, I am an olde furt for sure) and three more teeth. Bright side, I get to enjoy nothing but canned food, spiked with baby food, and brought to me as I lounge on my tranquility blanket -- 4 times a day! Mmmmmmmm! Yum! And I am getting ultra-pampered by mom, who dug out the old electric heating pad, put it on low, and stashed it under my favorite blanket. Maybe mom feels guilty for taking me to the vet, but I can attest: it's good to be an olde furt -- I mean a senior -- after all.

Oh --- I almost furgot. The vet said something about dementia setting in. Heh? What? Oh, the heck with it. Can't remember what I was gonna say!

Not just any cheesecake either. Tuxedo cheesecake. Mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm.

I might not be a tuxedo kitty, but with my white gloves and shoes and my perfectly groomed vest, mom said I was THE choice to help in the kitchen today. We whipped up a beautiful tuxedo cheesecake. One-hundred percent homemade.

Specially seasoned cinnamon graham cracker bottom crust topped with four yummy cheesy cakey layers:

1. Vanilla cheesecake encrusted with fresh chopped pecans and teeny-tiny sweet and dark chocolate chips

2. Devilishly decadent chocolaty-chocolaty cheesecake infused with a rich Irish Cream liquor

3. Sinful ribbons of sweet, fresh raspberry puree (without the seeds)

4. Luscious white chocolate cheesecake spiked with warm and wonderful Amaretto (mmmm)

It’s in the oven as I write this, baking away. Thursday morning, the cake gets one more layer … chocolate ganache. Mmmmm, so golden!

Wishing every fur and family in Catsterland a very happy, safe and fun Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my mom, who takes great care of me, and all the furiends I made during my first year as a Catster.

Forks up!

Well, the eyes have had better days, that's for sure. I am now left to groping my way around the house, walking gingerly, bumping into walls, crashing into doors, missing my couch cushion. But I still find my way to the kitchen when the dinner bell rings!

Mom's been really, really busy and I have been bugging her like crazy to get my diary updated and all. So I am back now!

Today I had a special treat -- Shady (my newest brofur) gave me a kitty bath. I forgot how much I loved being groomed by another kitty's tongue!

Back to my nappie for now.

Shady will walk up to me and touch noses, rub chins, and do headbumps. He’s so soft, kind, gentle, and loving. He hangs close to me at night, and that makes me feel better, and sleep better too. I am going to have loads of fun with Shady!

I owe a ton of thank yous to Catsters for kind words, purrs, and thoughtful comments extended to me at my most difficult time. Everyfur, please know … your kindness at this special time means the world to me:

Callie Rose, TomTom, Miss Goldie and Handsome "Paws" – for the Rainbow Ribbon.
Lola – for the Power of the Paw and your words of comfort
Chrissy; Moozer, Punkin, Sealegs, Spot and family; King Henry; and Navin R Johnson-Davis for the beautiful rainbow stars.

To Mayhem; The Pharoah Loki; and Christopher; for your kind comments.

And I received a ton of pmails from many, many Catster furiends. Thank you for reaching out to me and my family.

To my dearest brofur, DustytheDogcat, for the beautiful emerald that matches your eyes. I miss you and hold you dear to my heart, always.

And of course, backing up to my birthday, I owe a few thank yous to:
Christopher – Thank you for the totally yummy cupcake.
Chef Rooster, The Pharoah Loki, Jasmine, The Count and all the Bryan Texas Kitties – Thank you for the party hat. I had fun wearing it!
Guido the Italian Kitty, Yolo, Baci, Simon, Chandler Ray, Lola, Ringo, Webster, and Dusty the Puppycat, and Wilson J Scooter for the fun American Flags and great wishes. I love hearing the American flag rustle in the breeze. Makes me proud.
Chrissy for the bouncy beach ball and the bright white baseball. Thank you so much!

Your furiend,

Hey, the cat that mom dragged in this past Sunday isn't so bad after all! Shady is sharp, smart, very gentle, and got the message fast that the Rocket Sprocket is the most senior kitty in the house, not to mention the Alpha Kitty too.

Last night, Shady walked by me and rubbed his head on my chin. I rubbed back. Mom then scooped me up and gave me tons of kisses and hugs for being nice to Shady.

Today, we ate breakfast together at the food court in mom's kitchen -- side by side. After breakfast today, I called out to Shady Marrrrouuuuu? Marrrrouuuuuu? ... I am ready to try to play.

That made my mom very happy, as I am 17 years old and don't play much ('cuz I can't see). Having Shady around is going to be lots of fun!

Purrs and head rubs,

This weekend was a tough one, with DustytheDogcat being called to the Bridge on Saturday. We had a quiet Saturday evening at home, sitting on the couch, being held and spoiled rotten some more, and thinking about Dusty ... a lot. Losing a brofur to lymphoma is tough, that's for sure.

So on Sunday, my family leaves for a little while. I stayed home on the couch to catch up on my beauty rest. Then later in the afternoon, I hear this noise. What the heck was that? Sounds like a cat. What the ... ?

The sound got louder and then proceeded up to the third floor. I could hear it get into the tub. Ew ... what's that smell? Oh ... now I know why mom is taking that noise maker to the bathroom. For a bath. Good thing. Whatever it was, sure was stinky.

Things were quiet for a while, then I heard it again. And I could smell something different. Shampoo? Hmmm ... is Dusty back?

No, not Dusty. Wait. I know that sound now. OMG ... It's ... It's ... ANOTHER CAT??????

Gotta check this out. Yep, more fur. Not the Dogcat but someone new. Hisssssssss. Hisssssssss. I am the Alpha Kitty around here little dude, and don't you be forgetting that!

Well, here he is ... Shady!

I can't see him, but mom said he's really cute and his fur is so soft and fluffy. Right now, I am letting Shady know who's the Alpha Cat around here, and to leave my "Jackson Pollock" alone. But I am sure we'll make friends real soon. After all, Shady is my new brofur!

Thanks Dusty for bringing Shady and more fun into my life!! Love you bro!

Well, my short-lived shot at regained vision has vanished. Dr Martin warned me that it would. But I was happy to have better eyesight if only for a while. I got to see the fireworks, that's for sure! But mom has noticed that I am having old vision issues again, like crashing into walls, bumping into the dishwasher, missing the couch cushion when I go to jump up, walking into DustytheDogcat (who looks at me and says -- "Rocky, do you mind? I am laying here"), getting under foot in the kitchen. But I still manage to find the refrigerator. Once a refrigerator inspector, always a refrigerator inspector.

Mom has taken to spritzing water at me whenever I get behind her when she's at the kitchen sink. Hey, I can't help it if the kitchen sink is close to the refrigerator. I am just looking for tuna. And my snicky snacks, which are kept in the cabinet between the kitchen sink and the refrigerator. (Notice a theme here? Refrigerator! My favorite place! It's where the tuna is kept.)

Mom said I received some Rosettes. Thank you to:

Chrissy Whitesocks for the purrty kite. I had fun flying it!

Baci for the cute ladybug. I like ladybugs! Did you hear about the ladybug invasion in Colorado? Wish I could go see them!

Simon for the heart, and for being a great furiend!

Madison for the purrty heart. I hope you are feeling better.

Jerry for the bouncy beach ball. Hope you had fun at Disney World!

Guido, Yolo, and Baci for the American flag. I had fun in NYC! >^..^<

Simon for the American flag. Hope you enjoyed a great 4th of July celebration!

Chandler Ray for the American flag and for sharing my birthday too!

Cute Lola for the American flag and birthday wishes!

Chrissy Whitesocks for the beachy ball and birthday card.

Ringo, Webster, and Dusty the Puppycat for the American flag and birthday wishes.

Wilson J Scooter for the American flag and July 4th wishes. Thank you for inviting me to the pawty, too!

Chef Rooster, The Pharoah Loki, Jasmine, The Count, Redd Catt and all the Bryan Texas Kitties for the super-yummy cupcake. Chef Rooster, you sure can whip up some yummy treats!

The Catster Dude and Lady for the fun fireworks. I saw them! I had fun this 4th of July.

And a super-special THANK YOU to the wonderful portrait/poster artiste for my beautiful pawty pics. A thousand thank yous from the bottom of my heart, too! We loves you!

So I am back to being 100% blind but loving every minute with my big brother, the one home from college. He's been working at his summer job, so he's not around much the last 3 weeks. I sit on the middle cushion waiting for him to return at the end of the his workday (usually midnight). Sundays are the best, as he's home until 1 pm. I get to hang in his arms and get tons of brotherly loving! I will miss him when he goes back to college, but I try not to think about it.

Stay cool and safe this busy summer!

I had nibbled on my kibble (z/d) just before sharing some ice cream and potato chips with Dusty. I guess the boring z/d didn't mix with the yummy i/c and p/c.

Mom walks into the room, grumbles like Marge Simpson and asks "Okay boys. Who left a purresent? Rock-eeee?"

Um... blink, blink ... purresent? What purresent? It wasn't me! (blink, blink)

"Rocky? Have you been sneaking ice cream and potato chips from Dusty?" "Hmmmmm?" "Oh, Rocket Sprocket! You know better than to sneak food, you little stinker pot, you!"

Woooo, boy ... I have been very busy helping mom take care of my brofur DustytheDogcat. He's a big boy (close to twice my size) and he needs my help getting around, getting in and out of the litter box and his bed, and negotiating the stairs. Mom is pretty strict; she has the baby gate up to keep Dusty from going up the stairs on his own. She is afraid he will fall and hurt himself more. That's the last thing he needs right now.

Instead of dealing with crutches, I lay or sit near Dusty. When I hear him try to get up, I run over and offer my shoulder for extra support. I think he appreciates my help.

I am not supposed to have ice cream or potato chips because of my tummy problems, yet I love them just as much as Dusty does. So when mom isn't looking, Dusty sneaks me a couple of bites of chips and a lick or two of his sweet vanilla ice cream. Mmmm, mmmmm. They sure are good! Thank you, Dusty!

I was perched at the window in my meat-loafing position, just minding my own business, sniffing the cool afternoon air and listening to sounds of children playing and cars driving by and all of a sudden it happened! A birdie flew by the window and I saw it. I tracked it from left to right, and not because it was flapping its wings. It was soaring straight past my window, like a rocket. I saw it! I saw it! And meowmy is my witness, as she was standing at the window with me.

I hadn't seen a birdie since my anesthesia accident. I was so happy. I turned to meowmy and said "Meow! Meow! Meowmy! Meow." "Did you see that, meowmy? I saw a bird!" Then the birdie flew back and perched on the roof above and sang a pretty song. I looked up at the singing bird and joined it in song. Mew, mew, chirp-chirp.

Meowmy and I celebrated my continuing little vision miracle with more hugs and purrs and kisses on top of my head. Meowmy said that the bird was heaven-sent, a little gift from Grandmama to let me know she was fine and happy and watching over us. Thank you Grandmama! You made my day a purrfect one!

I can see! I can see! The vet confirmed it ... I just went to the vet for my medication checkup and ...

I can see! I can see! The vet confirmed it ... I just went to the vet for my medication checkup and blood work and the vet said that the prednisone he's been making me take to help control my IBD is helping my eyesight improve. My eyeballs have always worked (the vision center of the cerebral cortex was damaged). And the vet determined that my optic nerves have been slightly inflamed since my anesthesia accident, which compounded my vision problem. Thanks to the prednisone, I can definitely see light and the outline of objects. I was cruising all over the vet's exam room checking out all the stuff I couldn't see before, and my vet had a hard time catching me! I am so happy, now I don't crash into DustytheDogcat as much. That means I can go back to zooming around the house. And I will have even more fun than ever before with meatball madness!

The vet also said that I look and act just like a 4 year old kitty (which made him very happy), and not like some crotchety old cat. And my blood work confirms it, too! My little toes are all tingly about that! I am itching to dance! My vet said I need to enjoy and have fun, but not to overdo it.

And no, prednisone is not a fountain of youth for any cat -- it can be dangerous if not carefully monitored by a vet, by lotsa blood work on a regular basis, and by my meowmy on a daily basis. But for me, it's a tiny little miracle that I need to enjoy while I can ... and my meowmy and me are so happy about it! Hey meowmy ... let's crack open a can of tuna and celebrate! MMMMmmmm. I am licking my chops already!

------------- A note from Rocky's mom --------------
Rocky is still vision-impaired and considered blind. Rocky only sees changes in light (he is visually aware of image changes on the television again, well, actually the flat screen that he's never seen before) and outlines of shapes, objects, and the 50 steps in our house. Although he is cataract-free (many older cats develop cataracts), Rocky's vision improvement is expected to be temporary; he will return to near-complete blindness in the future due to the damage to the vision center of his brain and the inflammation of the optic nerves will most likely return ... because he cannot stay on prednisone forever. I monitor him daily for water consumption, urine output, food intake, and any spike or drop in glucose (long-term prednisone use can cause diabetes, and we want to try to avoid that).

So all you wonderful Catster oldsters and youngsters, please do not run to your vets and demand prednisone. It is a steroid designed for medical needs only; it can affect you badly if not used under a vet's prescribed care. It is not a miracle medication; but for Rocky, this medication has provided a temporary miracle. Meanwhile, Rocky is enjoying his bit of renewed vision while he can. Our vet was more than amazed at Rock's unexpected improvement in vision. We're esctati-cat!

I am the luckiest cat in the world. I ain't a'sposed to have tu-na cuz it upsets my tummy sometimes, but ... meowmy opened a can of the smelly stuff and whoo-wheee! It was a-calling me. Funny how tu-na makes my eyesight a little better. I zoomed my way to the kitchen in a NY minute! Blink, blink -- I poured on my spechule charme, and meowmy gave me some tasty tu-na. Oh, I was in heaven! Gimme tu-na any day; makes giving up catnip very easy!

Funny, my brofur DustytheDogcat hates tu-na. Silly Dogcat gags and then tries to bury it with the kitchen rug. It's a funny sight to see. Now how can any respectable cat gag and try to bury such tasty tu-na?!

Meowmy? Can I have more tu-na?

And I an easily wake up daddy an hour before he really has to wake up in the morning. What a great way to get special attention, just for little 'ol me!

I just don't understand why Meowmy and Daddy aren't as excited as I am about the twangy-thingies. I heard Daddy saying something about taking them off the wall.

Oh, Daddy, don't take the twangy-thingies off the wall! I really need them to help me find my way. (blink, blink ... aren't I cute? blink, blink ... I love you!)

I might be blind, but I sure do know how to entertain myself when meowmy is busy (or is it more like getting her attention? hehehe). Our cat-condo has these twangy-thingies mounted onto the wall area behind the doors. I can't see them, but I found some the other night, well, more like at 3 a.m.! They're great toys for a blind guy like me. They make great musical instruments too. Twaaaaang. Twaaaaang. Twaaaaang. Meowmy, isn't this fun? Blink. Blink. See how cute I am playing with these twangy-thingies? They always stay on the wall and don't ever roll under the couch! Woo hoo!

Hey DustytheDogcat ... you need to wake up in the middle of the night and try out these new toys. They're easy to find, lots of fun, and they seem to make meowmy get up and come find me too! C'mon Dusty, let's play!

Hey, ...

Meowmers! Cat hijacks meowmy's laptop; meow-mails messages to cat-tastic friends worldwide!

Hey, wait a minute! I didn't do anything wrong. I was being a big helper to meowmy today. While meowmy was upstairs talking with one of the invisible people who live in the ringing thing that's housed on the kitchen counter, I thought I would sit down at meowmy's lap-cat-top and help her get some work done. She left the lap-cat-top machine on and in meow-mail mode, so what the heck. I sent messages to my big human bro in college, meowmy's friends in the Midwest and the South, and a couple of potential business clients. Boy, won't they all be furprised when they see meow-mails from Rocket Sprocket?!

And you know how I know I didn't do anything wrong? When meowmy came back down to her home office with a fresh cup of coffee in hand, she saw me sitting proudly on her desk (next to the lap-cat-top, of course) and she laughed, picked me up, hugged and kissed me and let me sit on her lap-lap while she finished messages. I spent the rest of the afternoon just purrring and purrring.

Ha ha, Dusty! I got to use the computer all by my-furself today!

Meowmy? Do you have any more work for me? If you need any filing done, I have a fresh batch of sand in my sandbox! Just say the word ... !

Meowmy was headed up one of our flights of stairs (we have three levels in our cat-house), and as she rounded one of the landings in the semi-dark, I whizzed up the stairs right past her, tripped her up, and when she tried to avoid stepping on little 'ol me, it happened. SMACK-O! The big toe went right into the tile. Meowmy meowed so loud. I am so fur-sorry. Hey, I couldn't help it. I can't see where I am going. I rely on my whiskers to guide the way, but for meowing out loud, they ain't curb-feelers! I just figured meowmy was headed to the kitchen (which iz my all-time FLAVE-FUR-ITE room in the house) to make me something yummy to eat. I don't think she's too mad at me though. She picked me up, gave me tons of kisses, checked my little feets, tummy, tail, eyes and head to make sure I was OK. I have such a good meowmy. I am so fur-sorry, meowmy. Let me kiss it and make it better! Now Meowmy is walking funny. Oooo...the toe doesn't look so great either. Guess I gotta take meowmy to the doctor this week. Here, meowmy, want one of my snicky-snacks? They always make meeee feel better.

I have been napping like crazy this week. I have mom all confused, too; she sometimes thought this week that I was not feeling well. Actually, I am feeling just fine. I just felt like being quiet this week. Plus, being quiet means extra, extra, extra attention from mom! (Am I a stinker pot, or what?!) Today, has been rainy and cold, by SoCal standards. Mom took pity on me, broke out the heating pad and placed it under my blanket, making it a nice warm place to nap on.

So here are 7 things about me:

1. I only drink bottled water.

2. I will only drink bottled water from a human glass ... one of those smaller glasses that people make mixed drinks in.

3. I steal water, so don't ever leave your water glass on the coffee table unattended.

4. I sneak out of the house when no one is looking. One time, when I lived in Indiana, that got me into big trouble, as a very nasty thunderstorm suddenly blew through the area. Fortunately, my family noticed me frantically trying to get back in through the sliding door. Phew! That was a close one.

5. I like to patrol the garage while mom brings in the groceries or takes out the trash.

6. People who meet me can't believe I am blind, because I get around so well ... and I can easily find the dinner table, every time.

7. I love climbing into a laundry basket of clean bed linens -- fresh from the hot dryer. The heat feels so good on my old bonz.

I am happy because my mom let me outside for a few minutes to explore the front porch today, so I could soak up some warm California sunshine on my old bones. She even took down the kitten gate that keeps me safe in our front courtyard and took me for a walk to the mailbox. Mom kept me very safe -- held me tight in her arms so no one would hurt me.
