Happy Birthday America!!! I FINALLY can get on the catputer and pawmail a diary entry. Either mom is hogging the computer or Harriet is sleeping on it... sheesh! I hope all my furriends have a wonderful Independence Day today and get lots of yummy treats! Now, be careful and no playing with firecrackers or stuff cuz it can hurt our paws and burn our fur! But on to more important things... like cake and birthdays!

I had my 6th birthday on Sunday but we couldn't really celebrate it and I couldn't even get on Catster because that nasty storm Friday took away our power! Mom had promised me poached tilapia for dinner too! It was so hot and yucky out and we didn't get power for what seemed like an eternity. When we finally got our power back mom had to report to me that the birthday tilapia was spoiled and that she would have to buy some more and we'd have a big "Gotcha Day" celebration. I guess I'm okay with that since my Gotcha Day is later this month; however, she still owes me BIG TIME!

I want to thank all my furriends who sent me birthday gifties and wishes! You guys sure are the best! Thanks to Tate, Samoa, KittyPryde, Monster, and those SanFran guys Guido and Grazie! I sure do love my Catster pals! I'm gonna have to get mom to let me on the computer more often so I can write my diary entries...

Sheesh! Mom hasn't let me write in my diary in months! She's pathetic! Can't get good help around here! And, you know what she is? She's a grinch too! Yes! Mom is the GRINCH!

I got a present from one of my pals and mom put it up on a shelf so I can't open it up til Christmas Eve. How dare she! So this afternoon, I decided to put my plan into action whilst she was busy with baking cookies. Harriet was distracted watching mom bake so I had the living room to myself. There was my package, up on the shelf... just waiting for me to snatch it down! So, I jumped up on the base of the hutch and stood on a pile of catalogs and stretched up to reach that package. I had it in my paws! YES! Victory! Well, I swear mom boobytrapped that present! The pile of catalogs started to slide... I had a choice, release the present and save myself by jumping or suffer the consequences. Well, don't you know, just about this time mom sees me as she hears the catalogs start to fall on the floor... there I am hanging on to my present by my front paws, my back paws sliding out from beneath me! Oh the indignity of it all! Well, I wasn't letting go of the present! Mom said "Ozzy, you better jump while you can" but I refused to let go of my present. Sigh. I slid out with the pile of slippery catalogs and the present remained on the shelf while I sailed through the air. I regained my footing before I hit the ground but mom saw the whole thing. You know what she did then? She laughed at me! She's the Grinch, I tell ya, the Grinch! My present is still atop Mt. Crumpet or whatever it was called... and Harriet is like that stupid dog Max, just sitting there looking cute but being no help at all! Wait. Doesn't the Grinch's heart grow and he gives out the gifts? Hmmmmm, perhaps I'll give it another day and see if Mom Grinch thaws out and gives me my present!

Merry Christmas to all my pals!

Today is my 4th Gotcha Day! I like to think of my Gotcha Day as my Re-Birthday cuz it's the day I was "born" to my mom and my forever home! It's hard to believe I've been with mom for 4 whole years! Mom was looking through pictures she took my first few months here and she was full of "awwwwww" and "ohhhhhh" moments. My favorite memory of those first few weeks and months is mom's favorite too-- the first time I jumped up on the bed to be with mom! I think mom might have shed a tear and she didn't want to move for fear she'd scare me. Napping with mom is one of my favorite things to do and always will be!

I'm really purroud to share my Re-Birthday with the birthday of an infamous Catster kitty: Calvin. I wanna wish Calvin a Happy Birthday up at the Bridge!

Yesterday was my arbitrary birthday. Mom had to give the pet insurance people a birthdate for me; when I was adopted, the nice people told mom that I was about a year old so they made July 1st my "official" birthday. I'm not sure what my real birthday is but July 1st is just fine with me! I've been pondering which is more important: birthdays or Gotcha Days. I've arrived at my decision.

I know many of you will agree with me that Gotcha Days mean more to us than our birthdays. Sure, sure, sure... without a birthday we wouldn't have Gotcha Days. BUT without a Gotcha Day, some of us might not be here! I was lucky to be at a no-kill shelter but since they were over their cat capacity limit they had to find me a foster home-- furtunately, because I am an unusual kitty, they knew that I would be adopted to the right home after I recovered and relearned social manners. My Gotcha Day is my favorite day of the year! It's when mom came and said "he's mine!" and I was reborn. So, in a way, Gotcha Days are like re-birthdays. My Gotcha Day is coming up so I'm excited about that... mom will cry and tell me how I am her big boy and how much she loves me (mom's do that mushy stuff) and I will give her her favorite headbonks.

I want to thank all my pals who sent me presents and well-wishes for my birthday! Colette and family send me a bouncy ball, my best pals Oliver and Dewey sent me a chocolate cupcake, Hunter and his family sent me a chocolate cupcake, those crazy Tabbies O Trout Towne sent me a baseball, those Tomcat boys sent me a flag which I am proudly flying, the most gorgeous Samoa sent me a bouncy beach ball, Guido and Yolo sent me some fireworks, and the amazing Skipster and Riley sent me a beach ball! I love all my presents! Thanks everyone!

Samsara tagged me to play! Thanks for tagging me because I was feeling a tad left out that I'd not been tagged yet.

Here are the rules:
Name the 5 most annoying things your humans do, then tag 5 others to keep it going!

1- It really annoys me when mom does not feed me in the wee hours of the morning. I should be given fresh food whenever I am feeling peckish. Why do I have to wait until after 6am to be fed?

2- It really annoys me when mom chooses to watch tv or use the computer or pet Harriet instead of playing with me or giving me chin scratches.

3- It really annoys me that mom goes to work and leaves us alone. Why can't she stay home with us?

4- It really annoys me that mom brought my sisfur Harriet home one day without asking me if I wanted a sisfur. Sure, she's fun to chase and I even enjoy sharing a nap with her sometimes but mom should have asked me first!

5- It really really really annoys me that I am not allowed outside. I long to be outside chasing birds and small mammals!

I'd like to tag my pals Dewey, Chef Rooster, Greyson, Newman, and Gleek!

Thanks for reading my annoyances and hope you all have a great nap today!

It's the middle of winter and I've been thinking a lot between naps. I've been thinking my mom has been slacking in letting me post in my diary. I've been thinking I don't get enough snacks of chicken or tuna. I've been thinking my sister is a pain but she sure is fun to chase. I've been thinking I deserve more treats. I've been thinking too many of our furriends have been sick lately.

Well, it's time to nap and ponder a few more great thoughts. I'll keep you posted.

Tonight mom tried to give me a treat off her plate. I usually love treats off mom's plate: chicken, fish, cheese, etc. Well, tonight she tried to give me something which smelled interesting but looked like grey slimy pigeon guts. She said they were called "oysters" and were a special treat! Special treat? I looked at Harriet, she was just sitting there staring at it glistening on our treat spot; she wouldn't touch it. I extended a paw and it was all slimy and squishy. I looked at mom and inquired whether it might not be a sea cucumber instead. Mom said "Ozzy, these are oysters from the Chesapeake Bay; you can only eat them in months that have an R in them." Well mom, I don't care if December has an R, it still looks gross. You sure that R doesn't stand for retch? or revolting? I know it doesn't stand for roasted chicken, why couldn't you have made roasted chicken tonight mom? Oysters? Blech!

Mom bought a new nap blanket the other week. It's eggplant colored and is the softest blanket on the planet. When she bought it she thought that my sisfur Harriet and I might like it-- of course, since I am the man of the house I've taken it over. Mom has it on the bed and I love to lounge on it and contemplate. Don't tell anyone but I love to just stretch out on it and knead it til I fall asleep. When I do that mom always goes "awwwwwwwww" and says sweet things to me.

Well it's time for me to stretch out and take a nap on my blankie; oops, blanket!

I rule this territory from inside where it's warm and dry. The big orange and white kitty was sniffing outside my window, eating my grass, and then you know what it did? It sat and stared at me! I yowled at the top of my lungs and tried desperately to open the screen on the window so I could go out and show him who was the top cat in this neighborhood. Mom couldn't believe how big my tail got and how upset I was. Harriet just sat like a slug. Good thing these females have me to protect them!

Today I experimented with being a lap cat. Mom kept saying "oooh Ozzy" and I just looked at her. She said she's waited almost 3 1/2 years for me to become a lap cat. Here's how it happened:

Well, there was mom in the recliner (I let her borrow it sometimes) and I jumped up on the arm of the chair (I really wanted to nap in the chair you see) and so I just stepped onto mom and settled down in her lap. Took a bath there too. Then, I settled in for a little nap. Harriet was sitting on the floor watching me then she started swatting my tail and caught it a few times waking me up. Mom petted me and scratched me behind the ears and I fell back asleep. I think I might try being a lap cat again...

I know all the rest of my MCAW friends are going to be jealous when I show up at the mancat mansion with my new scratcher. I'm DOTD!" She gave me lots of loving and treats and I got to nap in the recliner today and tonight I got a Fancy Feast appetizer for an after dinner snack. Mom gave me a long scratching and then she brushed me. Ahhhh! That's the life of a DOTD!

I ask you man cats out there... aren't recliners for man cats? If your parent has a recliner isn't it meant for the man cats? Mom has a recliner and I really enjoy napping in it; there's a nice pillow in it and a light napping blanket over one of the arms. A perfect nap spot! So there I was in the purrfect nap spot, taking a nap and mom asked me to move! Can you believe that? She actually said "Ozzy, that's mom's chair; you can have the couch or the other chair but mom wants her chair" Well, I opened up one eye and stared at her then I closed that eye and went back to my nap. Mom ended up on the couch. Ummm, mom? Could you pass me the remote? "Big Cat Diaries" is on Animal Planet soon...

WORLD CAT DAY- Questionnaire

1) You know some people call us moody, stubborn, capricious or not willing to learn. what is your opinion about such cat prejudices?

Well, I believe that you just like to do things in your own time. You really are amazingly smart and I know that if you'd like to do something you will figure it out! You learned how to open up the cabinets; you know the sound of a popping can of Fancy Feast; you can sense when I need a little comfort time with you, my little "bud bud"; and, of course, you know exactly when we are having chicken for dinner!

2) Tell me: how do you remember our first day together in our home?

Awwwwwww, that first day!!! Oh, I don't know who was more scared-- you or me! I wanted you to like your new home so much! I remember being so anxious in the car ride home with you from the shelter and you meowed the whole way! I was afraid you were going to meow yourself into a heart attack! I sang to you making up songs and then I talked to you to calm you down; you poor dear, you meowed for 45 minutes straight! When we got home, I had everything all set up for you with lots of places for you to nap and scratch and do your litter business. You carefully came out of the carrier and walked around each room. I just watched you and talked to you softly as you explored. You found the food I set down and you found the litterbox then you found a place to hide. You barely came out for nearly a week but I knew you were okay because the food was disappearing and the litterbox was being used. You eventually batted your paw out at the toys I sent in your direction and then you came out for some cat treats. The first time you came into the bedroom and jumped up on the bed nearly broke my heart as I was so glad my scared lil boy had decided this was home!

3) You have taught me so much – but what did you learn from me?

I've learned patience pays off! Remember when you backed away from me petting you and now you will let me scratch you and pet you for ages! I've also forgotten what it was like before you came to live here! Sadly, I've learned with both you and your "sister" Harriet that purebred kitties who aren't show quality are sometimes dumped. On a happier note, you've reminded me that cats do give unconditional love!

4) Have you ever wished – even for a second – that i was someone else?

Well, when you were younger and you decided biting my ankles was the way to wake me up didn't earn you many points! I am glad you got past that and learned there are better ways to wake mommy up! I wouldn't trade you for any other kitty! You are mom's big boy and I adore you! I hope you are just as happy with me as your mom!

5) What if we'd change bodies for a day?

Oh Ozzy! I don't think you would like that-- well, you'd like the ability to open your own cans of food and being able to shop for chicken!

6)Could you name those of my habits you would not want to miss?

Well as much as I complain about you waking me up early in the morning for breakfast, I actually like our little time when you give me those headbutts and knead me to wake me up! I love when you talk to the birds in your chattering voice! I also love when you play hide and seek with Harriet! The one habit that brings tears to my eyes is when you sit or lie next to me and take your paw and put it over my arm and drag my arm to you so I can scratch your chin or just so you can rest your head on it! Breaks my heart every time!

7) Let's imagine we could go back in time – how would you estimate the probability that you would adopt me again?

100%!!! Without a doubt I'd adopt you again!

8) Just one last question: which big cats do you like best?

Do I have to pick just one? Tigers are gorgeous but you know I'm also a sucker for spots!

It is an honor to be tagged by the royal Pharoah Loki. Like Dewey says, when Pharoah tags you- you must obey!

1. Do you ever wake your parent up in the night?
Well, isn't it the job of a cat to wake their mom up in the middle of the night or the very early morning? I jump on mom and walk on her a bit; I know she just loves that! Then I find her hand and headbutt it; she pets me and as soon as she stops I headbutt her again! We play this game for awhile then I get down to the business of getting her up!

2. Do you ever tear up things?
My current project is a sheet of cardboard in the area off the kitchen. I have a secondary shredding art project in the middle of the living room which used to be the center of my turbo scratcher. I have a few other specialties as well but mom doesn't want me to mention them.

3. What is your favorite treat?
Chicken. I love chicken! Real chicken, not cat food chicken!

4. Can you fetch something when asked to do so?
Nope, no fetching here. Why should I fetch when mom will do it for me?

5. Have you ever lived any place other than where you live now?
Well, I don't remember my first home at all but I still have a bit of a memory of the foster home I lived in with the nice lady and all the dogs and her office at the shelter.

Now, my turn to tag some of my furriends! I am going to tag

Yes, today is my arbitrary birthday. The nice people at Calvert Animal Welfare League that rescued me gave me an arbitrary birthday of July 1st since I was about a year old when I was in good enough shape to be put up for adoption. I don't remember my fur mom but I'm sure she did the best she could; I don't remember my first family but I know they didn't do the best they could; I don't know how many fur siblings I had or even if I had any. But all that is okay. Today is my birthday and I've been celebrating since about 4:45am! Mom didn't toss me off the bed when I told her the birds were singing and it was time for my birthday early breakfast. She said "Happy Birthday" and got up to feed me! Wow! What a great start to my birthday! Later, I got two toys (a white "fur fun" which looks like Harriet's tail if she had one and a Pawbreaker), some treats, and mom sang to me. She also put a paperbag down on the floor so I could play in that with my pawbreaker. It's not even 10am and my day is great so far! I saw mom take some chicken out of the freezer so that means chicken for dinner!!!

I will let you know what else happens today... it's going to be a great day!

^paw and meowies!

---------------
I had a great afternoon! I had a FancyFeast Appetizer for my noonish snack. I took a nap in mom's recliner for a few hours. The highlight of my afternoon was playing in a cardboard box that mom put some catnip in... cardboard and catnip! What's not to love? I gave chase to Harriet and mom couldn't tell me to stop cuz it's my birthday! Mom cooked some chicken for dinner and I know I will get a nice piece! Mmmmmm chicken! It's too bad birthdays don't come more often!

^paw,
ozzy

p.s. Thanks for all the birthday wishes and gifts! =^..^=

My good pal Oliver tagged me to play so I've put on my thinking cap and here are my answers. I know you have been waiting for them. MOL!

1. What time do you go to to bed?
I'm usually settled down in my hammock or one of my sleeping spots by 9pm; after my evening bath and a bit of tv I will fall asleep.

2. What is your favorite gift you have recieved and why?
This is a tough one. I'd have to say my favorite gift of all time was a big box that the tv came in; it took me ages to completely shred that box! Otherwise, my favorite toy is "Da Bird".

3. Whats your favourite way to wake up and whats the first thing you do?
Well, the best way to wake up is to the sound of a can of food being opened up and put in your dish. Most days I wake up when the birds start chirping then I make sure mom is awake by jumping on her and letting her know it's breakfast time.

4.What would you call yourself if you could choose your own name?
Hmmmm, I do like my name ... I'll have to get back with you on this.

5. What was the last thing you ate that you really shouldnt of ?
Well, I would have to say it was the chicken nuggets from Chik-fil-a that I had on Tuesday.

6.What are you afraid of?
*whispers* not having mom and having to fend for myself on the streets again ... *in my manly voice* I'm not fond of the weed whacker that the groundskeeper uses outside my window.

7.Do you have brothers and sisters?
Nobody knows about my first family or any littermates. I share my home with Harriet.

8.What is your motto in life?
Who loves ya baby?

9. Would you like to be famous? Why or why not?
You mean I'm not already famous?

10. What cartoon or comic book character best describes you?
Garfield, I admire his love of food and his cattitude. Garfield has Odie, I have Harriet. MOL!

11. What super-power would you most like to have, and why?
I would like to have the power to open up my own cans of food so I don't have to wait for mom.

12. If you could play sports, what you you play and why?
I excel at birdwatching. I am positive I would excel at hunting.

I am going to tag any of my MCAW friends who want to play!

There was a wasp in the house and I was chasing it all over, meowing at the top of my lungs. I was trying so hard to get it and had it cornered by the big window in the bedroom. Then, that evil mom of mine said "ohhh Ozzy, I'm afraid you'll get stung" and she swatted it. Squished it even. Then, to add insult to injury, she flushed it. Wouldn't even let me play with it. Pffft.

Mom is taking a few days off to do some spring baking and cleaning in preparation for Easter. I haven't seen her clean yet but there is a brand new mop in the living room waiting to come out of the package. I tried to help her out by shredding the paper to give her a little hint. It's nice when mom bakes. That means she's in the kitchen a lot and when she's in the kitchen I have a better chance of getting a treat or even an extra meal. I have to admit that the best thing about having mom home is our afternoon nap. Mom settles down on the bed with her laptop and catches up on some email and lets us do important Catster things like check on all our friends. After I do that, I settle down next to mom for a nice long nap. Today mom got out the furminator and gave me a nice brushing. It felt royally wonderful and I wouldn't let her stop. She then switched over to a nice scratching under the chin and behind my ears... glorious! I fell asleep with my head in her hand whilst she was still giving me scratches. When I woke up later, mom was napping with me and my head was still in her hand. Ahhhh, I love lazy days!

Happy Easter to all my pals! Hope the Easter Bunny gives ya lots of treats!

I got to smell the outside for the first time in months. There were these delicious-looking birds on the balcony picking up bird seed and eating from the feeder.
Mom said I was super bad. Me! Can you imagine? I like to think of it as enjoying a challenge. Occasionally, I do enjoy tipping over our food bowls... I paw at them and at the placemat until I tip them over. In an effort to try to stop me from doing this, Mom got these non-tip dishes for our water and for the bowl of dry food. I saw that as a challenge. After dinner tonight mom went to scoop our litterboxes and shower. Harriet went to watch mom shower (she's weird that way). I saw this as my moment to try to see if the untippable lived up to their name. They didn't. Mom and Harriet came back into the kitchen and saw the dry food bowl upside down with food all over. I was working on the water bowl when they disrupted me but I did manage to splash quite a bit out. Perhaps I should be a product tester for truth-in-labelling?

That truly fine female Samoa has named me as one of her Dreamboats. Wow! I am so honored to be chosen and become part of a group of such debonaire mancats. Now before you ladies start making plans for becoming Mrs. Ozzy you need to know that I follow the rules set down by the most manly and wise of mancats ever to grace Catster, namely Calvin. Calvin's rule was no dating before 21; I am allowed to have friendgirls but no girlfriends. My Valentine this year was mom. She's always the number one female in my life.

To celebrate my nomination to Samoa's list Mom gave me treats and a lovely long scratching. I had to share the honor of having a special Catster day with my sister Harriet who was a DDP selection. I don't think we've ever had such a big Catster day in this house!

Well, I suppose I must go clean my spots and smooth my fur after mom's long scratching. I have to look my best now!

Why do girl cats get so excited about Valentine's Day? Who is this Cupid dude and why does he go around shooting mancats with arrows so they will fall for girl cats? I think that some girl cat organization must be paying this Cupid dude to put mancats under their spell. I'm going to nap with one eye open just in case Cupid tries to shoot me with one of those arrows. I believe my sister Harriet has paid Cupid to zap one of my good pals. I'm not gonna say his name cuz I don't want to embarrass him but he knows who he is; watch out dude!!!

I suggest all you mancats sleep lightly the next couple days.

Mom dared to say I was badness personified and I had created a mess. I prefer to think of myself as an artist and my work as three-dimensional soft sculpture. It's all mom's fault anyway; she left the 4-pack of toilet paper sitting in the dining room for several days. I was really good and ignored it all that time. Sometime between 6am and 7am this morning I began feeling very artistic. I think I was inspired by some of my pals here on Catster. All's I can say is I thought it was a beautiful modern art piece representing the struggle and oppression of cats against dogs and those who do not understand us-- or perhaps it represented a flock of birds in flight-- or perhaps it was my interpretation of snow-- whichever, mom did NOT find it at all beautiful. She picked up my beautifully arranged shreddings and the remaining half-shredded rolls and shoved them in the linen closet on her way out the door to work. I believe I heard her mutter "we'll talk about this later mister badness personified."

Wait til she sees what I have planned next...

I've been reading and hearing a lot about Tiki from many of my pals here on Catster. My buddies Oliver and Dewey sent me a can for Christmas and now I understand what the fuss is all about. I tormented mom demanding she provide more Tiki. Mom looked in 3 different pet stores for it but, alas, no Tiki was to be found in our area. Finally, because she couldn't bear to hear me complain anymore, she decided to look on Amazon. There it was! Tiki!!! Mom ordered me a variety pack of the seafood and it arrived tonight. I think I'm in love with the UPS man for bringing me Tiki...

Well, they are MY purresents after all. Mom had no business putting the "extras" away in the box to be doled out to us later. They have yet to make a box that will keep me out. Mom went away again after Christmas to visit our Auntie Beth and our human and fur cousins. She came home very late at night and didn't really see how I had redistributed the purresents. This morning mom walked out and saw that I had done a lovely job decorating for New Year's with the glittery tissue paper. It's quite festive if I do say so myself. Harriet helped with that and made sure that a good bit of it went under the dining room table. We probably could have gotten away with it if she hadn't left some pink fuzzy toy with dangly bits in the middle of the floor and if I hadn't left the pouch of treats in the hallway. Otherwise, I'm sure mom woulda just thought she knocked the box over with her bags when she came in late. Mom didn't dare get mad at us cuz she was feeling guilty leaving us! Ha! Guilt, it does a cat good!

Happy New Year to all my furriends!

Wow, we woke mom up early so she could see all the snow on the ground already! Mom was not happy to see it like we were because she was supposed to go to work today. I took charge and handed her the phone and said "Mom, call out and stay home with us today!" She said, "but Ozzy, mommy has to work so she can keep you kitties in the spoiled style in which you have become accustomed." I said "Mom, we'd rather have you home with us all day today and you can use some of your built-up purrsonal time." So, of course, mom listened to reason and so she's staying home with us to watch the snow. Mom watched the weather man on tv and heard it's gonna be two feet of snow! Wow! that's a whole lotta snow... I hope all outside kitties were let inside last night... it's too cold, windy, and snowy out there!

Think I'll help mom finish her cookie baking today and see if I can help her wrap gifts too...

My furriend Chef Rooster tagged me for a Santa tag game. He's a cool cat and I enjoy reading his diary entries. I think I'd like to grab my best buds Oliver and Dewey and hang out in his kitchen with him tasting some yummy dishes he's created... it would be a great time!

1.Do you believe in Santa Paws? Why? /Why not?!
Of course I believe! My mom told me that growing up "Sandy Claws" would leave her a special gift under the tree, mom is silly! MOL!

2. Have you been naughty or nice? Please explain yourself!
I've been nice of course but don't ask my sisfur Harriet cuz she'll tell you I've been naughty but I know she's the one who knocks mom's Afurcan Violets off the plant stand. Is it possible for a kitty to be naughty? I don't think so.

3. What would you like Santa Paws to bring you? Why?
Well, I'd like a new "Da Bird Cat Catcher Mouse Refill" and a new "Da Bird Fur Fun Refill" for my favorite toy. I'd like a new Alpine Swiss Mountain scratching post too cuz I ummm shredded the cardboard stand that holds up the scratchy bits... NO! I was not naughty... that cardboard begged to be shredded.

4. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? Why?
Deck the Paws is a good one. Mom sings us a silly one "wee fish ewe a mare egrets moose, wee fish ewe a mare egrets moose, wee fish ewe a mare egrets moose panda hippo gnu deer" MOL!

5. What is your favorite Christmas movie? Why?
A Christmas Story. I love when one of the Bumpes' hound dogs gets his ear shut in the door!

I'm going to tag:

My good buddy Oliver is playing in the "Gittin' to Know Yer Pals" tag game so I thought I'd play along. Oliver has such a way with words so I thought I'd copy his questions just as he wrote them in his diary. Since I am one of his good pals, I speak fluent Oliver.

1. Watt be da color uv mi collar?
Mom has tried to get me to wear a collar. I own a blue one with a tag with my name. I won't wear it... the only collar I'll wear is my Calvin Collar cuz it is special... Knead on Calvin!

2. What kindah foods do I eats?
I prefer Fancy Feast wet food, I'm partial to the ones in the blue cans. I also eat Harriet's food.

7. Wen be mi birsfsday?
The adoption people picked July 1 as my birthday; we celebrate that and my adoption day July 19.

10. Duz I hopes awl mi pals put dis in dare diarees?
I have to agree with Oliver "I shur duz iffin dat watt dey wants to do. I luvs learnin' new stuffs about mi pals."

Any of you who want to play go ahead and write about yourself! I look forward to reading all about you.

My good pal and buddy Oliver tagged me for Thanksgiving tag. I like Oliver a lot. He and his brother Dewey are my best furriends. I've taken a few minutes to reflect on 5 things I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving.

1- Mom. I'm really thankful for mom. She found me on Petfinders.com and drove a long way to meet me and it was love at first sight. I'm also thankful for the nice people at Calvert Animal Welfare League who took me in even though their shelter was full.
2- My sisfur Harriet. I like to chase her and I also like to nap with her. She keeps me from being bored and she's pretty nice too.
3- Food. Need I say more? Oh, fresh water too. Oh, and the frequent snack treat.
4- Soft places to sleep and nap with air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.
5- Good furriends!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my pals!

I am going to tag the following kitties (sorry if I tag you and you've already been tagged)

First, I want to wish all you kitties a Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!

It's been a roller coaster week. Mom's was away all week taking care of our grandpurrs. While she was away a catsitter was here; she was a nice gal and I came out and said hello to her. She tried to play with me but I just stared at her from my cave under the dining room table. I have all sorts of things I've dragged into my cave. It's my mancat cave. I have some of mom's shoes, a few toys, 2 bags of cat treats, a paper bag, more toys, some of mom's mail and lots of other things under there. I liked the catsitter and told mom she could come by anytime. Harriet hid from her everyday; she's a scaredy cat!

While mom was away everybody's best furriend Calvin went to the Rainbow Bridge. Mom came home and cried and cried when she read about it. She still cries when she reads the entries. I stayed next to mom all night and held her paw. We got our Calvin Collars in the mail while mom was gone. I haven't been able to bring myself to wear mine yet but I'll put up a picture as soon as I can because I made a purromise to Calvin. Godspeed Calvin! I'm going to miss you!

2- Treats!!! I expect to be receiving lots of treats... otherwise there will be more tricks!

3- Scurrying squirrels outside the window... they are fun to watch!

Today mom decided to take some pictures of us for Halloween. Sheesh mom! So, she thought it would be "cute" if each of us wore a big witches hat. The only thing I have to say is at least she didn't make me wear a costume... course I think mom knows she woulda been pretty scratched up trying to get one on me!

On other fronts, mom has decided that I am a big enough boy and she isn't getting up in the middle of the night anymore to feed me. What? How dare she deny me! I showed her! She left me some dry food to snack on (I don't really like dry food) and I ate some and left her a nice little regurgitated pile of dry food hack up in front of her bedroom door two nights in a row! Now we'll see if she gets the message!

I woke mom up a few minutes after midnight to let her know it was her birthday. She thanked me and I reminded her again at about 3:15am when I told her it was time for me to start celebrating by having a snack. Mom got our surprise present at work. I arranged for her furriend to give her a card from us that meow'd happy birthday. She showed it to us when she got home and told us how much she loved it. Mom gave us all a nice birthday dinner. I had one of those superdooper delicious Fancy Feast Appetizers. Yummmmmers. We let mom play with us after dinner and we kinda played along chasing the toy on the end of the stick (for some reason that's mom's favorite toy). It makes her feel good when we play with her and chase it. Ya gotta keep mom's happy... after all, they provide the food and clean the litter!

Mom went away for a few days this week. When she came home my sister Harriet and I gave her the sad face looks. After a can of food and a deeelicious Fancy Feast Appetizer I tweaked the guilt chain a little more. I gave her the pitiful meow. Ohhh mom can't stand the pity meow. It melts her like a snowball on an August day. Mom said "ooooh sweetie, mommy got you purrresents" heeheehee.

You see mom had seen the yellow banana that my friends Oliver and Dewey play with in their video. Mom found a nice yellow banana for me (although Harriet thinks it's hers). I think I could learn to like bananas if they are all like this one! Mom dug deeper in the box and then pulled out a new mouse attachment for my daBird stick. Harriet also thought that was for her but I set her straight. I know mom has a few other things in that box so I'll give her more pity meows later. She's such a pushover!

I received a box in the mail yesterday. It was a free sample of the new Fancy Feast Appetizer. Mom brought the mail in and I immediately started pawing at the box. I even helped her get the plastic wrapping off so I could start chewing at the cardboard to get to the delectable treat in the plastic container inside. Mom was amazed that I could tell there was something worthwhile in that box... well, she's not a cat so she doesn't know about our amazing abilities. Mom peeled back the foil top (oh, for opposable thumbs) and set the dish down. Deeeeeeeeeeelisssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhh it was soooo good!!! My silly sister Harriet had no idea and walked away from the little bit mom put down in front of her! Pffft! More for me!!! Mom was amazed that I didn't even beg for some of her dinner of teriyaki chicken -- I was too involved with that deeeeeliiiiiish white meat chicken appetizer thing. More more more!!! I don't care if it says "one serving per day per adult cat" I want more!!!

My sisfur Harriet wrote that I like to cuddle and snuggle with mom. I'd like to set the record straight. When I reach my paw out to mom and grab her hand it's because I want to reassure her that I am the man of the house and will protect her. When I jump up on her bed and stretch out it's because I'm making sure that there aren't things in the bed that will hurt her. When I sit next to her and watch tv with her it's to make sure she doesn't get scared by anything on tv. When I allow her to scratch me and pet me and brush me it's because I know it makes her happy. Yes. I do all these things not because I like to cuddle with mom; I do it because I'm the man of the house and it's my job.

I had quite the busy day yesterday being the man of the house. So busy I didn't even get to nap. The central air unit in my kingdom (mom's condo) had to be replaced and I was needed to supervise. I also had to protect mom and Harriet. The workmen were greatly appreciative of my supervisory skills. I checked out the quality of their tarps with my claws and found them to be quite resilient. I also found that the cardboard boxes of tools and parts were quite sturdy and had good corners for scratching my chin. I made sure the guys didn't slack off by taking any breaks... if I couldn't nap, neither could they! I complimented their work and sat under the vent to cool off when they were done! Mom gave me a special treat of some chicken for being her big strong man of the house! I don't know what she'd do without me!

My sisfur's name is Harriet. She provides me with great amusement and something to chase when I'm bored. Mom took a picture of me being a kind big brother and swatting at a bug on her face (heeheehee, mom is so gullible). She said "what a good boy for looking after her." yeah yeah yeah. You all know what I was about to do, just don't tell mom! Mom put a new picture on Harriet's page of me giving her a bath! Sheesh mom! Don't let people know we really get along much of the time! I've taught Harriet how to wake mom up at 4:30 in the morning. Mom wasn't too pleased when Harriet gave her little high-pitched meoou (she still can't meow quite right but I'm teaching her) in mom's face this morning. Today is mom's day off and she really wanted to sleep. Ha! I whispurred to Harriet "go wake up mom and we can both have breakfast early" So, off she went whilst I laid sleeping all innocent in the chair. Mom got up and fed us... we have her so well-trained! Well, Harriet is a slow eater so I finished most of my breakfast and walked over to her dish and ate most of hers too. She was still hungry so.... a few hours later she jumped back on mom and gave her plaintive little "meeeou" repeatedly until mom got up. Guess what? Mom put down dry food for a snack but we both just looked at her and said "we know ya got the good stuff mom, put it down... please" Harriet did her little dance and gave the pity face and asked her "Did Ozzy eat your breakfast Harriet sweetie?" She mewed "yes" and mom gave in and gave Harriet another little can. Ha! mine!!! I went and pushed her away so mom took pity on her and set down another dish. Ahhh, sisfurs... they are good for getting me more food!

MOL! I have mom very well-trained. Usually I wake her up at least once during the night for a snack or for some attention. I usually prefer to wake her up about two hours after she has fallen asleep and then again around 4 or 4:30 in the morning. She tries to ignore me but I persist. Eventually, mom will either pet me or feed me. She's so easily trained. Last night I had mom panicked! I didn't come wake her up in the middle of the night nor did I come wake her up in the early morning. Heeheehee! Mom was so worried that I was sick or had gotten myself in trouble someplace in our home that she got up out of bed to look for me at 4:45am!!! Silly mom!!! I was sitting on the top perch of my cat tree watching the birds wake up and thinking how delicious they would be with a side of bacon. I just stared at mom with my "you silly human" look and she said "Ozzy, you had mommy worried because you didn't wake me up." Pffft! Mom!!! First you complain that I wake you up and now you complain that I didn't wake you up???

The time has gone by so fast! I can't believe what a scaredy cat I was when she brought me home. Now, I'm in charge and mom fulfills my every command. She got me that little ball of white fur without a tail called Harriet last year; I've even gotten used to her. I can barely remember the time when I was hungry and living by foraging for stuff in a dumpster behind a grocery store or alongside a road. I remember the nice foster mom who took good care of me and worked at the rescue league. She decided that mom was the best person to adopt me! Boy was she right!!! I love my mom and have a great life. I only wish I could go outside and prowl for big game. Sigh.

Mom says today is my arbitrary birthday. Since the nice people who rescued me didn't know when my exact birthday was they said July 1 was my birthday. So today is my arbitrary birthday! I started the day with begging for a midnight snack around 12:30am; I reminded mom that since it is my birthday I should get what I want. This didn't work so I made sure that at 5:15am she really got up for our breakfast. Ha! Well, ya know, when ya eat breakfast at 5am snack time comes pretty early so I begged for my morning snack treat at 9am. Ha! Since mom is off today I'm gonna do this all day long!!! Turn my nose up at what she gives me and then ask for something else. Since it's my birthday she HAS to give in! I wonder what purresent she got me? She promised to make me some chicken for my dinner tonight. Ah, birthdays, they are the best!

Finally mom has posted a picture of my cat tree on my page. Sheesh mom it only took you like a month! As you can see, my tree has many levels. I really enjoy the next to top level the most because it affords me a great view of my little kingdom and a nice view out the balcony. I'm eye to eye with those birdies that come to the feeder. Now, if only I could figure out a way to get beyond the door. My good pals Oliver and Dewey sent us a suggestion that mom get us a multi-level outside crate/playpen. I think that's a great idea, mom got me a cage last year (see my pic of me in the cage) but it's too small to do anything except pace back and forth and sleep. Purrhaps if I could jump up and down and explore I'd like it better. Oh, mom could put a bird feeder inside the cage so the birdies would have to come in (heeheehee). I'd promise to be really kind to them.

Wow! What a day as a DDP! I got lots of special treats from my catster pals. My good buddies Oliver and Dewey sent me a pinwheel (it's really cool). Baby G sent me a blue ribbon and wrote me a wonderful pawmail. Karma Kitty and family (Charlie Clarence, Punkin Pooh, and Bobbi Boi) sent me a forever Planet Earth! I received a pawsome pmail from Gibbs & Cash and their angels. Thank you guys so much! I've never felt so loved!

Mom let me be number one kitty all day long (duh mom, I'm always number one). I got to nap with mom on the bed without Harriet sneaking in and hogging space or mom. Later mom put together my brand new 80" tall cat tree with lots of perches and scratchy posts and a place to hide. It came in a nice heavy duty box which I really like. Mom said I could have the box for 2 weeks but then she has to get rid of it. I better start shredding it soon!

I did something new yesterday. Many of you cats already do this but it was new for me. It nearly brought mom to tears (she's such a wimp). Mom was sitting in her chair in the living room (the only piece of furniture we let her have) watching the news. I calmly walked over to the chair, jumped up on the arm and then I carefully stepped onto her lap and sat down. I've never sat in a lap before; it was very comfortable and soft. Mom reached out and stroked me and scratched me behind my ears and under my chin. Oh now nice it was!!! I may have to try this lapcat thing again!

Mom wondered why I jumped on top of the door. Silly Mom! Because it's there of course! Why did Hillary climb Everest? Because it's there! Mom says that the devil made me do it. She says I need to be exorcised ... ummm, mom? that would be exercised! now, get out Harriet's tail and we'll do that instead!

I enjoy making mom wonder about me. Why not jump on top of the door? I wanted to paw at the ceiling (actually I was being forced to clean cobwebs in the corners, kitty slave labor-- just kidding mom). So there I was, walking back and forth on top of the door, meowing and reaching up to the ceiling. Mom got real upset cuz she was worried I couldn't get down safely (duh mom, I'm a cat, I land on 4 paws). Mom tried to reach up to grab me but I just held my ground (errr door). Harriet just laid on the bed watching me like some stuffed animal. Eventually, just to appease mom, I jumped from the top of the door to the dresser-- an impressive leap of about 4 1/2 feet down and 5 feet forward and a bit to the right. I had the vectors all calculated. Well, after that, I watched out the window for a bit but got bored again so I went back to the closet door and leaped up there. (I made sure mom doesn't know what path I took to get there.) This time mom didn't get as upset and let me enjoy my victory.

Too bad I didn't have a little flag to plant at the top of the door.

I, King Ozzy the Polka-Dotted Wonder Kitty, love cardboard boxes. I like big boxes, small boxes, tall boxes, short boxes, thick boxes, thin boxes, long boxes, and even itsy bitsy boxes. I like to climb on boxes, chew my boxes, shred my boxes with my claws, and sleep in/on/under my boxes. Boxes are good for many things. Mom knows all this. What do you think mom did today? She de-boxed the house! Mom took away all my boxes to the trash room! She left me with one small box (I think she forgot that one). and my favorite box which I sit on to be close to mom in her chair. I'm so mad at mom! Why would she do that? I've been collecting those boxes for months and months! I had one of those boxes for over a year! Now I know the UPS man brought some boxes the other day but mom hasn't opened them up yet. She better let me start my new box collection with those or she'll find I've started shredding other stuff like furniture or her leg!

Sigh. Think I'll go chase Harriet ... it'll be easier to catch her as there are no boxes for her to hide in anymore.

Mom decided we needed a furminator. I don't know why she decided that; after all, we have several brushes. Mom saw that pile of fur Hazel Lucy's mom gathered after furminating poor Hazel Lucy. She looked at Harriet and me and said "kids, mommy is gonna get you a furminator." So yesterday was my first furminating session. It wasn't so bad; I liked it better than the slicker brush she uses on me. Mom got a pile of fur the size of a small mouse off me. She said since it was springtime I didn't need all that extra fur anyway. Ummm, mom? if you are going to get that fur off me you best turn up the heat and close the window so I can stay warm. Seriously, being furminated wasn't so bad and it will probably make my baths shorter (and less hairy).

Wonder if mom will try to furminate the Easter Bunny? I like Easter, mmmm, rabbit! No no no, I'm not going to catch a rabbit (although there is one that lives outside that we see sometimes, I'd like to chase him). I know mom will give us Easter Baskets but not with that plastic grass. She's been growing special kitty grass for us on the plant stand. Harriet has knocked most of mom's violets off the stand so mom figured she just better put kitty plants there. Mom can put some of our kitty grass in the baskets and then some new toys and treats!

Hoppy Easter!

Harriet is the other cat that occupies my kingdom. Mom got her almost a year ago as a kitten. Mom thought I was bored and needed another kitty to make me happy. Obviously Mom didn't know it was just spring fever that made me meow and meow. So, now there's Harriet. She's okay most of the time; I like to chase her around the house and I can steal her food without much fuss. She eats the same thing every day for each meal. She's not an adventurous eater like I am but I always know what is in her bowl so if I don't like what mom gave me I know where I can get something I tolerate. Harriet is fun to chase, she doesn't run as fast as I do and she has short little legs so I usually catch her. Don't feel sorry for her though, she gets me back. Just last night she came dashing through one of the tunnels and pounced on me and kept on going. Sheesh! I was attempting to clean myself. The most annoying thing about Harriet is that she expects me to groom her. Just because she has mom trained to brush her two or three times a day doesn't mean I am going to groom her as well. Doesn't she remember that I am King? She should be grooming me! Then there's naptime. I like napping with mom; just mom and me, like old times. Today was mom's day off and I'm napping with her; everything is wonderful and who jumps up on the bed? That tail-less wonder Harriet, of course! She dared to interrupt my nap with mom! I chased her off the bed and down the hall but that woke me up and I decided to have a snack. By the time I got back to the bed there was Harriet in my spot next to mom. I settled for the windowseat.

That's life around here with Harriet!

Mom gave me my St. Pawtrick's Day name. It goes well with my identity crisis. I was wondering if I am really an Ocicat. My veee-eeee-teeee thinks I am a Bengal. What am I? The nice people at the animal welfare place that rescued me and the vee-eee-teee there determined I was an Ocicat. But after my veee-eeee-teee Dr. Nicky said she thought I was a Bengal, Mom let me do a stroll of Bengal kitties here on Catster. I found so many kitties that look exactly like me! But then we did an Ocicat stroll and I found many kitties that look exactly like me! But if both of them look exactly like me, what am I? Mom says I'm King Ozzy McSpotted. Since my true breeding is unknown I guess I'll always be wondering. Maybe one of you Catsters can tell me? Mom says she loves me and it doesn't matter.

Spring is in the air and I've been begging to go outside. Harriet and I have been watching the birdies at the feeder. Today was especially entertaining cuz the squirrels were chasing one another. I climbed the screen door to get out so I could show those squirrels who is boss! I am!!! King Ozzy McSpotted!!!

It snowed yesterday and this morning. I spent a lot of time on the window seat watching the snow come down. It looked like Harriet's fur just falling from the sky. The grass is all covered up and so are the trees. It's purrty but I don't think I'd like to play in it. Mom brought some snow in on her boots. It was really cold!

I have mom worried lately because I'm restless and meowing lots and lots. Oh, I'm fine. It's just spring fever. I really want to go outside, well, maybe not in the snow. I climbed up the sliding screen door last week. I couldn't get it open though. Mom says I have to stay inside. She told me she was gonna put me in that big cage again next time I wanted to go outside. We will see!

Yawn!!! Boy I am tired... I spent the day assisting mom with her taxes. I read the tax forms and did the math and let mom type it into the computer. Good news! With my catculations mom is gonna get a refund. I've given her my bill for helping her so that should make it all even; I'll take my pay in food and toys. Harriet was confused by all of the numbers so she just slept on the top of the printer. We are enjoying lazy winter days just sleeping and watching the birds and squirrels that come on to the balcony. My favorite sleeping spot is mom's bed on the quilt my nana made for me... oops, that's not very king-like. Ummm, on my royal robes; yes, that's much better. I hope all you kitties are nice and warm and comfy.

I've had an occasional tummy upset the past two weeks. I have been better since mom bought that Purina ProPlan wet food that I like to eat. Still, my tummy occasional bothers me so I make sure I barf on a nice obvious spot, like mom's bed, her shoes, or the middle of the bedroom rug. Gotta teach mom to give the king the best! So today mom fixed a turkey breast. It smelled sooooo good cooking. Mom pulled some off and cut it up and put it in my bowl. Pffft, I'll show her! I sniffed it and walked away from it. I want to eat off your plate mom! Heeheehee. It tastes much better off mom's plate so of course mom always gives in when I show her my big eyes and place my paw on her arm and give her a headbutt. Yummmmmy! Turkey!

Why is food always better off mom's plate?

I thought purrhaps I'd make some resolutions fur the new year. Furst, I resolve to be a tad nicer to Harriet that no-tail kitty that resides here in my kingdom. Harriet is a nice kitty (I won't tell her that cuz I don't want her to get a complex) and she is fun to chase. Second, I resolve not to bite mom on the ankle to wake her up fur my midnight snack. Seems that hasn't worked too well in getting me my snacks as mom has a reflex action of kicking when I bite her there. I resolve to find a new way of waking mom up at night. Third, I resolve to nap more. I need strength for my Harriet chases so I also resolve to eat more of my food. Napping and eating... yup, more of both of those. I hope mom has resolved to getting me that new food I liked... Purina ProPlan... yummy! I also hope mom resolved to nap with me more; I love napping with mom!!!

Mom's been neglecting our diaries lately. Bad mom! She wouldn't let us use the computer because it was acting funny. I think it's Harriet's fault. Harriet likes walking on the keyboard and gets her fur in the keys. Today she decided to sit on the computer and shut it down! Mom just shook her head and said "Harriettttttttttttt!" I chased Harriet down and told her not to do it anymore. I need the computer to keep in touch with my pals and, of course, my loyal subjects.

There are lots of boxes in the house this week. Mom opens the door and she gets a box almost every day! As you know, I love boxes. Mom says they are purresents for my aunties, uncles, nana, pop-pop, and cousins. She won't tell me what is in there so I will have to open them up a bit... I know my nana won't mind if I chew and claw her box. Nana loves me, she sent me a pile of purresents! Mom says I can't open them yet and that I have to share some of them with Harriet. Pfffft! I don't want to share. The boxes are all wrapped in purrty paper. Mom told Nana she'd let us unwrap them ourselves! I can't wait!!!

I'm feeling much better this week. Mom has been giving me this yucky medicine twice a day. She purromises that we are almost done with the medicine and the vee eee teee lady won't have to come back unless I get sick again. I didn't like being sick. First of all, I did not feel like a king. Second, Harriet was running all over and getting into my things and doing things I usually do (like investigating stuff). I didn't even feel well enough to look out the window. I had to lie on the bed and watch Harriet look out the window. Third, I didn't want to eat much. Fourth, the vee eee teee took my temperature you know where. Finally, the worst thing about being sick is taking medicine. Ack!

It's my sister Harriet's birthday today. My purresent to her will be a game of tag and a wrestling match (heeheehee). You can tell I'm feeling better.

I haven't been feeling well lately and have just been kinda lying about and not eating much ... haven't even felt like chasing Harriet or playing with DaBird. Mom called Dr. Nicki who makes housecalls. Dr. Nicki came and saw me today. She said I was such a good boy and was gonna feel better soon. Dr. Nicki gave me some fluids cuz I have a fever and haven't been eating much. She also took some of my blood for testing (I know I have smart blood so that should be an easy test to pass). I didn't like it when she poked and prodded my tummy. Sigh. She gave me a shot and told mom she'd know more tomorrow when the tests come back. I'm just gonna try to get better by napping the rest of the day. I know mom's really worried about me but with Dr. Nicki's help I'll feel better soon.

Mom knows her exact date of birth cuz the rescue and adoption people had all the records since she was born at a manx breeder kitten mill. Nobody knows the exact date or circumstances of my birth. It's just an estimate from the really nice people from the place that rescued me. Since, I'm king I declare that everyday should be my birthday! That means more purresents and food for me! Well, I'll let Harriet have her birthday; she's all excited about it. We've been looking fur her purresent but haven't found it yet. There was one remaining door I hadn't pawed open in our house but I finally got it open! Wow!!! what a room of stuff to explore. So many clothes and boxes and things! There was a big noise when the ironing board fell over. (Harriet did it and got really scared.) I'm sure I'll have all that stuff on shelves on the floor in no time!
Last week mom went to North Carolina and came back with unfamiliar fur on her and kitty smells. She told me about our fur cousins. I have 4 fur cousins (if you include "white cat" that lives outside and adopted them). Mom tells me they aren't nearly as smart as I am cuz they live with guinea pigs and a lizard and a fish tank and they haven't gotten into any of them! How silly! They even sleep on top of their cages! Can you believe that? If I lived there, I would push the top off that big guinea pig cage and have me some fun and a snack! That little lizard would be a fun thing to toss in the air and to leave on mom's bed (heeheehee). I think even my dumb blonde lil sis Harriet woulda figured out a way to get into those cages. Maybe mom can get us a fish tank so I can have some fresh fishies for dinner I can even pick out my own fish!

Sheesh Mom, remember I need to chat with my furriends and keep track of world events on the computer. So, now that I have the computer I want to remind you that as King Ozzy the Polka-Dotted Wonder Kitty there is no need to re-elect me next month. I am King for Life. I have reasserted myself with Harriet the tailless white fluff ball who lives in my kingdom. I've decided that almost 6 months of her crowding me in on my food dish was enough. I now eat first and push her away from her food dish when I want what she has-- or, when I just want to show her who is King. I've also reclaimed the bed. I get to sleep with mom! Me! I was here first! I still let her on the bed; however, I get first choice of sleeping spot. Ah, life is good again in my kingdom!

Well Autumn has arrived at my kingdom. This means mom will soon close the window and I won't be able to hear the birds chirping or the squirrels chattering. There was a squirrel on my balcony for a whole hour the other day. He was digging in mom's flower boxes. Purrhaps he was burying his nuts for the winter. I hope so, that way I'll get to watch him again. Mom won't let me out there to get him no matter how much I meow or command her. Mean mom! She went away last week and left me in charge for 52 whole hours! I admit I enjoyed being in charge but I did miss mom. She's the only one here who can open a can of food. Harriet doesn't have thumbs either so she can't help me out. Mom left us lots of dry food and water and plumped up our pillows and blankies so we would have comfortable places to sleep. She gave me the remote and put on Animal Planet so we would have something to watch in case the birdies flew away.
I heard mom talking to Nana. Mom is leaving tomorrow to visit Nana and Pop-pop. That means I'm in charge! Yup, not only am I King but I'm in charge cuz I'm the man of the house. Look out Harriet! Heeheehee, she won't know what to do without mom. Worse thing about mom going away overnight is that we have to eat dry food. Yech! Now, if only I could figure out a way to break out of here I could get that nice chipmunk that lives on the balcony. Purrhaps I'll just use the computer and order some chicken for delivery. I can always blame Harriet. Wish me luck!

The days are getting shorter and the nights cooler. This means those lazy days of summer are going away. It's been a purrty quiet summer here, with the exception of that white tailless furball Harriet joining my kingdom. She does provide me with entertainment and gives me something to chase around the place. I think mom is spoiling her. Doesn't mom know she's only supposed to spoil me? Mom has a hard time keeping up with the two of us sometimes. She has lifted the litterbox lid on me twice lately! The indigity of it all! Pfffft! There I was sitting there doing my business and all of a sudden daylight with mom standing there with the litter scoop. Sheesh. And, of course, Harriet had to come see and stare at me whilst I sat there and tried to recover what little dignity I had left. I got Harriet back... I kept her out of the living room for a few days... heeheehee... I hid in my mystery triangle so she couldn't see me and lept out at her whenever she tried to walk by to get to mom. Ha!

Sheesh! Can't a king even sit on his throne anymore? There I was, peacefully sitting on my throne (my booda dome throne) in the throne room when all of a sudden What? Light? sheesh mom! Mom had lifted the top off my throne whilst I was there doing my throne room business. Sheesh. How humiliating! I just sat and looked at her, I mean what's a king to do? Can't I even get peace and quiet on the throne? There was mom, bag and scooper in her hand. She did apologize but sheesh! It was pawtiful! Harriet ran down the hall to see what was going on and she also saw me sitting there. Ummm, excuse me but I'm trying to do my kingly business here! Finally mom left the room and Harriet followed her (probably looking fur a treat) and I was able to resume my duties. I'm gonna have to put a lock on my throne room door.

Sheesh, can't a king even nap without someone messing up the order of the unifurse? I was taking my lovely afternoon nap and mom messed things up. Well, she says she was trying to clean up but she really messed things up. My current shredding box project was taken from the bedroom. I suspect she put it in the big green bag with Harriet's stinky cat litter. And mom vacuumed up all the shreddings too! Sheesh, I like cardboard shreddings under my feet, not carpet! Not only did mom mess up my bedroom unifurse, she got out the vacuum and got up my patch of catnip in the living room. Grrrr, why would she do that? She tried to bribe me with a new toy and a new box. I'm not falling fur that. Although, it is a nice fishie stuffed with catnip. Harriet has tried to steal it already but it's almost as big as she is! Pfffft! it's mine! The new box is small, too small to sleep in; I'll have it shredded within a week.

Now, she's the amigo of the week in the 3 amigos group. Hey! I belong to that group! I didn't vote fur her! Pfffft. And, she tried to take my new "Da Bird" toy that mom bought for me! Mom, tell me again why you brought her into my kingdom? To keep me company? Well, I do enjoy chasing her and she does some silly things sometimes. She put one on my site where I've got my paw over Harriet and we are sitting in the window together. Makes it look like I like her or something like that! Sheesh Mom! You are giving people the idea that we get along! Have you forgotten that I am King Ozzy the Polka-Dotted Wonder Kitty? Have you forgotten that Harriet is just here for my amusement as my court jester? Sheesh Mom! Why don't you put one up where I'm chasing her or something like that? Or, why don't you show one where I'm being good and she's being a pest? Like when she steals my food, my toys, my bed, or my favorite window seat?
Wow! I've been adopted for a whole year! It's my annifursary with mom. What a year it's been too! I went from being a homeless guy to being the king of my own castle. I've learned all about things like the wonders of catnip, the magic of a laser pointer, the comfort of my own blankie, the enjoyment of a good chin scratch, and the love of a human mom. I hardly remember those first days when I hid under the couch and wondered at all the sights, smells, and sounds of my new kingdom. Mom was just some human who talked real nice and put down super delicious food and tried to coax me out to play with toys. I remember the first time I jumped on the bed and discovered how soft it was and mom didn't make me jump off; she even put a pillow and blankie on it for me! I remember the first time I let her give me a good all over scratch and I enjoyed it so much I fell asleep! I do love a good scratch! Mom gave me one today along with a new toy and some catnip! Thanks mom!!! Happy annifursary to you too!

mmmmm Mom got me some fresh catnip. I love it! She opened it up and I reached my paw right in for a pawful. It was some high quality catnip, befitting a king (of course), and just a little went a long way. I'll have to find where she put it so I can get more when I want it... now, where did mom hide it? I'd ask Harriet but then I might have to share it. She's been hogging mom lately so I've finally decided to assert myself and let her know who is top cat around here. She thinks twice about jumping on the bed now if I'm there with mom. Heeheehee. As it should be. After all, I am king ozzy the polkadot wonder kitty.

I heard mom telling a friend that she was worried about me cuz lately I've been keeping a low profile. I guess I had a bit of the summertime blues. Harriet has been romping about and is always getting attention from mom. I know mom loves me but sometimes a guy needs a little alone time. This week I let mom pet me and brush me and I even came out to play. Silly Harriet tried to steal my toy again but I managed to get it back. We've both been really finicky about food lately and mom is so well-trained that she'll open something up or fix something til we eat. I admit that I trained mom well over the last year. If the king isn't happy, mom isn't happy. Heeheehee. Mom, I'm feeling like poached boneless skinless chicken breast for dinner today so you better start cooking! Better yet, let me out on the balcony so I can catch that chipmunk that hangs out there; he's nice and pudgy. Mmmm, fresh chipmunk with a side of bird... oh I do wish I could go outside! That would cure my summertime blues!

Meowies everyone! Today is the day that the nice animal shelter people arbitrarily picked as my birthday. I started the day by waking mom up at 2am with a pounce onto her chest and a big meow in her face. Midnight snack time for the birthday boy! She gave me something Harriet doesn't like so I didn't have to share. Pawsome mom! Can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings! Mom says we are gonna celebrate big time the day that she brought me home. That's coming up real soon! I've had a wild ride so far in my young life. I don't remember the circumstances of my birth nor do I have much of a memory of my furry mom. I haven't been able to discuss much of my first year of life as it brings back bad memories. I'll probably require a visit to the psssssycatric place to deal with hissssues. But that is all in the past! I am now King Ozzy the Polka-Dotted Wonder Kitty! My kingdom is a nice cozy place that is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I have a servant (mom) and a court jester (Harriet). My evfurry wish is fulfilled. I even have a girlfurriend (Princess PusPus) but she lives far away in Pawstralia. I have many furriends and life is good.

Some of you hissstory buffs might remember the Battle of the Bulge. Well, I'm going to tell you about the Battle of the Bed. First, let me start by telling you I won the Battle of the Bed. Mom has been sick with a bad cold and has been sleeping a lot in bed. Being King Ozzy the Polka-Dotted Wonder Kitty (and mom's big boy), I've been watching over her. This means I lie next to mom and make her happy and keep the germs away. I also shred her used tissues. I'm very good at that. Now, Harriet thought she could come up on the bed and take care of mom. Thus began the Battle of the Bed. I chased her off a few times cuz I'm in charge of protecting mom. That tail-less little furball purrsisted and jumped back up and even sat on mom's chest and face. Is she trying to smother mom? So, I shooed her off the bed again. Just me and mom; just like it should be and just like it was in those good old days before the white fluff moved in and turned my world upside down.

The days are really long and it's been warm outside. That means it's summer. Mom is trying to grow plants on the balcony. She goes out to water them; one of these days I'm going to sneak out there with her. A small step in my furreedom. I'll get Harriet to distract mom while I make my break. Mom is more worried that Harriet will sneak out so she won't notice me (she trusts me). Heehee. We have had big thunderstorms around here lately; I was mom's big strong boy and stayed by her side to protect her. Harriet got scared and ran away. What a scaredy cat! Mom was so grateful that I stayed to protect her that she gave me some special treats and lots of loving. Hmm, maybe I don't want to escape after all, but Princess PusPus needs me to keep her warm during the long Pawstralian winter. Oh, I know! I'll get mom to bring Princess Pus Pus here for the summer!

Mom says I'm becoming a good big brother to Harriet. Well, I like to think of myself as a benevolent ruler of this domain; I am allowing Harriet to make herself at home only at my discretion. I think there may be a use for her. Someone (I'm going to point my paw at Harriet) knocked one of mom's plants off the plant stand. Someone (again pointing my paw at Harriet) got into the vanity cabinet and pulled out the contents. Someone (once again pointing my paw) knocked over the water dish in the kitchen. Yes, I do believe I have a use for Harriet. Scapecat.

Shhhh don't tell her I like that, after all, I'm King Ozzy the Polka Dotted Wonder Kitty. I have standards to uphold. Harriet and I have been getting along pretty well this week. I really enjoy playing tag and "hide and go seek" with her. I can run so much faster than her so she never catches me when we play tag. I really got her good the other day. We were playing tag and I was hiding under a big piece of brown wrapping paper. I snuck down the hall, keeping under the paper towards where she was looking. She didn't notice the paper moving down the hall (what a ditz!) and I got within pouncing distance. POUNCE! Boy she was scared! She went mrow! and jumped. Heeheehee! That was fun.

Sheesh, mom isn't paying as much attention to me as she used to since she brought home that bundle of fur called Harriet. I don't know who to blame so I'll blame both of them. Mom and I had the purrfect routine down. I waited for her by the door around the time she got home so she could rub my tummy and I could sniff her shoes and get fed (I like sniffing mom's shoes when she takes them off). After I was given my royal dinner, I'd tell mom all about my day whilst she ate her dinner (and I'd beg fur some of her chicken or fish if that was dinner). Then we'd play chase the feather and watch tv. I'd fall asleep on her bed by her feet and wake her up for some petting a couple times. Each morning, I'd wake mom up when the birds got up so I could be fed and we'd start the day all over again. It was a great routine. I had mom soooo well trained, she did everything I wanted her to do! I miss those days; I miss being the only love of mom's life. She still pets me and feeds me and tries to get me to play with her. Mom tells me she loves me best and I am the only guy for her. Sigh. Its' just different. Bad Mom! You messed up my life and now things aren't purrfect. I don't even feel like being bad anymore. Maybe my Nana will take pity on me! Nana, tell mom she has to pay more attention to me!

Well, the little white thing without a tail that mom calls Harriet is still here. I'm told she is here to stay. She's certainly made herself at home... with my stuff. I admit it's been an adjustment, but, like mom's good boy should-- I've purrsevered and we are getting along. I even groomed Harriet a bit today; although I believe she should be grooming me cuz I'm the King. That made mom smile, course right after that I chased Harriet down the hallway and through the house knocking over a plant. Mom, that's what you wanted, right? For us to play together? Heeheehee. Mom can't blame one of us when it's both of us making the mess or when she can't figure out which one of us did something wrong. Mealtime is still a pain cuz Harriet tries to sneak into my bowl when she has her own bowl. I've been a bit worried that Harriet was taking over everything including Mom but Mom told me she loves me best and that I will always be her number one. That's right, I'm number one.
I swear I was just trying to help! Mom found her favorite bath towel in my litterbox. She thinks I dragged it in there cuz I was mad at her for evicting me out of the bedroom. I thought she should be awake to keep me company but she thought she should be sleeping at 3am. Sheesh mom! I'm the king! King's don't get sent out of the bedroom. So, when mom woke up there was her towel in my litterbox. I really was just trying to help clean. Now mom told me she's getting me a furiend to keep me company in the middle of the night. She even came home smelling like other cats yesterday! What am I to do? Will I have to share my toys? My litterbox? My window seat? My couch? My junk mail pile? My plant stand? My blankie? My majority portion of mom's bed? I suppose having a furiend would be good; I could use someone to blame things on. I suppose it would be grrrreat having someone to rough and tumble with and to play thundering paws. Mom says she'll get someone really nice that I'll like. I don't know... it'll take some getting used to, after all, I am the King!

or should that be "Meow Day"? Mom took an extra day off this week to pamper me (as I so deserve). I observed her straightening up my kingdom and adding more plants to the balcony garden. I even went out in the cage again (I still don't like it but I'll figure out a way to escape soon enough). There were lots of birds at the bird feeder so I showed off my chattering skills. Mom says I sound just like a bird when I do that; well, duh mom, us cats figured out ages ago how to do bird calls.

I want to send a special message to my purrfriend Princess Pus Pus! I love your new pictures! They are pawsome! Sigh. I long to be with you so we can frolic in your garden and snuggle in your new house.

Mom tried to put me in a cage today. Mean mom! She bought this cage (I saw the label, it was fur dogs!) and put it on the balcony. She thought she could tempt me into it by putting one of my blankies in there covered with catnip. Ha! Well, I wasn't going to volunteer to go inside of it. I didn't care if it did have catnip in it. So mom picked me up; sigh, there went my dignity. She put me inside this cage and told me I could enjoy the outside that way. Pffffft! I didn't like it much and tried to find the escape hatch. I almost found it too. I showed mom my displeasure and ran back inside. I tried to leap over the cage to get to the outside but mom blocked my way. Grrrrr. After that, mom shut the screen door and I showed her my climbing skills. I climbed right up that screen and hung there 6 feet off the ground; I want out! Please mom!
Mom told me she brought me something and has arranged for live entertainment. She bought a bird feeder for the balcony. She went outside to hang it up and I nearly escaped out the door behind her! Drats! Foiled again in my attempt to gain my furedom. She put her foot in the way and pushed me back. I was only a whisker away from wrestling out of her grasp and making a dash fur it. Phooey. I'll try again when she goes out to fix my live entertainment (heeheehee, don't tell her). Doesn't she know I'm trying to escape to Pawstralia to be with my beloved Princess Pus Pus? Sigh.

I was so irritated by my foiled escape attempt that I started training for the Decatalon which is part of the summer Olympics. I practiced the high jump, broad jump, cardboard shredding, begging, and the ironpaw (pawing open the door to forbidden areas). Later I'll practice the midnight meow, the early morning pounce, and everyone's favorite, the purrathon.

Mom says Apurrril showers will bring May flowers. The only thing I know about flowers is from the dried ones Mom used to have in a vase thing on the end table. They smelled really purrty and they looked even better when I scattered their petals all over the floor. So purrrty, all those petals on the floor. I wanted to give them to my girlfurrend Princess Pus Pus. She lives really really far away in Pawstralia. You can see her profile here on Catster. Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs Princess Pus Pus!

Well remember I told ya Mom put a collar on me? Well, I wore it for about 10 hours befur I had to have it removed cuz I was working it off my head. I hated it! Mean Mom! So I woke Mom up at about 2:30 in the morning one day by pouncing on her to tell her I didn't like the collar and was taking it off. She felt sorry for me and took it off. Ha! Unfurtunately, today Mom has one less Afurcan Violet. It was soooo tempting, she had just watered them and the dirt smelled so good and the plant was so green and the leaves so soft and furry. Sigh. I'm sorry Mom, I really am and I promise to leave the rest of them alone. Fur punishment mom put a collar on me, I heard her talking to someone about ways to get me to wear my collar again (I hate collars). Mom's afuraid I'll get out and so even though I have a microchip she thinks a collar with a tag is a good idea. I hate this collar. It messes up my fur. Sigh. Mom says I have all the symptoms of "Spring Fever" cuz I have been running around a lot when she comes home and I've been meowing a lot while sitting on the plant stand or at the balcony door or even just walking around. Sigh, who can help but meow? When I'm looking outside I'm telling all the birds and squirrels that I'm the King and they better watch out. Sheesh, moms should know those things. Mom says that my Pop-pop wants to borrow me to assist him in some big game hunting in his garage! That would be awesome! She was making bunnies (not the fur kind, the cookie kind) and I helped her by knocking the icing sugar off the table. Well, I knew she was gonna need it so I decided to open the box for her. Pfft! I got this stuff all over me! Mom was laughing at me (mean mean mom) and she tried to brush it off but it just got further into my fur. Mom got a wet washcloth and tried to chase me down with it. Mom! I don't want a bath! Pfffffffft! Well, needless to say I'm not gonna help her bake anymore. Things got better later when a box came to the door and it was for me! Yay! Mom said Peter Cottontail had hopped down the bunny trail early to bring me a purrresent cuz he saw what a good kitty I was trying to help make treats. I got a new toy and I like it; of course, I like the box it came in too. Maybe getting a new toy was worth getting a lil sponge bath.

The Lepurrchan did it, honestly! Mom said I was the one who knocked over the trash in the bathroom but I know I didn't do it, the lepurrrchan did! What a bad lepurrchan! I know all you other cats know that on St. Patrick's day the lepurrchans do mischief to get us cats back for helping St. Patrick get rid of the snakes. Well, it all goes back to an orange kitty named Seamus O'Tabby who was a known Catolic sympathizer in ancient Ireland. Patrick came to Ireland to teach religion and he wanted to prove stuff so Seamus O'Tabby said he'd round up the kitties to help get rid of those pesky snakes. Well, they had lots of fun chasing all those snakes out of Ireland and St. Patrick was really grateful and gave the kitties lots of treats. Did you know that instead of a shamrock the original symbol of St. Patrick was catnip? The Lepurrchans weren't so happy with it all and they blamed us kitties. So anyway, Mom!!! The Lepurrchan Did It!

I'm tired! I helped mom with her taxes today. I don't really know much about taxes but I sure was good at helping mom. She had lots of papers and I do love paper! I made sure they didn't fall off the desk and even kept the ones on the floor from moving anywhere. We used the computer and I was the one who showed mom how to properly use the keyboard! With 4 paws I am much better and faster at hitting the keys; she can't sit on the keyboard either-- boy, us kitties are sure lucky cuz we are extra good at keyboarding. Well, after I did mom's taxes (she says she'll buy me a present with the refund cuz I was so helpful) I had to unwind a bit. Fortunately, mom put down some new catnip on my favorite rollaround spot. Ah, the tiring life we lead. Think I'll take a nap now.

Sigh. Mom said I was bad. I'm not bad, I can't be cuz I'm the king. Remember I told ya mom got me a new catnip plant at PetSmart? Well, she had it on the plant table with all her other plants and well, ya know, a cat's gotta do what a cat's gotta do. She got out that horrible thing that makes all that noise and got up the dirt that I strategically placed on the carpet so I could roll around in it and nap. Mean mom. Not fair! That was my present! She got me another present too yesterday, this two-level house with windows I can peek out of and doors to enter and exit. It's made of cardboard and have I told you how much I love cardboard? OMG, cardboard! I love it! (oops, that wasn't very kingly of me there to express emotion). Well the best thing about cardboard is that you can shred it and it makes lovely piles of shreddings on the floor. It's better than any scratching post or pad. I don't think mom is happy that I'm paying more attention to the cardboard box that the house came in than I am to the house itself. Somehow I have to keep her from throwing out my old favorite box from the tv-- perhaps I'll just nap on it today-- after I shred the house.

Wow! I don't really know what to write here but mom said I could have my own blog where I could write about stuff. I guess I'll start by just telling you about my day today. It's mom's day off so I made sure to wake her up early so we could spend more time together. I even woke her up before that noisy thing (I usually do, guess I'm gifted that way). Well after giving me breakfast she tried to go back to bed -- ha! not gonna happen on my watch. We played for a bit then she turned on the computer and I took my first nap of the day. Well, before I knew it she was walking in the door with a bag from the pet store and mumbling something about "a friend" for me. What? doesn't she know I have 47 friends here? What do I need another friend for? Well, I sniffed mom good and smelled strange kitty smells but then I found there was a live catnip plant in the bag from the pet store so, well, ya know, I do love live catnip plants. mmmmm. Oh, where was I? Well mom didn't have another kitty with her but she has been talking about adopting me a friend. I'm not sure I want a friend, I'd have to share my food and my toys and I definitely don't wanna share chin scratching time. Sigh. What to do? I might enjoy chasing someone and if I could teach a friend to wait on me it might be okay. Just maybe. A king does need his court after all.
