This is the first year since I was a kitten that I have had no emergency trips to the vet for bladder or blockage problems. Yippee!! Guess the CD food and no fish has done the trick. I am one happy little black cat!

Woohoo! I've been off the baytril for a week now( after 6 weeks of having it pushed down my throat) and my urine specimen was clean! No crystals and my ph was down from 7.5 to 7.0. No more pills and the cd food and distilled water have obviously helped. I am feeling happy and healthy and hoping to stay this way for a long, long time! Purr! Purrrr!!

A few weeks ago, I developed another urinary tract infection and had to take Baytril for 2 weeks. Near the end of this, I suddenly was unable to pee...at all. Needless to say, this hurt alot and I did some howling that made mom and dad take notice. Fortunately mom is a nurse and recognized right away that this was an emergency. Once at the vets office, it was determined that my bladder was full and after several unsuccessful manual attempts to release my urine, I was scheduled for surgery. After surgery, I was connected to an IV of lactated ringers, running at 9cc/hr. I had a foley catheter to drain my urine. The foley had to stay in overnite and I had to sleep in a cage at the vets. I had to wear one of those stupid cones for a whole week. Yuck! Embarrassing and humiliating!
Got my urine checked after 2 more weeks of Baytril and it still wasn't quite clean, so back on Baytril for another 2 weeks. I am now officially an expert pill popper. Another urine check in a few days and hopefully a clean bill of health. The other alternative is just too scary to even think about. The vet said that sometimes when the obstuctions continue male cats have to become female cats( to put it mildly). Hey the vet already cut my balls off. No way are they getting the rest of me. After some hard thinking, I wonder if someone knew in advance and that is how I got my name, Hershey. Get it? It is not funny! I am eating my cd food and drinking distilled water and keeping my paws crossed that I do ok.

Well, I got caught using the litter box too frequently and only going in tiny amounts. Another trip to the vet. I cried out my protests during the car ride but no one heard and turned the car around. I spent the day in a cage while people hovered around waiting for me to pee. Good grief! Mom and Dad came back for me that afternoon. I had not given up a drop. Wonderful words. They are sending me home so that my owners can collect a sample. Back into the carrier and out the door. The sweet smell of clean air. Ahhh! Into the car. Oh no, I can't hold it any longer. I pee all over my Dad. Sorry. They finally get a sample and now I am taking those awful pills again. I have another UTI but no crystals this time. Oh no, time for my pill again. Gotta run and hide...
