I know what that means! It means that ... PDPC and 9 other dogs signed up to go on this adventure with me! We did not know where we were going but judging by the clothes in the suitcase, it was going to be someplace warm! So into the suitcase we went! Charlie, Buttercup, Star, Walker, Roscoe, George, Amazing Grace, Hershey, Riley and I were very quiet and even though there were some comments about how heavy this suitcase was, nobody caught on! When Mom opened the suitcase she was so surprised! SURPRISE! We were suprprised too! We were in St. Thomas, USVI! View from the balcony We all had a great time in St. Thomas! We went to the pool and the beach and on the tram ride at Paradise Point. We went on sailboats, took the ferry to St. John and did some snorkeling! It was a fun trip! At the pool Met new friends When the two weeks were up we jumped back into the suitcase to go home. We were supposed to fly from St. Thomas to Miami to Chicago and then end up in Bloomington, Illinois. Unfortunately the luggage was not loaded on the last plane and we were left overnight in O'Hare Airport! Lucky for us there are lots of good places to eat at O'Hare! We ate at Rick Bayless's Tortas Frontera, Wolfgang Puck's, Macaroni Grill, Pizzeria Uno. Berghoff Cafe and Wicker Park Sushi Bar. We bought snacks at Nuts On Clark and Garrett's Popcorn! We shopped for souvenirs and did some sightseeing. in the airport The next day we were put on the plane for Bloomington and delivered to my house and all the dogs were sent safely home! What a fun trip we had! We will have to do this again! I hear the pawrents are going away again in July! Hmmmmm......... Note from the typist! Inside a huge red stocking was a big stuffed soccer ball, stuffed bone and cookies. There was even a pretty candle and peppermints for mom in there. My other Secret Santa was Sara, NPC, PDPC. She sent me a really nice bandana with my name on it, a Mr. Bill, a rope tug toy and a stuffed basketball. I received from my in-laws, Duncan's family, including Harley Nicole and Monty a Chewy Vuitton purse and cookies plus a bone picture frame and picture album. I also received a gift from Georgie and her brother Jackson bully sticks, treats, a stuffed pig, a stuffed reindeer that plays music and a kosher bone! All the dogs managed to get treats out of the moms and the waitress brought us water bowls. Some of the shops also put out water bowls for the doggies walking by. After lunch we walked around and looked in the shops. Georgie and I are known as power shoppers and we poked our heads into all the shops. We particularly liked the Dog Bakery there. About 3PM it started to rain a little and we said goodbye to our friends until next year and drove home. I napped some and I always enjoy stopping at the rest area to sniff around. Pepsi and Cindy Sue did not do it, they do not like it as well as we do. I chased that white thing all over the field! We also did the agility event, obedience, race the wind and I tried pulling a cart this year. There was the annual costume contest and Duffy and his bubble bath costume won first prize and rightly so! He looked adorable! After Purina Farms we all went out to lunch and we were very good while the humans had lunch. We had some water to cool off and some snackies. Now we are back at the hotel for one more night. Tomorrow if the weather is good we will go walk around in St. Charles and meet most of them for lunch again and then drive back home. I wish it was even friendlier and would let me use their pool, but apparently there are rules about dogs in the pool! Hmmmmppph! On Sunday we meet our friends at Purina Farms and attend the doggy olympics! They call it the Spirit of St. Louis Canine Games and it is hosted by the St. Louis Samoyed Rescue Club. All breeds of dogs attend. There are all sorts of fun games and events and the best one is the lure chasing. I loved doing that last year! We have all won gold medals each year too! There is also a costume parade and I am going to wear my new Fairy Princess costume. Mom is still trying to figure out how to keep the crown on my head. After we get tired out there, we go to a restaurant that has an outdoor area so that we can sit with our families while they have dinner. There are a number of very nice pet friendly restaurants in the St. Louis area. We traveled through the years together, he and I, each watching the other grow older. he was the keeper of my heart- aware of my ups and downs, responsive to my needs, affectionate and true. My life is different now without him. It's strange to come home and not hear his familiar bark, or see that tail wagging furiously back and forth--so happy just to see me. I sit...expecting him to run over and nudge me, or put his head in my lap, but, he doesn't come. he is not there. This place is not the same without him.
