I must say that I am grateful for all that I do have! It has been a PURRRFECT year! I was promoted to Captain of my own ship and I have a wonderful crew. Who could ask for more. I think if I had one wish for Christmas it would be for my human Mom and Dad. They have a Condo that they want to sell or rent. Right now they have a big financial burden paying both a mortgage and renting the house we live in. My Christmas wish for them is that they will sell the Condo soon. Then they will buy a house of our very own!! That would be a great present for me too!! To have our very own house, not a rented one. For myself, I would like a big deluxe cat condo with lots of hiding places and things to climb and play with. That would be super cool! Merry Christmas to all and a Very Happy New Year!!!

I am greatly honored to have been promoted to Captain by the Furry Federation. My Star Ship is called the USS Royal Bengal (Bengal for short). It is an Excelsior Class Star Ship which is a mid-size vessel. It is smaller that the USS Enterprise, but to me it is PURRRfect. It has a total of 17 decks and accomodates a crew of 450. The maximum speed is warp 9.4 for 12 hours. She is fast, sleek and beautiful! Right now I am assembling my crew. My Brother, Lt. Charlie will be my Science Officer and my Sister, Lt. Commander Fluffy will be the Chief Medical Officer. It will be nice to have my family aboard. All are dedictaed Star Fleet officers. I must admit that I will miss my best friend, Captain Stryper. I was his First Officer on the USS Carnivore. We made a great team. I know that we will keep in touch and perhaps even have some missions together. See you around the Universe!

Dad has an electric keyboard. I love to listen to him play it. I watch very closely and I have learned a lot. I sometimes like to play myself. I know how to turn it on by myself too. I wish they made a special chair that we cats could use to express our musical abilities. I have to walk across the keys to make it play. That works OK though and I must say, I do play beautifully. Playing music is a lot easier than typing! The keys are much bigger. If only I had thumbs!

I have a new mission in life! It is to remove all labels no matter where they are. I especially like the ones that are attached to cords! I don't know why they bother me, but they do. I successfully freed both air conditioners of their dreaded labels and also several others around the house. Mom and Dad came home one day to find bits of labels all over the floor! I don't know why they bug me like they do, but I have to get them all off! Mom says it is against the law to remove labels! I guess I might get arrested. The mattress is next!!

I finally got to officially meet my new brother Charlie tonight. I met him the first day, but he was too scared to play with me. Mom and Dad kept him in the spare bedroom for a week so that he would feel more comfortable. Last night, Charlie and I were playing "paws" under the door. The doors have big spaces underneath them. Mom says that is because they used to have carpets in the hallway. Now they have hard wood floors. It was fun because I could see Charlie from under the door. Tonight, Dad put me in the cat carrier and put it next to the bed so Charlie could see me. I didn't like it in there, so I undid the latch and let myself out. Charlie and I are playing now and getting along great! I gave him a tour of the house including the porch. He doesn't know about my secret room yet. That IS my room after all. I will share almost anything with him, but I'm not sure yet about my room. Anyway, He is a nice cat and will be a great brother! It is nice having a companion to be with.

Commander Stryper was promoted to Captain and I am his acting First Officer. I look forward to the challenge.

I'm getting very clever at opening and closing doors. Mom was surprised the other day when I showed her a new trick. We have these very cool drawers in the kitchen. The drawers slide out so you can reach things easier! Mom and Dad keep pots and pans in there. I like to crawl inside myself. Mom was in the kitchen and I wanted to have some fun with her. I walked over to the sliding drawer, took my paw and opened the door. Then I went inside among all the pots and pans. I didn't stay in long so Mom wouldn't get mad at me. When I came out, I took my paw and closed the door again! Mom couldn't believe it. I like to close doors but sometimes I accidentally lock myself in or out of places. I haven't quite figured that out yet, but I'm working on it!

I love it when Mom does laundry! I love to help her with the clothes. I really don't understand why humans have to put on clothes in the first place. I guess it is because they don't have much fur like we do and they get cold. Mommy only has fur on her head. Daddy, on the other hand, has quite a lot of fur! Why does he wear clothes? He should be nice and warm! Anyway, my favorite part of doing laundry is when all the clothes are gone and the basket is empty! Then I can jump in the basket and go for a ride! Mommy or Daddy carries me in the basket back down to the basement! It is fun going down the stairs in the basket! Sometimes Daddy will run around the whole basement for me! I really like that. He gives a better ride than Mommy does. Sometimes I try to ride up with the laundry, but that never works. Mom makes me get out. She says my butt is stinky and that she will have to wash the clothes all over again. That is OK with me- I will get more rides that way!

My party started off great! Mom and Dad brought me some Ball-oons!! There were three of them! I thought "This party thing is going to be great"! I was jumping and leaping for the ball-oons, trying to grab the strings. Mom and Dad were in the kitchen making food. Then Mom and Dad got all dressed up in nice clothes. The next thing I knew, Mom took my ball-oons and tied them to the lamp post outside! I thought that was kind of thoughtless of her. She knows I'm not allowed outside. Mom and Dad went out to the porch and I went out and joined them. All of a sudden a car machine came into my driveway. Two female humans got out of the machine. I knew one of them. She had come over to the house before. Mom said that she was my human "Auntie Ruth". The other woman was introduced to me as my human "Grammy". I was cool with that. Next thing I knew another car machine came into the driveway too! What was Mom and Dad thinking!!! Two more strange humans got out. They all came into the house! This was just too much. I tried to go down to the basement, but the door was closed! "HELP!!" Mom opened the door and I bolted down the stairs and hid in my secret room. I could hear all these humans talking from my room. Later, more humans came to the house too. Dad tricked me! He went down to the basement and started to talk to me. I looked out from my hiding place and there were two other humans there! They were looking at me! I quickly retreated back to my room. I stayed there until I heard all the car machines leave and it was quiet again. When I got back upstairs there were all these toys on my glass coffee table! Lots of balls and fur mice. My favorite though was a black , furry toy with legs. It hangs from a string that is attached to a pole. It squeaks when it moves. Mom calls it "Cousin It" but I don't know what she means by that. Anyway "Cousin It" is my very favorite toy. Mom told me that my friend, Casey, had left it for me. Now I have lots of toys to play with! I guess I like parties as long as I can hide from all those humans! The strange thing was that no other cats came! I thought it was my party?! How come only humans came? Doesn't that seem strange? I just don't get it!

First these big bag-like things came down from the attic. They were cases for suits because Mom called them "suitcases". Sure enough, Mom started putting some of her clothes inside of it. Dad has one too, but his is still empty. Mom told me that she and Dad were vacating the nation for a week. I really don't understand this too well but I think that is what she said. My cat is much better than my human to be sure. She spoke too fast and ran the words together. It sounded like "vacation". That must mean vacating the nation right? Anyway she explained that my friend, Casey, would be coming over to take care of me. I saw Casey a couple of weeks ago! I really like her. Mom said that Casey was going to sit on me!!! I hope not!!! That could hurt! I assume that cat sitters must sit on cats!!! I would much rather that she feed me, play with me and clean my bathroom box. Mom and Dad are leaving tomorrow. I am going to miss them.

Last night Mom, Dad and I were out on the porch enjoying the warm evening. I like watching the fast machines go by but sometimes people walk by our house too. They walk on a little path next to where the machines go. One lady had this big strange animal with her. It was on a string that was attached to it's neck. It reminded me of my harness thing. Well, you can imagine my surprise when this lady crossed the machine path and came over to our house! The strange animal was large, white and very noisey! It kept barking and barking. I thought it was very rude! Anyway, I ran back into the house. Mom and Dad were talking to the lady and the animal, that Mom and Dad called a "dog", just kept on yapping away. I am the curious type as you all know, so I very slowly crept back out onto the porch. The dog-animal didn't seem to react to me being there at all. It certainly didn't have the intelligence of a cat. I was kind of glad when it left though. I was also glad that it couldn't come onto my porch. It was an interesting animal but not something that I would like to play with. I would like to play with the birds and squirrels though. Maybe they will come for a visit someday!

Well, it WAS secret until Daddy found it and then told Mommy! I have this really cool room down in the basement that is ALL mine! Mom and Dad can barely see it and there is no way that a human could fit inside. It is purrrfect for me though! It is down in the basement where the ceiling of the basement connects with the floor of the kitchen. Dad told Mommy about it and she climbed up on the exercise bench to try and find it. All she saw was pink insulation stuff. My room is actually below the insulation. Mommy wasn't tall enough to see it. Daddy had her stand on a Tupperware container on the bench. Then she saw my room. I use it when strange people come over like the telephone or cable guys. It is the perfect hiding spot! I just realized that all of you other cats now know about my secret room! Oh well, I am happy to share. It isn't a secret room anymore!

It was a nice day yesterday, so Mommy opened the door to the screened porch and let me go out there. I was enjoying watching all the fast machines going up and down the black path in front of the house. Some were really loud but they never came close. Mom came out on the porch too and sat in one of the chairs. I was having a fun time when all of a sudden one of those machine things came right up along the side of the house!! It was only inches from the porch. Mommy didn't seem to be scared but I was! I ran back inside the house and cautiously peered out the door. You may not believe this but Daddy was inside that machine! It must have ate him or something! Mom was laughing and was calling my name. There was NO WAY that I was going out there. Daddy must have been really strong because he was able to escape the machine. He was outside the porch calling me too. I slowly crept closer to him but I was still a bit scared. I got as close as I dared and then bolted back into the house again. Mom and Dad were both laughing. I didn't think it was funny at all. Dad must be a demon or something. I really don't know what to make of it.

Mom and Dad put this strange thing on me last night. It was like a string, only thicker. Part of it went around my neck and the other part went around my stomach. They called it a "harness" I think! They told me that if I learn to wear this thing, that I can go outside with them. I really don't see how this harness-thing can keep me safe from all those fast machines that go up and down in front of our house. Anyway, I don't like this harness. I tried to get it off of me, but nothing seemed to work. I tried running really fast, jumping in the air, rolling around on the floor and even a back flip! Nothing worked!!! Mom and Dad were laughing, and Dad got out the video camera. Finally, they took it off of me. What a relief!! Mom and Dad get strange ideas sometime. Mom said that I would have to wear it again tonight! Oh No!!! I would like to go outside, don't get me wrong. I watch Mom and Dad from the window when they are outside. They seem to like it out there. Also all the birds and squirrels are out there too! I still think I like the porch better than this harness contraption though. It didn't hurt to have it on. It just felt strange. Maybe I will get use to it. We shall see.

I think I have Spring Fever or something. That what Mom calls it anyway. I have just been hyper lately. I just run and run like a wild man all through the house. Honestly, I still think it has to do with the fact that I can't get to all those squirrels and birds out in the back yard. I WAS born to hunt after all. I'm frustrated. Anyway, this morning I got Mom mad at me. As you all know by now, I have a "thing" for wires. Dad had strung a wire from a speaker, over the top of the door frame, to the big box with moving pictures. I just couldn't resist. I waited until just the right moment and POUNCED on the part of the wire that was on the floor. The wire came flying down off the door frame and landed on my back! I thought it was funny myself, but Mom didn't think so! She told me I was a "Bad cat"! I'm not bad am I? I thought it was funny because Mom had to climb up on a chair to hang the wire back up. Mom isn't as good at climbing as I am. I'm glad I have four legs instead of two. Ben =^..^=

I finally got some revenge tonight! What a good feeling! For some reason, I am not allowed in the computer room. I think it has something to do with when I killed two computer mice. I was young then and wires seemed like such wonderful things to chew on. Mom and Dad are worried about the wires hurting me. I don't see how they could. They are just like twisty ties and I can play with them. Mom and Dad say that I could get "electric-something or other" if I chew through the wires. I have no idea what they are talking about. Anyway, sometimes Mom and Dad go into the computer room and they close the door on me. I think that is just plain rude! I don't chew on wires that much anymore. I haven't given up the habit completely, but I have cut down. Anyway, I was getting sick and tired of being locked out all the time. Tonight I paid Daddy back! We were all outside on the porch enjoying the nice weather and fresh air. Mom and Dad were sitting on the chairs and I was watching the machines go by. Dad got up and went back into the house. I saw my chance! The minute he left, I got up on my hind legs, pushed the door with my front paws and slammed it shut on him!!! Mom was laughing hard. I was too, in my own way. Dad had a funny look on his face when he tried to come back out on the porch again. It felt SO good to give him a taste of his own medicine. I probably still won't be allowed in the computer room, but that is OK I guess. Now I know that I can keep Daddy off my porch!

I had a very exciting day today. The first good thing was that Mom let me go out on the porch. I like it out there. The weather is getting warmer now, so I hope I will be able to go out there more often. It is almost like being outside. There is something that Mom calls a screen that keeps me inside. I can get fresh air and see all the fast machines go up and down the street. Some of them scare me! Especially the big ones. Sometimes I get so scared that I run right back inside the house again. Mom keeps the door open so I can go in and out as I want. I'm getting braver. A while later, Mom started to take all the chairs and arrange them around my glass coffee table in the living room. Mom and Dad were having a meeting of some kind. My friend, Lisa, came. She came last month too. I really like her. Mom gave everyone cornbread! I had my own plate! Cornbread is my favorite human food. It was a good day but now I am tired. I think I will curl up on the futon and take a cat nap!

I have this really cool toy! It is long and purple and I just love to chew on it! There is a yellow one just like it, but Dad uses that one to protect some wires. He got a little upset when I chewed through some wires in the house. That was when these new toys arrived. I actually killed two mice! (the computer kind) I still like to chew wires but not as much any more. Dad gave me the purple toy to keep me happy. He was hoping that I would leave the yellow one alone. I do for the most part. Anyway, I don't think Mom cares much for my purple toy. Sometimes she trips over it and kicks it out of the way. One day I found my toy down in the basement! I wasn't too happy about that. I do like to play in the basement, but I also like to have some toys upstairs too. It was hard work, but I managed to pick up my purple toy in my teeth and carried it back upstairs! You should have seen Mom's face! I was very proud that I got it up the stairs. It stayed in the living room for about a day and then I found it back in the basement again! I couldn't believe my eyes! Now I had to carry it back upstairs again. So, with toy in teeth, I dragged it back all the way up the stairs. Mom and Dad were watching the box with the moving pictures. When they saw me carrying my toy, they started laughing. A little while later, my toy was in the basement again. Now I was getting pretty upset! I waited until Mom and Dad went to bed. Then I went back down to the basement and brought my toy back up again. Mom tripped over it this morning! I was laughing now! My toy is still in the livimg room. I hope I have finally won this battle of wills. I won't give up!

I don't know about you, but humans baffle me sometimes! I have been thinking a lot lately about the role that humans play in a cat's life. Just when I think I have it figured out, Mom or Dad will do something totally unexpected. I am almost ceratin that humans are supposed to serve cats. They feed us, play with us and even clean out our bathroom! That is the role of a servent. This theory, however, doesn't hold up sometimes. Take for example, the kitchen table. Everytime I jump onto the table to look outside the window, Dad has a hissy fit! He talks loud to me and tells me "NO". What exactly does "NO" mean anyway? I don't think that word is even in the cat dictionary, is it? Of course I am happy to see him so I roll on my back and give him my innocent, cute look. Next thing I know, I am on the floor again! After he leaves and goes back to looking at the box with the moving pictures, I quietly jump back on my table again. (It is MY table after all). This time Dad gets even madder and I often find myself in the basement for a little while. I just can't explain his strange behavior. He usually spends the most time playing with me! Maybe humans are just unruly servants. I am really at a loss here. Any suggestions on how to keep them in line? I get no respect!

OK, I am being punished!! I don't know what I did, but it must have been very, very bad! Mom and Dad are torturing me. Maybe they just don't love me any more! I am not sure, but here is my situation. We have a big back yard. I am not allowed out there because lots of big scary things go very fast in front of the house. Mom and Dad each have one of these scary things. They seem harmless when they are still, but they can move faster than I can run! I have actually been inside of them, but they take me to scary places like the Vets. Mom and Dad tell me that I have to stay inside because I will be safe there. I agree with that part OK. My problem is that they have hung this thing from the tree in the back yard. It looks like a box and I think there is food inside. Now the back yard is full of squirrels, chipmunks and birds! Yes, birds!!! I can see them, but the window is in the way! I can't get out there to play with them (or eat them, which ever comes first!) What am I going to do!! I am so frustrated. This just isn't fair!!!

Mom and Dad think I have potential as an Interior Decorator! I must admit that I do enjoy rearranging things so that they are more functional as well as pleasing to the eye. Take for example, the bathroom. Dad always puts his comb and razor on the back of the sink. That makes it hard to walk across the sink when you have all that stuff just lying about. I think his things look much better IN the sink. I also like to bat his shaving cream can into the bathtub. He always puts it inside the toothbrush holder. That IS for toothbrushes after all! Sometimes I like to place the shampoo and body wash bottles in the bath tub too. It just helps to remove clutter from the edge of the bath tub. I do so enjoy the paper rolling toy in the bathroom. That is one thing that my humans got right! It is SO much fun unrolling all that paper. It looks great on the floor too. I like to shred some of it to make a more delicate affect. As far as the living room goes, I wish my human parents would find a new location for all their remote controls. I love to lay on the glass coffee table and stretch out. It makes it very difficult to do when you have remote controls sticking into your rib cage. I think the proper place for them is on the floor. That gives me all the space to stretch out, and if I am in the mood to play rather than sleep, I can bat them all under the futon! They slide so well on the floor! Maybe I should design homes for cats!

Note from Ben's Mom: As I was typing this for Ben, he was back in the bathroom rearranging it again!

Mom brought home the strangest thing last night. I am trying to remember what she called it. It was some kind of a ball. Ball--oon, I think. It did look like a ball on top, but it wasn't like any ball that I have ever seen. It actually floated in the air and had a string attached to it. It was really big and it was blue. Last night it stayed on the ceiling. It just wouldn't come down. If Mom or Dad pulled it down by the string, it would bounce back up to the ceiling again. I couldn't reach it! I had to stand on the stereo speakers or the coffee table to get to the string. Maybe it was scared because it was in a new place. I get scared when I am in a new place too! I really thought that it was scared because by the morning it wasn't on the ceiling any more. We played together all morning. I could grab the string and it would float along beside me. Around noon time it felt comfortable enough to lay on the ground beside me. I started to bat it around with my paws. It felt strange and smelt funny. I realized then that it wasn't alive after all. Then the darndest thing happened! I hit it with my paw and it made a very loud popping noise! BANG!!! My ball--oon was gone! All that was left was bits of blue stuff and the string. Mom must have thought it was funny because she was laughing. She picked up the string and the blue stuff and put it in the trash container. I still don't know what happened. Did I do something wrong? I was only playing. Why did my ball--oon vanish like that? Do you think it will come back to play with me again?

I really don't know how it happened! Thank goodness that Mom and Dad were there to help me. I don't know what I would have done! It all started out innocently enough. Mom and Dad where watching the big box with moving pictures in the living room. They were sitting on the couch together. I jumped onto the back of the couch and went over to the window to take a look outside. It was dark outside again! It does that sometimes! It gets dark and then after a while it gets light again. It really doesn't matter to me. I can see just fine when it is dark out. Mom and Dad close this blind thing over my window every time it gets dark! I really don't understand why they do that. It just makes it harder for me to see out the window. I take my paws and move the blind thing around until I get inbetween the blind and the window. The next thing I knew, my back hind claw got caught in this blind thing!!! I couldn't move and it Hurt!!! I tried to run away, but that made it only worse! I think I scared Mom and Dad when I started to scream. They grabbed me and tried to get me free. I panicked and was struggling as hard as I could. That made my leg hurt more. I think I scratched Mommy pretty badly with my front claws. Sorry Mommy! She finally managed to get me off this blind thing. My leg hurt for a little while and I had a hard time walking on it. It was OK later and I can run and jump and play again! I don't like that blind thing anymore!!

I Guess that I have to admit that I might have a foot fetish. Mom and Dad seem to think so. I just don't understand why this is a problem. I mean, think about it! Who can resist the wonderful aroma of the average foot? Even the socks they wear smell so delicious. I just can't help myself. Honestly, I don't bite them hard. It is more like a playful nip. They usually end up screaming in pain for some reason. I do try to control myself. I really do!!! Am I in denial? Maybe I do need help!?

I have always prided myself on my ability to help others. Whenever Mom or Dad has a project to do around the house, I am always willing to lend a helping paw. Yesterday I helped Mom do the house work. I really love helping her sweep the floors! As she would sweep, I would make sure that none of the dust bunnies or dirt particles would escape! I would jump and leap all around the broom. It was hard work, but I didn't mind. These things have to be done, afterall. It is important when you are a member of the family.

I just got the best toy ever!!! All you cats out there should ask your humans for one too! Mom and Dad called it a "drain stopper" I think. At first they put it in the bathtub and filled the tub up with water. The water stayed inside the tub. That didn't make any sense to me. Why would anyone want to keep all that water inside of a tub? It is way too much to drink! They took my toy out of the tub and the water drained out. I saw so much more potential in this toy then they did! It was great to chew on!! It was great to bat around on the floors. I have spent hours and hours playing with my new toy!!! My humans realized that I was right about the tub, and they don't use it any more to keep the water in. You can teach humans. They aren't as dumb as they look!! Thanks Mom and Dad!!! =^..^=

It has been a stressful time for me lately. First all these boxes started to appear. Mom was carrying them from the computer room. Then she started putting all my stuff into them. My stuff was disappearing!! I knew they were in those boxes. I tried to bite the tape off the boxes so that I could get to my things. Mom would just say "no" to me and put more tape on them! Soon all my things were gone. I was so confused! Then a strange man came to the house. Mom put me into the bathroom with my food and water, litter box and toys. I could hear comotion coming from outside the door, but I couldn't see anything. I didn't understand!! Then Mom let me out of the bathroom. All the boxes were gone!! Almost everything was gone! They left me alone for awhile. I still had my food, water, box and toys, but my furniture and other things were gone. I explored the empty apartment. Later Mom and Dad came back to get me. They put me in the carrier they use to bring me to the Vets!! Oh, No!!! I cried. They tried to comfort me. When we arrived, I found all my stuff again. It was different though. It didn't smell the same and the house was different. Instead of carpets, there were hardwood floors. When I ran really fast, I could slide!! That was fun. My litter box was in the basement. I can go down there when ever I want. There are lots of cool places to explore and climb. I have been here a week and a half now. I like it better than the old place. They have a screened in porch that I can go in. It is like being outside, but I am safe from cars. I was scared, but now I am happy! =^..^=
