I know we haven't been around much lately. Silly human brought a shop and that's taking all her time. Grrrrrrrr.

BUT ..... I have turned to you guys my furry friends for some advice please.

The humans tells us we will be moving in about 6 months. To us that's a long long time away but the human says it'll be almost like tomorrow the way time fly's.

Anyway the question we ask is.... How do you keep your home smelling fresh and clean when you have to have kitty's locked up in it 24/7.

I hate been locked up and the human is very very worried about the event. The last time I came back from the cattery I had a huge hole in my chest. Hummm... I didn't tell her how I got it... I really don't like been confined.

We own lots and lots of cat trees, cat beds, food out 24/7, a water fountain, a heap of toys and anything else the human can think of to keep us happy.

About the litter box, we are not really used to them at all. We have three, we did have more but the human threw them out. It was so we could rotate the boxes when Balty had to be confined in the garage. MOL even through he always missed the box, we used it for him, hee hee.

BUT at the new place we won't be allowed outside AT ALL : ( we will be locked up with the box, in the house. For at least 6 months if the human can handle it for that long.

How do you furs keep it all clean? how do you keep the house smelling fresh?

Thank you all that respond : )

I was well behaved. The vet knows me well, and knows he'll only get one chance at doing something I don't like. Then... look out there is no second shot. New Zealand or Aotearoa (the Maori name for it) is made up of two large islands and one smaller one (the North Island, South Island and Stewart island) then lots of smaller ones again dotted around them.

Here's some info on the country...

http://www.newzealand.com/int/

We are about to go into our winter. Or should I say it's already here. The shortest day is around the 22nd June so I can't wait. I'm a sun loving cat you know. Roll on summer I say.

The human went to Aussie a couple of weeks ago She said it was for work but I dont' believe her. I saw the photos of her surfing at Bondi. Yes I couldn't believe it either. She could have taken me instead we had to put up with a Cattery. Grrrr.

I think I have taught her a lesson, when ever she goes away we get up to some sort of mischief. This time, I came back from the cattery with a large wound on my chest???? and I'm not saying how it got there. We were in private cages..... BUT I hate been caged and I'll protest till the cows come home.

The human is watching the wound too closely, it's kind of annoying. It's on my chest right up under my left paw, so it's a tricky place (for the human to check).
I'm a typical tortie, I'm not stupid. I'm very lovable when I want to be, but if you cross me look out. I can turn feral at the drop of a hat then there is no second chances. I'm a lady and should be treated as one. Humph! *Sam sticks her nose in the air*

I'm sorry to say we are finding Catster a little hard to use lately. I don't know if it's us, or Catster.
We have tried many times to send out thank you gifts to cats for all the gifts we received when D got home, Balty's 21st birthday and then when Balty passed. We get a few done and then we can't open the gift box or it takes us ages. I'm so sorry if you thought we have ignored you.

Today we received a message we have a paw mail from

Milo Swaggering Smackety Paw just purred a new Catmail to Mr D - D'boat #19 HOME AGAIN!. You can see it now in your Kitty Inbox

We'll when we went there, there was no mail???? was that an old one that just took ages to come through???? Or is Catster eating our mail?

I wonder if it's us but then I can see other websites ok. We are also having trouble seeing Catster pages, everything keeps freezing on us. : ( We get a little box saying do you want to run script or something like that. Sometimes that just keeps coming up and we can't even get off the page. Have we done something wrong? Or are others having the same problem.

We are starting to spend less time here because this is a problem for us.

The human has put on her wish list to visit the USA. she has done stop over’s but never really to visit the country. About 30 years ago she was into skydiving, she and a group of friends did go to a few DZs over there but that was it. She didn't see much of the country.

Well now she has put this place on her wish list

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l44SbDg9H78&feature=related

One day she would like to go to Florida and see this place. She has patted the Cheetahs at our Auckland Zoo and she has patted the Tigers over in Australia’s Dream world.
But this place is next on her list.

Maybe if there is a Catster get together one day she'll try and tie it in. She did see in the forums there is one place that has mention a Catster get together at a cat sanctuary. That sounds pawsome but unfortunately it'll take the human a couple of years to save for the trip.
Hopefully there will be another one.
The way the years are going (so fast) the time will come around in no time.

Has anyfur been there?
What's it like?
The human would love to know

Well It's not really me in the spot light. When I look around Catster all I see is my big brother Mr D.

Wow wow wow!!! Thank you everyone, that's sure to get him home. I can't believe there's purrs around the world for him.

I'm wondering if I went missing would I get all this attention. He's always and I mean always taken the spot light. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the support you have given us in our hunt for D.

Isn't Catster an amazing community of lovely caring cats. We've been here for 4.5 years now and boy time has flown. The house is now a bomb site and the garden is totally over grown because we are addicted to Catster

BUT.... what we have learnt here is so valuable it's well worth it.

So thank you everyone purrs Sam

I want to write about D and what's going on. I know you all want to know and I'd love to tell you.

There is so many I need to thank with all the post in Alfie's, Sonny Bono's and Miss Mittens diaries. All the gifts and all the lovely messages in the candles. I've written notes but I'll need time to put it all down in my diary.

I'm sprinting around at the moment like a mad cat meowing my little head off, trying to get the humans attention. It's late and... I ...think it's bed time. She's on the catputer, trying to read all the lovely messages.

I do this (the noisy sprint around) when I'm fed up waiting for her. I was sitting patiently by the door for ages, but.... I gave up. I do this until she gives in and comes to bed. MOL I can be very annoying.

Well as you all know my brother the big doopuss is lost again. The humans have been doing lots to find him. You wouldn't believe it... I'm as happy as, go figure.

You don't want to know what's going through my mind.

Anyway I need to borrow the human, its bed time for her as she needs to get up early to go D hunting. She goes at 4am in the morning, and then she has work. I hope you don't mind. As soon as we get time we’ll try and fill you in with some info.

I feel bad I can't write too much now. It's just the human takes so long to type it. She won't have enough sleep and be 'with it' tomorrow. She uses heavy machinery at work and doesn't want to lose any fingers

I hope you don't mind. We'll write as soon as, we appreciate all the kind messages purrs candles and gifts. I wish there was more time in the day to respond to them all.

Many purrs from us and thank you, purrs Sam

Well what can I say, I finally get a day off work, I haven't really had one for a couple of weeks now.
I looked forward to a nice lye in. When Sam decided it was time to get up at 6:30 am.
She wanted a pat and wanted it right then. Ok... so you say give her a pat. Well she was soaked and I mean soaked, the little minx had gone out in the rain, she must have sat there to get as much water on her coat as she could. Then decided I needed to dry her off. I suppose I should feel grateful it wasn't any earlier.
You can imagine a wet fur coat rubbing up and down your face and then under the covers. hummmmm...Lol, That seems to be a favourite trick of theirs as Raza has a habit of doing that too. I think they enjoy watching us squirm. ...
They can be right little terrors, but so cute.

And no you can't sleep after that, the shock of how you are woken is enough to keep you wide awake after that.

We are in trouble and it's Mercedes fault MOL. Ever since the human has found out about the Nikon D90 (back in July last year) she has wanted one. She is always impressed with all their photos and thought she'll get one too. Well the day has come and she came back from holiday with one, Grrrrrr. It's almost like we have the silly thing glued to our tails now. Everywhere we go the camera is just behind us. What is it with these humans and those silly little boxes?????
We tried to p-mail Mercedes and Pixie to thank them, hummmmm.... but the p-mails not working at the moment.
We are very lucky that the human has to work, she has a lot to catch up on, so we are getting a little rest while she is in at the shop. Look out when she gets a day off.
............I think I’ll have to hide...............

Mercedes gave us the info in the 'Stunning photos group' http://www.catster.com/group/Stunning_photos_made_easy-16614
I have to say... the human seems over the moon with it.
She says it's slightly smaller than the D70, a lot lighter.
faster and has this VR thingy on it. It also seems to be a lot more user friendly.
I definitely think we are in trouble ...Meows Sam

O' the joys of living with a cat. Sam is such a darling.
She was, and still is curled up in her little bed in the Spring sun.

In my eye's it's the best time of the year. As soon as I lay my hand on her, to stroke her beautiful fur her little motor starts to purr.

What a sound it is, I lay there besides her with my eyes shut.

It almost sends me into a trance. The warmth of the sun streaming down on us. Her purrs rumbling through my body, as the birds tweet merrily to all the new life that the day brings.

Oh the simplicity of life, we seem to miss it sometimes.
What a treasure it is to have a feline friend.

We really should spend more time enjoying the simple things in life.

Well I'm a little embarrassed about my last scratching escapade. I really didn't mean it ....honest ...

Well I'm a little embarrassed about my last scratching escapade. I really didn't mean it ....honest.... *holds head in shame* Meowmy's arm has two really good scratches on it.

Just so I sleep well, she has put a bed on her bed right by her head. At 3 am the other morning I leaped out of the bed (to go for my early morning snack) and I unfortunately missed my landing spot and landed on her stomach.

Her arm was there, and with the impact she jumped. Which cause me to jump even higher again, resulting in major (in her eyes but it was just a couple a scratches) damage to her arm and lots and lots of blood. I felt sooooo bad that when she woke in the morning I was right there rubbing my face against the wound and trying to lick it.

The human wasn't too keen on the licking as she wasn't sure were my tongue was last. She's had that problem years ago with Balty licking her and she received an infection she had to get stuff from the doc to get rid of it.

She wasn't annoyed with me at all, who could be? I looked so sorry for what I did, and who could be annoyed at a sweet innocent face like mine? Hee hee.

I’ll put a photo on my page of her scratches so you can see they are minor but she has had a lot of comments on them at work and she did bleed quite a bit from them.

I really do feel guilty and really sorry for what I did.
The human has now taken the bed off her bed. Just in case, if I do jump out again and if I land on her head, the scratches might be a little bit harder to hide. When she woke this morning I was sitting right on top of her.... where is my bed I demanded. I loved sleeping next to the human.

She said to me she is unsure where we should go from here. If I have the bed on the bed it may have to be at her feet, But but... I love purring in her ear at night. *Sam pouts*

I won't do it again..... honest.

The human wrote this in the latest Cats meow competition, and thought it'll be good to put in my diary too.

I hope all is well with everyone

We are really really happy here, the sun is out and it's the first day of spring.
It is the 1st of sept today. New Zealand is the first country to see in the new day. In the year 2000 many were watching us to see how our computers handled the change in the year as many were worried they were going to crash. Gisbourne was a popular place a it was the first town to see the sun. (excluding the islands nearby).

ALSO today ......it's the old guys Birthday.
Normally they don't do anything for our Birthdays but today is special. Balty has finally turned 20,

I know... we can't believe it either. We thought he was on his last legs last year when he turned 19. BUT look ....it's another year later and he's still trucking along.

Must go and chase bugs yippeee!!!!! Springs here.

The news looks good for me, it looks like I won't need the surgery Yipppeee!!!!!

I'm limping a lot less now and it looks like they may not have to tie the bones together.

I'm so happy for that. * dances around trying to hide the limp*

It's been hard enough going to the vet office every two weeks for the horrible injections. Even though the nice Vet says I look pretty and pats me. I still let him know I'm not happy with him.
I only hissed once, but that was enough to let him know what I thought of him.

The human has been so busy lately, so she asked if we can have time out for awhile till she sorts herself out.

I'm not too keen on it, but I know it'll help her out.

I've also been helping her around the house. You should see me...... the human took a video of me helping with the washing. She was laughing as I tried to fold this large super king size sheet.

I don't know why she was laughing, I was doing my best. :&lt

Anyway I have to run. I hope you all take care and have a great day. And thanks again for checking in on me purrs Sam.

Samoa, if you read this... I'm still keeping an eye out on the auction. I hope it goes well. I hope it helps Morgan out.
Many purrs to you, for organising it.

Thanks for the nice comments about my x-rays, and concerns. I wrote in my last diary about a limp. So they x-rayed me. I have torn or should I say completely snapped off the ligament that runs over the top of my knee. Don't ask me how I did it, as I'm not telling. The human has tried to get it out of me.
BUT... I'm staying quiet on the subject. I'm still under house arrest and suffering very badly from cabin fever. I WANT OUT!!! It's just not fair. It's been well over 5 weeks now, and I still have the limp. The human tries to keep me quiet then gives in and lets me loose in the house only. BOY!!! Do I tear around, up the cat trees, jumping from all the things I can.... look all this built up energy has to go somewhere.

Only problem is I'm still limping and my tearing around doesn't help. They said they may have to do surgery and tie the two bones together.... hummmmmm not keen on that.

The human is hoping the limp will go away, and she knows I have to stay locked up. But I'm making life unbearable with all my meowing .... I tell ya, I've got a pretty big meow on me. Hee hee

When I was a kitten I'd open my mouth and nothing... absolute nothing would come out. Then when I grew up, I learnt to howl, and howl I do. Wow!! you should hear me go.

Anyway the human has to let me out every now and then or she gets no sleep what so ever. It's like on queue at 4am and you know what I've figured out I get the best response if I meow in her ear.. hee hee you should she her jump. She lets me sleep in the same room as her as that seems to keep me the quietest.
So all in all I’m fine I’m not letting it get me down, other than the limp you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong with me. Except for all my protest that I should be allowed out, now that is killing me..

...

Yes .... we always figure out when the humans have to go away and we do our upmost to stop them.

It was my turn I drew the short straw, which I'm not too keen on. A couple of days ago I started limping I thought that would be the end of it but yesterday the human took me into the vets.

I was not a happy kitty, I was given some pain relief and an anti-inflammatory. Boy was I wired all day, high as a kite you should have seen me. My eyes were huge and I was so alert all day but also a very happy little kitty I purred and purred and wanted pats all day.

Today I figured something was up when they took all the food away last night. Hummmm..... Look I'm not silly and falling for any of their tricks. I hid, we played chase for some time this morning I went from under one seat to another then under table, anything I could to prolong the dreaded vets. I wasn't stupid I knew they wanted to take me back there.

Anyway we finally drove to the vets and the humans went into the consult room to talk to the vets. She asked, since they were going to knock me out can I be given a micro chip. I'm the last one in the family to get one. Since I'm really sensitive around my neck they wanted to wait till a time when I needed to be knock out. Well that day came, and they are going to X-ray my leg to make sure it's all ok.
The human also asked can they catch some shots of the bladder too, as I have been suffering from a few UTI problems. The human wants to make sure I haven't got any stones forming.

I was trying to voice my opinion and say.... you guys I'm right here .... DO I HAVE A SAY IN ANY OF THIS??? But they weren’t’ listening

The humans left, AND they left me here WHAT!!!!!!!! where are they going, Why aren't I going with them, MEEeeeeeooooooowwwww!!!!! take me home, take me home.... Don't you love me anymore????

I just got put in a cage and one of the lady's gave me a jab in the neeeeeccck zzzzzzzzz

I'm such a happy kitty. When the human came she went straight to our cages. We could hear the lady keep asking her to come back and pay first but the human just wanted to see us.

I hid, not knowing what was going on, but the rest followed the humans around like they weren't letting them out of their sight.
I fretted all the way home, I thought I was going back to the dreaded vets.

Then when we finally got home we settled in pretty fast, it helped with the human putting the felliway diffuser on.

Then I wouldn't leave the humans side I would groom her over and over again, I think her skin was getting a little raw after I'd finished with it.

Then when the human went to bed I followed her. Usually D gets on the bed and I'd get chased off but this time, I yes ….I ….wasn't having it. I was not leaving the humans side. I hissed at D and chased him off, then forcibly pushed my way under the covers so I was as close as possible to the human. Then proceeding to wash the humans feet (the only skin I found exposed) I was very thorough. I just wanted to show the human how happy I was she was home.

Hee hee…. THIS IS THE BEST…..

We also heard the follow up of the story from their side about what Raza did before they left. Remember we were trying all sorts to get them to stay home.
Actually they don't know it was definitely her, but we (cats) are pointing or paws at her (Furmum Raza).

What happened was a few hours before they were due to leave and after they dropped us off at the cattery. They noticed a strange pee smell in their bedroom. It was strange as we don't do that (pee inside the house) other than when D was trying to tell the human he had a UTI problem and he then peed ON THE HUMAN (would you believe it) when she was lying in the bed.

Anyway, apparently they washed the carpet thoroughly with carpet cleaner, vacuumed heaps and then sprayed the room with a nil odour product. Then they prayed it wouldn’t get stronger with the house locked up for just over 3 weeks.

Once they were at the airport the human male thought he was being a little paranoid and thought he could smell cat pee STILL. Well he went into the toilets to smell his good trousers (the ones he was wearing) and sure enough

...... CAT PEE......

Raza must have sprayed his trouser that were hanging on the door waiting to be worn on the trip.

The best thing they had already checked in their luggage and was due to board the plane. The human panicked and raced to the nearest duty free shop and sprayed smellies onto the area. They looked and looked at the airport and nobody sold any pants

MEOW... what revenge, that will teach them.

But that wasn't all. The first leg of the flight was 10 hours long followed by a two hour stop over at LA. Hee hee.

They thought fine they will put up with it and then buy some trousers / trackpants basically anything at the next duty free airport. But they were put into a holding room and not allowed out to see the shops
Then it was back onto the plane for another 11 hour flight, BOY was the smell getting stronger by then. How embarrassing for them *chuckle chuckle*

It's bad enough been on a plane smelling awful but it's even worse sitting next to someone you don't know that's smelling awful. They were soooooooo embarrassed. The human Male smelt like a perfume factory when he finally got off the plane (from the smellies trying to disguise the pee smell).

I meowed and meowed (laughed and laughed) when Raza told me what she did. It was even better when we heard the humans side of the story.

Rats the humans finally worked out who has the urinary problem. They took D and furmum Raza into the clinic, D tested fine. So they injected Raza who they suspected had a problem as she have been seen sneaking into the bath tub and peeing.

Well….. that didn't get the humans to cancel their holidays. So it was my turn...... I did it right in front of the human.
Again she panicked .
She rang the vet clinic and I was whisked in there in 15 minutes flat. It's Saturday today and she knows most of the clinics close at 12 for the rest of the weekends. There is one other clinic we use that does open Sundays, but they don't have the records of the UTI problems. AND we try to avoid the after hours one as that is just a patch and dispatch.

We have used them a few times. One time Balty wasn't breathing right and it was 11pm at night another was when Furmum was having us. One kitten was stuck by the shoulder the human couldn't get it to budge, so they took us all in at 1am. The kitty was DOA. : ( even though it was a short trip up the road.

Anyway, I received three injections today, Temgesic, Metacam and Convenia. I'm very sleepy at the moment. I’m so looking forward to feeling better, as the human did see me straining and peeing blood. My bladder is small, so that's ok (it’s not full and bursting). When I got home the human put some vegemite in some water for me and I lapped it up. She normally uses marmite but we didn't have any and they are very similar products. It was just to get me to drink more.

We are making a good go at using any money the humans have but they still haven't cancelled the holiday. Looks like we will have to think of something else. They have already been to the bank to borrow money for the holiday and they said they will just have to go back and ask for more, as us kitty's come first. So we have to come up with something that's not money orientated.

Think think think.........

I must be able to come up with something they are going in a few days.

The humans are going away very very soon and we found out they are putting us into a cattery while they are away. WELLLLL....... we need a plan to stop them from going. We don't have much time as they are going at the end of the week.

Anyway we put some urine in the bath tub with a little bit of blood in it. Hee hee that sent the human into a real tiz. She doesn't know who. Problem is……. she hasn't cancel the trip yet, but she did book both Raza and Mr D into the vet clinic in an hours time. Hee hee they are not going to be happy about that. Been checked for a UTI problem is no fun, but the human isn't taking any chances. She's asking why now and looking at me.... ME... she thinks I have something to do with it. She is now very worried about going away, as our stress levels will go up even more in the cattery. She tried to book another one but many won't take Balty, as he is too old and they are worried something will happen to him while the humans are away.

Problem is they promised this visit over 2 years ago and the human females grandmother isn't going to last much longer either. They were suppose to go last year but we came up with a plan that D did a runner and the humans spent all their money looking for him. Hee hee they still haven't saved up the money for the trip but they promised to go this year. The human male also needs to catch up with his mother after loosing his father earlier this year. So they still need to go, but at least the trip is shortened to only 3 weeks.
3 weeks will be a long time for us, and ….. with no Catster... Boo hoo. We are not going to be very happy kitties AND…… we will sing our hearts out in protest. You will probably here it from over there.

Thanks Edgar for those good ideas, I love them. Thanks also Vincent and Marvin, I need all the ideas I can get.

Only problem the human is here and she can see it all at the moment. mmmmm...... She wants to say a few words.

Hi it's Karyn here.
I know Sam is concerned about going into the cattery they all Sam, D Raza and Balty are all wired and woke the human at 3:30 am.

I wondered if they sensed problems and worry. My brother and his family are arriving tonight and they will stay 3 nights. I worry how the fur gang will handle it, as they go into hiding when they come around for just a day.

It maybe good training for the cattery? I think I had just put it all out of my mind and was shocked when asked when I was going on leave from work. That it was only 3 weeks away. Yikes!!!! that year went fast.

I did go around a few cattery's checking them all out. They are not cheap, but cost doesn’t mean anything when it comes to the wellbeing of the cats.
I have also had a few people offer to cat sit or come around and feed the cats.
I worry they will walk, looking for us. We did that a couple of times with Balty but he still got into trouble. So I'm not risking it this time, not after last year.
We also thought about trying house arrest. LOL, but good luck with that one, it was agonising when we had to do that with just one cat. BOY can this fur gang keep you awake at night if they can't have what they want. I couldn’t put anyone through that, nor do I think anyone would handle it.
We did that for Raza (a few years ago), we lasted a week, and then gave up, she wouldn’t let up. These guys love their outside time.

The cattery that they are booked into has a heated area. Which is important for Balty. I made sure the cage has a power point for Balty's heated bed and it has three large shelves going up the wall to the roof. We can take beds toys and we are thinking of putting a small cat tree in their cage. The cage also has a cat door to a private outside wire enclosed sun porch. But I know it's still a cage for them as they are used to a very large area.

I'm so worried I need to write a list of things they will need to look out for. Sam is sensitive and may not eat, so they are going to have to watch her. Also she is a sweetie but she is a typical tortie. You cross her, look out.
lol you should have seen the vet trying to vaccinate her, you would have thought she was feral. She is also the most intelligent of all the cats.

I hope the fur gang don’t come up with a plan, it would make it harder than it is.

The human has been so busy lately she hasn't let us have much time on Catster.
But our problem is..... Do you remember last year when they were thinking of going to Holland, and we came up with the plan for D to run away. So the humans would spend all their time and money looking for him.

WELL...... the problem is they promised they would make it this year. Luckily they still haven't saved the money, but they said a promise is a promise.
Grrrr.... they are still going. The lucky part... it will be shorter than normal.

BUT..... I'm not happy they are still going away....... AND they said they were going to lock us up in a cattery. WHAT.......... what's a cattery????????

Balty has told us lots of stories about when he was put in a few cattery's in his time.
I have never seen one. Since we have been around the humans have never been on holiday at the same time. They usually have staycations. Which, we so much prefer.

I don't know if our plan last year backfired on us, as they NOW do not trust us and won't get in a cat sitter. I'm really really not keen on being locked up in a small cage Grrrrrrr. But they are too scared we will go walk about if they are not here.

NOW WHAT??????
What can we doooooo?
And….. to make the matter worse it is in a few weeks, we haven't much time to come up with a plan.

Meeoooowwwww........... Help ........

How can we ruin the trip plans and get them to stay home.
They have to realise….. WE are more important than a promise.
The human male is looking forward to catching up with his family. He lost his dad at the beginning of the year so it would be good for him to see his mum again.

BUT... BUT ..... what about us???? Remember the furry ones that rule the house. It's our house and we are not leaving.

We need a plan. AND we don't have much time.

ARGGGGGHHHHH ..... I just found out....... it also means no Catster time for us, when the humans are away. WHAT.......... this can't be happening.

Well the hooman is blaming me.
She just went upstairs and noticed in the spare room, (where some of our toys and beds are). I and that's a big I found the cat-nip hidden in the toy box. She had some pretty expensive nip in there Apparently it was $9 for about a handful. It was quiet strong stuff, and the hooman used it to scent our toys.
WELL.... in the middle of the night one of us ... I'm not saying it WAS me. But.... one of us managed to open the toy box and pulled the bag of nip out.
NOW...... it is all over the carpeted floor, hee hee, and the room will smell of nip for ages as we made sure we rubbed it in well. We had it all over our coats, and the little plastic bag it was in, is now shredded.

Ooooooops,…. just thought, I hope we get more nip. There are a few other packets of the cheaper brands in the toy box but we didn't touch that. O 'well we still have the floor to roll on for awhile. Hee hee it still has a strong nip smell.

Hi. My name is Sam I was born on 24 January 2006 with my brother Darwin. They say I’m a tortoise shell and that he’s a ginger tabby. By "They", I mean the humans. Darwin and I had fun together and were very close. Until that fateful day. It was our second birthday and it was a beautiful summers’ day. On days like that, we love to chase bugs, crawl and climb all over the place and anything else that keeps us outside. So when it came time to go inside, the humans did their usual thing, calling us in. A little naïve that we would do what they want us to do, but it keeps them amused, and most of the time it suits us to come in at that time anyway. I decided to go in, but Darwin was having too much fun. Boys are like that, fun first, responsibility second. He just didn’t want the day to end. That wasn’t too much of a problem though. We have trained our humans to get up at 1:00am and open the door for us if we don’t come in earlier (even with a cat flap). This night was different though. I woke with a start at 4:00am and realised the human had not woken at 1:00am to see if Darwin was ready to come in. That wasn’t good enough, so I howled and howled to let them know Darwin wasn’t in yet. One of them got up and opened the door for him, but he wasn’t there. "Curious" I thought. The unsettling thing was, he didn’t show up all day, or the next, or the one after that. Those days were a blur for me. What had happened to Darwin? Why hadn’t he come in yet? The humans were also concerned (I should think so!). they took turns in staying up all night with the lights on, the doors open and the TV going to try and light up the house like a Christmas beacon for him. I hate to think what the neighbours thought, but my brother was gone and I was missing him terribly. I even tried to help by howling every night for a week. Where was he? I helped the human check all our usual hidey holes. She then went down into the nature reserve to see if he was there. That was supposed to be Darwin and my secret play area and I was a little shocked she knew about this place but glad she was going to such an effort. I tore around the place while she lumbered around like a brute (humans do lack our feline grace don’t they?). She ended up with a lot of scratches, bruises and some bee and wasp stings, while I entertained her with how one is supposed to traverse such terrain. She even stuck a camera in areas she couldn’t get to and took photos to see if he was there, all to no avail.

Then they went door knocking. I stayed home in case he made his way back while they were away. They made up flyers and handed them out to the people in the neighbourhood and also dropped off flyers at the local vet clinics. She asked each of them to call her if they saw anything that looked like Darwin, as if they might not be able to tell one orange cat from another. Turns out humans don’t quite have the eye for detail us felines have, as they received a lot of calls from people, but it turned out to be other cats. Bless them though, they did mean well. At one stage, the human even sat out in the middle of the scrub with a magazine to read, some cat food and water in case she saw him. She received so many mozzie bites, I almost felt sorry for her but this was Darwin we are talking about here. I’d purr and rub against her leg to let her know that I appreciated the effort she was going to.

Then came the day that someone was certain they saw him. The location was logical and both the people who lived there and their neighbours were certain they saw Darwin. This was after being gone for eight weeks. What were the odds? The people who lived there were very nice and let my humans put a trap out and they would go and check it regularly. Not one of those nasty traps, but an SPCA approved one (as if). It was used for just over a month. In that time, they managed to catch the neighbours cat several times and more hedgehogs that I have claws. The hedgehogs got to know the food would come out and would wait till my humans had gone and race into the trap for the free food. They learned quickly that the humans did not harm them when they found them there so went for a cheap meal. Hedgehogs are quite bright really. Not as bright as us cats, but bright nonetheless. So after six weeks of trap checking, no luck. The property next to them was also being gutted by chainsaws, and I know Darwin would not like that. If he had been there, he wouldn’t have hung around all that noise (he can be a bit of a scaredy cat at times). So they took the trap back. They still had the Kitty buffet out with a camera, so they could see if he in fact was in the area. Though he never got caught on the camera. He was also registered on a lost pets website. One of my humans is also heavily involved in a website dedicated to cat lovers ( www.catster.com ) and she was getting a lot of ideas and support from the people there. Apparently, many humans give up on a lost cat after this amount of time, but the support from the catster people kept them going.

But we were back to square one. I sat there looking at the human and wailed "What now?" They kept putting flyers out to remind people, but months went by and still no Darwin. Then one day the female human hit upon an idea. Instead of lots of little flyers, why not one big one? They had put a large, colour ad in the local paper early on, and that had led to some calls, but also to no avail. The human thought "What if I make a large sign and put it up on the road?" There is always a lot of traffic on the road in the morning, and it goes very slowly, so people would no doubt see it. They say cats usually don’t travel far, so a big sign that many locals would see could well do the trick. But would that be enough? I offered to stand up there by the sign and jump up and down. That would attract attention. It’s spooky how humans can sometimes think the same as us cats. You wouldn’t think they would have the ability, but just as I was thinking it, so was the human, because she says "I’ll stand up there and hold the sign up during the busy traffic periods. What’s more, I’ll wear a cat costume to make sure people didn’t miss it" So off to the computer to find someone that hired suits. The place she found had a Puss ‘n’ Boots costume for hire that actually was a ginger cat. What a coincidence. They wouldn’t need the boots, as the costume was pretty big. The top of the boots came to where the humans’ ankles were. No sword either, you’re just asking for trouble carrying a sword around these days. What a plan – a strange plan I’ll grant you, but a plan it was. Next, arrange time off work. Three weeks should do it. Then, ring the local council to make sure no rules were being broken This is Darwin! They should bend the rules, or break them. Fortunately, no bending or breaking was needed. It appeared operation "Shock and Paw" was a go.

So, off to the printers to get a sign made up. It was remarkably inexpensive (helped by the printing firm giving us a good deal). Why didn’t they think of this sooner? The costume hire company also helped out by reducing the cost. "All in a good cause" they enthused. In all, the cost was less than the one ad they placed a few months earlier in the newspaper. Go figure.

Then came the day it would start. In the time leading up to the day, the human had made up a stand for the sign to attach to while she wasn’t up on the road. That way it would be there for people to see even if she wasn’t. The big picture on the sign had Darwin with a butterfly on it. It seems appropriate that they used that photo, as the human had a stomach full of them when it came time to donning the suit. She did it though and I would look up at her and think "Good on you, I really miss Darwin as well and want him back"

It was the middle of winter by this stage and the first day, while no rain fell, it was very foggy. I wondered if the humans in their cars would be able to see the sign, what with their bad eyes (compared to mine) and all. But it wasn’t long before the phone started to ring. Most of the calls on that first day were from well wishers and some thinking it was some publicity stunt. A publicity stunt? Indeed. Each morning, during peak traffic, she would go up to the road and hold the sign up. People would toot, some would call. We got some leads, but still no luck. Then a friend from Catster, who lived in Canada, wrote to the television station informing them of the efforts the human was going to. They thought it interesting enough to put on their breakfast show. The human wasn’t sure if she came across as a dedicated cat lover or mad, but I knew which camp she belonged to. The people from the TV were sceptical about finding him back alive after six months. Then the local newspaper became interested and interviewed her. They put the story on the front page on their paper. Even a magazine rang and interviewed her. The publicity generated a lot of calls. I mean a lot! Every lead was chased up. Then after two weeks came another call. There was no reason to expect it to be any different to the others, but like all the previous calls, it was treated seriously. The person on the other end of the phone said "I’m about to head off to work, but I think I see your cat on the neighbours porch." The address was about a mile away, but as one of the humans was at home, it was a simple task to go and check. It was about a mile away, but in the opposite direction to where the trap had been placed so long ago.

Now, I was still at home at the time, so all I can convey is what I’ve been told. I have no reason to doubt the voracity of the statement. The female human arrived at the address Darwin saw her. He has always been very shy about humans, but the moment he saw her, he cried out "Hey! Here I am. What took you so long?" and trotted over to her. So overwhelmed by finding him after all this time, she didn’t even risk going back to the car to get the cage, she just scooped him up and bundled him into the car. That’s when she decided to check it was him. Colour was right. Markings matched. Then the clincher….the small kink at the end of the tail (a birth defect). It was Darwin!!!!! The human knocked on the door to talk to the owner. They said they had heard a cat meowing at night under their house, but didn’t know who it belonged to. They didn’t even know someone was missing a cat.

Darwin is back home now. He behaves like nothing happened. Apart from sometimes regaling us with his adventures, he is still the same old Darwin. I occasionally growl at him for what he put me through, but he seems to have got the message. When the door is open, he’ll pop out briefly, but never strays away too far. I just have one question, he has told us of his adventures and I wonder, how true is the bit about the Marquis of Carabas?

D and I caught wiff of them planning a holiday this year. It was to be a big one, about 5 weeks long. They were going to visit the hoomans males family in Holland. It was probably going to be the last time the whole family got together.

BUT....... We got talking to Balty, and he told us what happens when the hoomans go away. Sometimes they have put him into a Cattery, they tried one with a huge cage with many other kittys to keep him company. But Balty hated it. So next time they tried one with a big cage all to himself with a heated room for the night. Still no good. They have also tried having house sitters in to look after him. They weren't too bad but he still managed to get up to mischief and needed vet treatment.
So we thought we are not having that so we devised this really cool plan, hee hee.

All of us Furmum (Raza), D, myself and Balty all got together, and we decided we need to do something to stop them from going. So we thought off all sorts of ways that might use up all the money. ie. major surgery, but no-fur wanted to volunteer for that one. Or one of us just goes missing for a while. We thought that would be the best one, BUT who. Balty said he was tooooo old, which he's right, he may not handle it. Fur mum being an Exotic, if someone finds her they may try to sell or keep her. So it was down to D or myself. Yiiikees!!! Well I got my brain thinking here, knowing D is so trusting he would never guess I have rigged the twigs. So we drew who got the short straw. Hee hee surprise surprise, that would be D.
So off he went.

It has worked a treat so far, and I think he should be able to come home soon.

So far ........
1. The hoomans have made heaps and heaps of flyers looking for him,

2. Spent all their spare time on it as well hee hee (no time for trip planning)

3. Put a really expensive add in the local paper. (That was the best one to drain the trip money).

4. Hired a cage at $27 /wk which D has been watching. (this ones been going for a quiet a few weeks now, hee hee.

5. The hooman has booked a couple of weeks off work to look for him (that wasted 2 out of the 10.5 weeks she has up her sleeve.

6. Now the lastest thing is.... they brought a camera, and it should be here any day. D better look out he might get seen. But that will be OK because I think we have managed to put enough of a dent in their holiday plans that it won't happen for quite a while now, hee hee.

*Giggling* I think it's worked. Now we just have to have D come home and we are all sussed. I think the hooman female is ok about it, since she doesn't really like going away and leaving us. She always worries when on holiday. The hoomans haven't been away since they got furmum 3 years ago. But from what Balty tells us it's not nice.

Soooo shhhhhh..... DO NOT TELL THE HOOMANS.
maybe in a few years when everything's been forgotten and we can all laugh about it. LMOL. As it stands now they have cancelled everything to do with the trip, Yay!!!! IT"S ALL WORKING PURRRRFECTLY.

I'm lost ............... if I can't choose to go out side.
I don't like the doors shut, I always want to go where ever I feel like it. Even though I do tend to curl up inside most of the time, I hate it when I have one of my choices taken away from me. It's wet outside, like lots and lots of water. The hooman has put out some more toys for me, hoping that will cheer me up.
BUT... *stamping the paw on the floor* I want her to change the weather.
I don't understand why she dosen't do that. *mutter mutter &#@*
She brought out our big crinkly tube, we have three cat trees up, and lots of small toys around but it just isn't enough. I want the sun to come out again. *Sam pouting*
Hooman here....
Sam luckily has quieten down a little, now she is sitting on a chair in front of the open door watching the rain. When-ever I walk near her, she looks up as if she's had a fright. It hasn't rained here (this hard) for a long time, I think she's forgotten what it looks or sounds like. Hee hee paw wee thing.
Unfortunately I can't help her, (with changing the weather). Also with winter just around the corner she may have to get used to it. Last night ....... in the middle of the night she started howling again, then she crawled under the bed covers for a bit. She seems a little lost at the moment, I don't know if she does have a connection to D or not. Or it's just that it's been raining for the last few days. I hope she does have connections, as they were very close and I hope D will find her or at least search for her. There's thunder now, I think the storms here to stay for awhile. I rang the people up who have the trap on their property. We have it set were they can easily see it from their house, which is good. Since I would get very wet going around there. I thought I'd ring and ask if the trap is still set and OK. We really haven't caught anything other than their cat. Oooooopssss hee hee. We'll keep trying.

MOL I have done the rounds again. And again meowed at the front door for the 4th time. You would think she would have learnt by now wouldn't you. MOL.
She just needs to leave the door open.

I have been meowing alot more today, the hooman is not sure why. I'm very close to my brother, but we are not twins (as in the same birthsac).
The reason my hooman knows this, is because both D and myself had to be revived at birth.

We are lucky the hooman suspected furmum was going to have us ,and she stayed up all night to monitor her.
As it was we lost two siblings. The hooman tried everything to save them but was unable to get them to breath.
One had to be pulled out by the emergency vet.

I was born first, then D. The third had major problems and thats where the vet stepped in at 1am in the morning.
But that one and the next one was a no go.

So it was just D and myself. We are very close, well, we were.
Anyway with my meowing today, the hooman thinks I maybe feeling what D's feeling. And he's out there, hopefully feeling my (Sams) comfort too.

Hopefully it might help him feel his way home.

We still have our paws crossed.

I'm meowing at my hooman at the moment again, she just can't figure out what I want. MOL. She says it can't be food because the food bowls are full. There is water in the water bowls. She asked me if it's because the front door is closed, she said I can go out the other door because that is wide open. But... how do I get it through to her, I want the weather changed. It's was terrible all day yesterday and it still hasn't improved. I'm not happy, where is the sun.

Also I'm wondering how D's getting on.
It doesn't feel like summer at all. I hope he's found a nice warm home.

I woke up at 4 am this morning meowing again, the hooman is wondering if I have some connection with D, or if he is around. So she got up and opened the doors to the deck. I still went around meowing, I would run out the door to the deck, around the house and then meow at the front door for it to be opened. It is now 7 am and I have meowed at that door three times so far. Doesn't the hooman get the hint I want that one left open too. I'm sure D's around, I've been meowing and calling him. What else could I be meowing about, other than I want the weather changed. The hooman must be able to do that, she does everything else I want.

First I'd like to say .......Thank you all for thinking about him .
My hooman finally bit the bullet and rang the council.
She found out the road sweepers and park wardens report all deceased animals, and the council holds them for 10 days before they are destoryed.
I'm so happy to say they don't have him, nor is he on the list. They did say there was another kitty down our street but it did not match his description. So good news so far for me, not for the other kitty's family.
The hooman is still looking into that trap idea, though It'll probably keep trapping the neighbours cat MOL. I'll also have to stay out of it. Oh it'll be so tempting. We'll all probably have to have a go at it. MOL . So the hoomans will have to keep a very close eye on it. But if it catches D, it'll be worth it.

We received another phone call today. It was miles away, but we still checked it out. We took along a piece of flax which he can't resist, and loves to chase. But still nothing.... no Mr D. There was a huge party at the house next door to the people . Bad enough that the letter box got flattened the night before, and he may have been scared off again if it was him.
The nice people said they will keep an eye out, and try and catch him next time. MOL I just hope it is him and not some innocent kitty living in the area MOL. We left them a flyer with a better photo of him just incase it was him, or they do catch the kitty. I can't amagine it is him so far away, but then again who knows. We will follow all leads.
Thanks again for all the support. Everyone has put in such an effort he must feel it. So thank you all. And... Thanks again to Catster and those that put my brothers name forward to Catster for COTD.

The add came out yesterday, and we have had 2 phone calls today
We have checked them both out. There is one paw kitty we've had 3 calls on (one yesterday and the 2 today). The hooman has seen the cat, he has white paws and white down his front. Which are two places that are hard to see in the photo. He must be new to the area.
It was so lovely to think they all cared. They seem so sure it's him, even with the hooman standing there saying it's not him. They were so nice, I can see why people may think it's him.
The hooman took the day off from work today, so she could leave at a moments notice if anyone rang. But.. there were no more calls till the end of the day. Hooman male will be home tomorrow waiting again for any calls.
We still have our paws crossed.
The hooman still keeps double checking areas around the house, and stripping down all the cupboards, MAN WHAT A MESS..... AND.... what rubbish. I think the hoomans new name is hoarder, a hoarder of rubbish, she threw out heaps. It's probably was about time she did a clean out.

One problem, Raza my furmum kept going in the cupboards, the hooman was worried she'll get trapped in there, so she had to do a head count before shutting anything MOL.

One thing that has arisen in the last few week. Raza (furmum) is the defender of the area, and usually fights all our battles. She's highly protective of us (her kittens), even though we are now 2 yrs old. Anyway she now has taken up spraying in the house. Very undesirable to the hoomans, and they are not sure how to deal with it. Maybe there is a Tom around but we haven't seen any. I really hope things settle down soon and D's back.

I've been getting better at excepting that he's not here. I'm not meowing much at all now.

MOL The hooman thinks I'm starting to gain weight now too. Which she thinks is good, as I was always very skinny. Maybe because the food bowls are now free, I would never eat when someone else was there.
I'm also not running around much either. I've been chasing furmum but it's not the same.
Maybe tomorrow......

The hoomans had an ad in the local paper today. They got three calls, but two were a long way away (even for a hooman). One was a lady who said she was woken at 6:00am to the sounds of a cat playing in her lounge with the toys of her own cat. When she went to investigate, the cat ran away, so all she could tell is that it was ginger. How could she not tell it was D? Hoomans may all look alike, but we cats are all individuals.

The third one was promising so the hoomans went and checked it out, but could not find him.

I have to keep hoping that D will come back. He has to. Who else will I have to pick on?

...and still no D.

The hooman male stayed up all night last night, with the lights on and everything, because the hooman female had to go to work. (She needed to sleep)

MEOOOOOOOOWWWWW......... We really want him home.

I know many of you know how we feel.

Tonight the hooman female was soooo tired when she got home from work she went straight to bed. It is now almost midnight and she is up again playing tag team with the hooman male. It is now her turn to stay up to keep vigil.

We will keep calling him, all through the night.

She keeps rechecking cupboards and any small areas, incase she missed something. Even trying to sniff aroundplaces. It's been so long now, we must be able to smell something, even if its his toileting. That's if he's trapped close. We must be able to smell it, or him. I think the worst thing is not knowing.

She follows us around incase we are able to lead her somewhere, but we tend to look at her as if she's strange, and then walk in circles.

I'm getting better I haven't been calling him that much today.
But I'll be really happy to see him. I want to hear all the stories about his big OE (outdoor experience) For every wound he has, will tell a story.
Roll on story time.

I'm still getting some great ideas through p -mail and in the groups. We have tried the B-B- Q a few times now, D was a fussy eater and never ate wet meat. The funny thing is neither do I. My furmum and the old guy Balty does, but we don't.
I think it stems from us not wanting to be weaned off furmum. We were around 8 weeks of age and still refusing to eat our own food, So the hooman would force us to try different wet meats. She said it was because furmum was soooo tiny and we were so big. She was worried for the health of furmum. Anyway to this day we don't eat wet meat.

Somecat suggested other rescue groups. Now that is a thought there must be more around. I'll ring the SPCA up later when they are open and ask them if they know of any others and if they have the ph numbers.

The add. should be out very soon, sometimes they deliver through the night. I can't wait to see it. I really hope it works. This sounds like it's almost our last shot. I really hope he hasn't got in a vehicle and travelled further. That's why we tried to contact the bigger newspaper. We have our paws crossed with that one

We still want to thank everyone that has been thinking, purring, praying, lighting candles (real and virtual) and giving us amazing amount of support, hint's and tips. I really don't know what we would have done without you. I really can't thank you enough. Purrs Sam

I've have just started up my Meowing again it's now 12:20 a good time to call him. My tail is full of biddy bits from the section next door . I know that area quite well and I look for him there often. I'll have to let the hooman pull them all out again. so I can go and get some more. It seems to be a nightly thing lately. ( pulling biddy-bits out of my tail).

I'll go now, I'm walking around calling him and the hooman wants to follow me.

See ya later, and thanks again.

.......I'm wondering what to do next. I meowed and meowed again today.
I'm now so tuckered out, I'm just having a catnap on the roof of the car.

BUT....MOL ... this is the hoomans latest craziest idea to get D home.....

The hoomans have door knocked all the houses on this side of the road We are guessing he went through the reserve. There more than a hundred houses back on to it, (or a couple of houses away from it).
Then there is the water which we don't think he has crossed, but the hoomans have still walked around the other side talking and calling for him again, about 5 hours ago.
It is now after 3 am and the hooman (Karyn) doesn't have to work tomorrow, .....THIS IS THE CRAZY BIT....So she is going to stay up all night. She has opened all the doors turned on the TV for sound (D's very nosey). So She's hoping he'll follow the sound, and she has turned on every light inside and outside the house. So the house at the moment is lit up like a beacon. (She got the idea from the candles everyones been burning). With sound that will hopefully travel through the quiet night. If he is near by, he'll probably be active at the moment. So she feels it's a good time to be as loud and bright as we can. Hopefully without annoying the neigbours too much. MOL.

D's add is still going in the Thursdays local free newspaper which is about a couple of days away.
Weds. ( which is our tomorrow ) is a public holiday and the publications deadline was brought forward, so I'm hoping the paper might come out a little earlier. I can't wait to see it, and it'll cover 75,000 homes around here. Paws crossed it works.
The hooman needs a coffee must stay active I'll go and call him again outside. See ya.

I'm still meowing for my brother.
The hoomans have tried to catch me on camera, so they can play my meowing on their walks. BUT.... as soon as the hoomans move, I shut up. Hey I'm camera shy alright. They tried to explain to me, it'll help find him, but, but... that horrible box pointed at me, just gives me stage fright.

There was another idea which she thought of today. Which she quickly did.

Is.... many cats and dogs have mentioned how we can be hiding in the smallest of places, even drain pipes so check them all. She woke up again from another nightmare, last night. That they opened a kitchen cupboard and out he fell. Only a dream but she woke up with such a start, it had her thinking. What if, he is right under my nose and I have over looked him.
So she went out and brought another card for the digital camera, and heaps of batteries.... Then went around all the little nooks and crannies that she couldn't see before. Places you maybe able to get your arm in but not your head. She took heaps of photos then played them all back to see if she could see him in any of the shots. No, still no D. But another horrible dream knocked of her list.

We will keep looking.

Thank you every one, from the bottom of my heart. The photos, candles and the photo tags. Thank you all. You were all very kind and it was definitely worth a shot. But unfortunatly no Mr D yet.

I was sooo confident we would find him today. The doors were open all day, The hoomans door knocked for hours again this evening. Everyone seemed really nice about it, and almost all were home. They did not find the person who was supposed to be feeding the cats. There was one house at the top where a lady said the folks at the bottom just love cats. So we are wondering if it was them. The people at that house gave them no information about it at all, other than he looks cute and they're sad to hear he's still missing. Almost all had mentioned they saw the last flyer and the hoomans gave them all another. Last time they got very few people at home. This time they were targeting the evenings. Almost all were home.

I'm really pleased it has just started to rain, one it'll give him more water, and two hopefully make him think of home, and how dry it is. You never know the day is not over, hopefully he'll still return.

I was so hopeful we would find D, the hoomans even parked their car around on that road ( it's a different street to ours) so when they had D they could just put him in the cat carrier then in the car. So they didn't have to carry him around the road. They didn't want to scare him. But they didn't find that house nor D.
But the hoomans did bring it to everyones attention again, and most are looking for him, some even said they would pray for him.
They were very careful looking at all the properties, but it's really hard most of the bottom homes back on to the reserve with lots of bush.

We will keep looking but I don't want any cat or doggie to feel they have to have my photo. It was a such a lovely show of support from you all. I still believe in the power of the purr. I think you are all protecting him, wherever he is and without you guys he would be a lot worse off. So thank you very much for that.
I can't believe it's been 10 days now. I know there are many positive stories about cats being away longer and still coming home fine. It is fairly safe here and if he's not trapped he can fend for himself.
In the hoomans walks last night they came across a couple of empty houses. They looked in all the windows and all around the sections. Luckly they went to the neighbours with the flyers so they all knew why the hoomans were there. New Zealand is starting to get a bad reputation. We have had a few homicides lately Not in this area. but it still makes people wary. That sort of thing was unheard of a few years ago.

We still have the add going in the paper on Thursday ( Catsters Wed) which will have a wider catchment. I'm so glad we booked it when we did. I'd hate to think we'll have to wait another week. I do miss my brother and I'm still calling for him all hours of the night.
Thank you all again when this is all over the hooman will probably need to sleep for a week. MOL She is still trying to call him in the early hours of the morning. Last night it was about 12:3o and at 5 am. I make sure I wake her up for it. I have a pretty loud voice when I want to use it.

Thanks again, we really appreciated it.
Sam and the family

You wouldn't believe it but the hooman was sooo rapped up in thoughts for where D would be she forgot to change Razas and Balty photos. I slapped her hand and she was very imbarrased. She's still waking with nightmares so D just better get that furry backside of his, back home. There will be someone home all day tomorrow again. We have planed it that one hooman is at home most of the time, the only time we have to lock up is when they do the walks around the houses. and any urgent stuff. Other than that we are all waiting for him or a call from someone who has seen him. Still got our paws crossed, I think by next weekend we will be trying the trap idea. We'll have to look into where we can get one from.
Thanks everyone.

My furry pillow is still not home. : ( The hoomans have been getting some fantastic ideas from many cats and doggies. Some cats have started a group. I think there is alot of extremely valuable information here. If you ever loose your pet, definitely check it out. The cats and dogs there are all very sweet, and put together there is an enormous amount of love and support. They all have some fantastic ideas, and links for information if your looking for your pet. Also the ideas they think of themselves, I totally recommend if any one is looking for their pet to check out this group. I won't put the name here because it'll probably change soon, hopefully, (meaning D's home).
Here's the groups address :

I hope others find this helpful.

As far as looking for D goes here's a message from him.

I am still on the run, but there is postive news. The hoomans went out door knocking again in the evening. There were a lot more people at home. They had all seen the flyer but not me. The last house they went to on the other side of our house ( well 3 houses over) There was a lovely lady there, who they spoke to for awhile. The hoomans found out there was a guy in the next house over at the back of her section that feeds the local cats ( This was also mention by one of the cats, they asked if there is a cat hoarder around.) This was very interesting.

The hoomans wanted to go straight there. But it was getting quite dark and late. It was probably too late to knock on some persons door, so they'll be going straight back there tomorrow. They haven't worked out yet which drive way is his, so they will have to door knock on them all. It's good exercise for them up and down steep hills.

They have read all the hints and alot of cats thought I'm was near. That's why they went back to door knocking our neighbours. Paw crossed.

When I finally get home, I'll get my hoomans to write up the list of the ideas, all the cats and dogs mentioned, and things they did. So many cats and dogs offered ideas from their thoughts, and it was extremely helpful. I really hope all this info manages to help other kittys and doggies out there. Those links mentioned are pawsome. Thanks every one.

Sams day off, it's the Hooman Kayn here.
First:
Thanks again everyone for the purrs and everything.
You guys have been so sweet

I'm really hoping he comes home very soon I'm feeling like I've looked everywhere. We are still in the middle of two public holidays Auckland Anniversary on the 28th Jan and 6th Feb Waitangi Day. Just incase he hid in a garage.
The neighbours on either side (slighty beyond his Territory) are all home with garage doors wide open. So he won't be in them. I'm really thinking he was chased off that night, when I couldn't get him in ( I should have left Raza out with him). I'm guessing he is way out of his territory and lost. Hopefully not in a garage. Someone is bound to be feeding him, he's such a lovable sweet cat. They just may not be able to get close to him to read his cat disk (that's if he is still wearing it). I can't wait for the add to go in the paper. Hopefully someone will ring. New Zealanders are generally a cat loving nation. So paws crossed. I have been calling for him in the early hours of the morning when everything in quiet, hopefully my voice will carry.
I'm sure I'm annoying the neigbours below. But the rest are very understanding.
I keep having horrible dreams about what may have happened to him but everytime I check the area, he's not there, and I realise the event would not be possible.
Just one example is.... In the reserve below us, the water is tidal and I know he likes to play in the water. I was wondering if he had fallen or just gone down the bank and got stuck in the mud, you know how you can sink into mud
Well..... It is very steep AND it is in front of the neighbour property so I've never been down there before (They are not as sociable as the other neighbours). So I went to look, and made my way down the bank to the muddy bottom ( The tide was out) No sign of D and the mud was incredibly firm. I didn't sink at all. So I was happy I could cross that one off my list. I think I have check every possible spot in his territory. That's why I think he's Probably OK. Meaning he hasn't done something stupid Like got hung up on something or stung by a bee in the throat. Or if hes eaten some poison, because I should have found him.
Maybe tomorrow will be better. Let's hope.

But... Nothing, he hasn't come home yet, Meeooow! It's been 6 days Now!!!!!

The hooman went first ...

But... Nothing, he hasn't come home yet, Meeooow! It's been 6 days Now!!!!!

The hooman went first thing to the SPCA to see a ginger cat that had been found, but it wasn't him. She left a flyer with the SPCAs hospital, (where all the animals go first). If he does turn up at any vet clinics they usually ring the SPCA to come and get them. She's worked in a few vet clinics and that was usually the rule of the thumb. So I'm hoping she's found a good place for the flyer. They seemed really happy to have it, and there weren't many on the board, which is good. The hoomans have done many of the suggestions,.

She has walked his area and checked every inch she could find, somecats mention roofs, some trees , under houses, she has gone and checked them all as they have mentioned them.
Because she has not found him yet, I'm sure he is alive and outside his teritory (lost).
Since she has checked almost every inch of land in his territory. Which is about 1.5 houses round.
He's usually a home boy and doesn't travel far. Normally the hoomans can look up and see him, he's not normally more than a few paces away from them so this is really strange. We have had a long weekend and we have another public holiday coming up so he may have been scared off the property and taken refuge in someones garage, they may also be on holiday. But I am also thinking he's just lost. She is still walking the streets at all hours even going and talking to the homeless guy that lives under the bridge, but nothing : (

So we have booked an add in our Local free newspaper. It'll go out to 75,000 homes and businesses. The add is costing the hooman over a weeks worth of wages, but he's worth it. If it wasn't for the response I'm getting from catster I probably would have faded out of here (I mean off Catster. I won't stop looking for D until I find him.) So thanks, I didn't realise we had so many friends. For us it's mainly because Mr D is OUR main and most popular cat (from our family) on Catster, and it's hard to face Catster without him.

We are using all the info we can get from all the postings, and using it all like a check list. So thanks heaps for the info.

Luckily we don't have any unwanted critters here, (maybe a hedgehog) but here, alot of cats run free, and they aren't wild cats either (Just indoor outdoor cats) It's usually the New Zealand way. That's probably why it is illegal to declaw cats here. Our house has all it's doors open and there is always a variety of biscuits in four bowls in the kitchen. The doors are often open ( they are open when we are home, it's too hot in here to have them shut. It about 30 deg C today inside our house). So if he's close he'll know where to find the food. It's funny the food is alway there but no other animal / cats will come in to eat it. Only the neigbours one, after they went on holiday and the person who was suppose to feed the cat didn't turn up for 5 days. It was on the 5th day we found him in our house at the food bowls. If we had known about him we would have fed him earlier.

Thanks every one for your support in finding him. We have learnt alot, and I doubt I would have found all the info myself So a big thank you.

On a lighter note I don't know how many have been following the cartoons. They always seem to be based on Mr D. I don't know what I'm going to do there, and I may not post another one for awhile. I do have one drawn up for next week. I did the two cartoons at the same time, before D went missing. I kind of feel stink as it looks like we are picking on him. But as you know in real life we would do anything for him.
Would you like to see the next cartoon early? ... again it's about Valentines day, it's a carry on from the last one.

We want to thank everyone and everyfur for the p-mails, rosettes and the purrs in the group threads Unfortunately the hoomans can't respond to all the posts, they have been spending all their spare time looking for Mr D.
They have been reading all the helpful hints and tips cats have been posting and trying them all.
Luckly it is fairly safe here. We have no large animals roaming the country, no raccoons, Squirrels, snakes, bears, large cats (I mean larger that Mr D) he's almost as big as they get in New Zealand. The main worry is the cars but hopefully he has his head screwed on, He knows to look out for them. If he's trapped in a shed or garage he'll need food and water, but if he's on the run ie, if he was chased and then got lost, he should be ok. He can catch birds if he needs to, and he is wearing a collar. (Oh.. and he is neutered)
The hoomans have just come back from looking under neigbours houses and in sheds. I think he has gone further since the hoomans have checked so many places in his territory, he would be home by now if he was close. (He loves his food)
We have a reserve just below us and the hooman waded through all the bush there, much to the delight of Sam and Raza who tore through the area at a great rate of knots. The hooman was shocked at the speed they moved through the rough terrain. They were in their element and seemed wired. So we are assuming D wasn't there, if he was hopefully they would have indicated it. Silly hooman it was getting dark and she must have not notice the bees nest she grabbed instead of the branch. She got stung a few times and must of carried the bees home because later when she was on the computer she found another bee walking over her. She had been in the bush for some time but came out sortly after disturbing the bees.
The Hoomans have been also been walking the streets at night, evenings and during the day, funny enough they didn't see many cats on the night walks (2am) . But during the day they've seen many beautiful cats out there. We saw so many just sitting on the front lawn or driveways waiting for their hoomans to get home. Luckily the area doesn't have many dogs, at all. We never saw or heard any in our long walks.
We have done the flyers, door knocked, flyers in the shopping centers and in nearby bus shelters. Registered him lost on line, and ordered an add in the local paper. Now she 's off again to all the vet clinics with the flyers.
We'll post again later.
Thanks heaps for all the thoughts and purrs.
He's got to be ok, there are so many purring for him. We are just hoping he'll walk in the door as if nothing has happened.
Thanks again

I last saw my brother on Wed night the 24 Jan 08 when were playing out side. We love it out there, and the hoomans have been having a lot of trouble lately getting us in at night, it's been so warm. We love chasing the bugs, luckily there are none that can harm us ( not like in other countries). The hooman got a message through on the computer from Catster saying Happy Birthday to my bother Mr D and myself since we were born the same day. Actually the hoomans are not quiet sure, but I think I was born just before midnight on the 23 and Mr D 30 mins after on the 24th. They didn't look at the clock at the time as they were to much involved in trying to get us to breathe. Raza, Furmum didn't know what to do, we had the sac around our heads and weren't moving. Anyway back to the story....

She came out to find us to wish us a Happy Birthday and Mr D wasn't there. We usually don't go far so she didn't think much about it.

He still wasn't around when we were called in at 9pm (when it started to get dark) so she had to leave it. We have a cat door and we know how to use it so she assumed he'd come in when he wanted. It's not that she can't find us when it's time to come in, it's when she gets close to us we run a few steps in front of her 'cause we know she wants us to come in and we don't want to.

Anyway I woke them up howling my little head off at 5 am the next morning, I still haven't seen my brother. This is very strange. So the hooman got up to look for him expecting him to just walk around the corner. But no, it's not to be. :(

We live a reasonable distance from the main road and that is really out of our range. The hoomans have walked up and down looking for him just in case and down all the long driveways in case he got lost. But nothing.

D does have a collar on but he's a real scaredy cat when it cames to strangers so he shouldn't have gone in anyones house or car.
Today the hoomans are going to make up some flyers to put in all the letter boxes to see if someone or some cat has seen him. Hopefully we get a response 'cause I miss my "little" brother.

Playing gotcha - the meme game

I have been tagged! That is right I have been tagged by my friend Bambi, to participate in Kazumi Joy's meme.

The rules:
Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Cats who are tagged need to write on their own diary about the seven things and the rules. You need to choose seven cats to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment that they have been tagged and to read your diary.

My seven random facts:

1. I'm just over a year old
2. I'm friendly but run away from strangers
3. I hate been picked up, I seem to be scared of heights as I'm fine when held at low heights, or over a bed.
4. I was born in the house I live in
5. I live with my furmum, brother and an old cat Baltster
6. I love my big puffy cushion
7. I love perfumy smelling things. I try to get the smell all over my coat. Especially fresh washing straight out of the washing machine even though it's still wet.

I tag the following cats on Catster:

Peaches
Loki
Buda
Kitkat
Bastian
Dekan

I hope you will all play, too!
