I have been laying low lately to catch up on my rest and enjoying just hanging out at home with Mom, Dad, and my family.

This week, Mom changed everything.

On Tuesday, I went to a new vet for my nutrition consultation. It wasn’t mandatory that I attend. But it was good for them to see me in person and make an assessment on my weight and muscle tone.

They say I am a 5 out of 10, almost an ideal weight and only mild to moderate muscle loss since my health issues began. Mom says I am sooo skinny. I think she has an inflated view of what a healthy kitty looks like…MOL They reviewed my current diet and gave Mom and Dad a summary of what they feel would work best for me with my health issues.

It is information that Mom knew for the most part. But they really need help to find me a few different diets that will keep me eating.
Even when maybe I don’t feel so good. As I have mentioned before, I get very picky within a few days of a pancreatic flare up. So, having a few options may be helpful.

The problem with me is that I don’t like much cat food. I think I may end up being the the most challenging patient they have ever had.

I did make Dr. Valerie lose her train of thought when I gazed up at her as she was explaining things to Mom and Dad. She had to say, “wow, he is just so handsome”. Mom said, “oh, thank you”. I said, “Yes, yes I am”.

Today, I was hauled off to get my glucose curve. Mom still thinks my levels are always to high. One of my first curves was very good. The last one never dropped to a good range. I will give you an update later. They were very happy to see me and told me what a good boy I am.
They call me their rock star…

Mom just rolls her eyes. She knows how that goes to my head and I become sooo difficult at home. She said if I was a female, I would be the definition of a Diva.

I like rock star. Definitely works for me!!!

I am going to start feeling like a superstar with all this special treatment.

I have been doing okay with managing my pancreatitis and diabetes. I have had a few bumps in the road over the last few months. But I always bounce back pretty quickly.

Because I have a terrible habit of not liking really any cat food, other then my Felidae and Weruva Paw Licken Chicken, which I gobble up like crazy. But it makes my poos soft and stinky. My vet has suggested that Mom and Dad consult a dietitian to help them manage my diet which could really help to keep me feeling better. Mom is very open to that and could use the advice to get me on the road to better nutrition and health.

Mom finally asked for my vet to give me a B-12 shot today which was suggested a while ago by Alex Angel’s Mom, Lisa. I also got some fluids which always make me feel better.

Has anyone had any experience with a dietitian?

Just a quick update on me

My pee pee test showed that I have enough of an elevated level of raw bacteria in there to get that antibiotic shot…sounds like something you would get in a garbage dump…MOL.

So, I am going back tomorrow to have the shot of antibiotic and then a re-check in 14 days. Much easier then the "pink" stuff for 10 days. Yuck ! One and done is the way to go Mom says.

I am very active, eating, and playing with Beak. Mom keeps moving him on me so that if I play with him, she knows. She put him in the living room yesterday. I brought him back into the kitchen this morning after my breakfast.

My vet visit was more like an extended stay.

I was dropped off at 8am and stayed until 5pm.

My weight was 11 lbs 4 oz..so no weight loss since my last curve.

I had 3 checks done. My curve was not as satisfactory as the last time. I didn't get into the 100s this time.

It stayed somewhat high through out the day. But the vet lady still wants to be sure that there is no infection before she kicks up the dose of insulin because we can't have it be too much or my glucose level can then get too low. That is bad...very bad.

Stress could also have kept my numbers high. I was pretty stressed out today. I didn't move at all. I didn't want to eat, I didn't want to use the litterbox. I just sit..in the same spot all day long. The vet lady feels bad for me that I am not happy during my stay.

Mom got a urine sample from me when I got home and we will send it for analysis to see if I have that infection thing.

But for now, I am doing okay. Ate good when I got home and now resting next to Mom. It was a long tiring day.

Thanks friends for the purrs...it's working for sure.

Mom was on vacation last week which was a good thing.
I couldn't let her have a completely relaxed no stress vacation.

Wednesday, I was fine. Thursday morning she woke up to feed me before my insulin injection and I didn't come running when she turned on the microwave to warm up my food. That never happens..unless...

She went to ask Dad if he had already fed me. Which he did not.

She found me sleeping on the floor near Grandma. I had glossy eyes, and looked..well..like crap! She offered me some food which I just ignored.
That scares Mommy because it is important that I eat before I get my insulin.

Knowing that if I was to get dehydrated, it would complicate things, she was ready to call my vet as soon as they opened at 8am. They had her bring me in right away.

It was a horrible pouring rain kind of day so we both got soaking wet.

They took my temperature which was a little high at 103.6. They gave me some fluids, antibiotics, and took a urine sample and sent me home. They asked if she could bring me back later that day for a recheck. Of course she could, she was on vacation and at my disposal for the day..MOL

They felt that if it was an infection of some kind, I should start to perk up with the treatment they gave me in the morning.

As the day went on, I did show some improvement. Mom found me sleeping on my back at one point and I gave her a big yawn when she started talking to me asking if I felt better. Indifference is always a good sign..

That didn’t stop my second trip to the vet at 2pm. Although I had showed improvement, they took some blood. The urine sample was clear and showed nothing concerning.
My temperature had returned to normal by then. They gave me a long lasting antibiotic shot so that Mom and Dad didn’t have to squirt Clavamox into me which doesn’t go well. Mom looks so pretty in pink..hee hee

They covered my carrier with plastic (so I wouldn’t get wet), and sent me home.

As the day went on, I looked better and more like myself. By night time, the Biggle’s bounce was back and I was interested in food again and drinking water on my own.

The blood sample showed some bacteria which could mean some type of infection or my pancreatitis could have flared up. There were signs in the blood work of that as well.

I am doing much better and pretty much back to normal. I will go back in about 10 days for a follow up.

So I tried to write a diary today to update everyone on my week and how I have been feeling. The fleas bit me…those dang fleas.

I also want to thank my friends who have paw mailed me to ask how I am doing and leaving me sweet comments.

Mom had a lot to do when she got home, so we are a little delayed in re-writing it.

My week did not go as I would have liked it to. After I came home from the hospital, I had litter box issues…

My own version of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Too soft, too hard…and then aaaaa..just right.

I am feeling okay now. Eating and active.

I am not sure I like having to sleep with Mom and Dad. I only like to do that when I want to stay. Not when they lock me in.
hmmmph...But Mom wants to watch me.

I had to visit my local vet for my first glucose curve yesterday. Mom and Dad fed me, gave me my insulin injection, and put me in “the box”.

Although the accommodations were much better then the other place, as I had the VIP suite for the day, the doctor’s office. I was not happy with the pin pricks every 4 hours.

My numbers fluctuated. The morning draw had me at a little below 200. The noon reading was in the 140’s. Which is a very good glucose reading. The afternoon reading was in the 200’s and then at 6pm, I was above 300 again. Justifying my need for that second injection each day of insulin.

Although I was all over the place, the doctor thinks the 1 unit of glucose every 12 hours is what I should stay at. I have to go back in 3 weeks to test my urine and for another curve. DRAT !!

I did lose more weight. I am 10 lbs. But they said I was overweight at 13 lbs..so maybe a few pounds won't hurt me in the long run.

Hoping everyone has a super weekend and enjoys the last bit of warm weather and sunshine if you are blessed to have some where you live.

Hi Everyone

I am home from that horrible horrible place.

Mom says they are so good to me and without them I wouldn't be here. The accomodations are tiny, the food is horrible, and I don't like needles. (hmmm, that may be a problem)

Mom and Dad came to see me last night. I was doing well. But hadn't eaten. Mom brought me a freshly boiled chicken breast. I ate the whole thing. I was so hungry, I almost took her fingers off.

I was a good boy today and ate some of my kibble that she brought (the official name for what we call hard cookies), and licked tuna juice.

So, I am just going to chillax tonight with my family and get some much needed rest on Mom and Dad's bed.

You know, I could hear loud purrs and fluttering sounds..But there were only a few kitties near me. Then I realized it was my wonderful Catster family purring and the angel's wings as they flew above me, keeping me safe.

I can't thank you enough.

Until tomorrow, sleep well everyone. I know I will!!

Biggles glucose levels have come down over night and he is alert. Vitals are still good and temp is normal, too. She thinks this may be an easily resolved case.

Bigs was sitting on her lap and not very happy with his kitty neighbor. Tail was poofed and growled. That means the energy level is up. We are so happy to hear that.

Best case is that he can come home tomorrow.

Hopefully the good news continues.

The power of the paw is working again.

Hi Everyone
Mom here

As some of you know, Biggles is back in the hospital.

He has developed diabetes due to his Pancreatitis.

He had been doing great. Eating well and the sparkle was back in his eyes. When I come home from work, he was once again one of my first greeters. I loved to see that.

But, he had lost almost 2 lbs since August.

He is being monitored and they are working to balance his sugar levels.

We are touched by the support and purrs that you have sent us today and I know he can feel all his guardian angels keeping him warm and safe.

I hope to have some good news in the morning. His doctor said that he looked better then when we brought him
in for the Pancreatitis.

Keep purring for my Bigs. We know it works.

But not a good medicine giver...

The incident I spoke of in my diary today..

Well, Mom has always administered medicine.

She may not get it the first time. But she always
accomplishes the mission.

Dad had to give me my appetite stimulant yesterday morning and was feeling that he did a great job because I didn't drool as much.

The key he tells Mom "put it farther back in his throat".

Mom said that if he felt he did a good job, she would be willing to hold me and let him do that part.

Well, Dad put the syringe too far back and it triggered my gag reflex. BARF...

All the food I had eaten came up. If you are worried I am not eating enough..Don't be..I am eating.

Dad is no longer allowed to administer medicine..MOL

Wow, this has been quite a few weeks for me.

Thank you so much Catster HQ for choosing my diary today and to my friends for
the sweet comments and rosettes that you have already sent me.

I am happy to report that I am feeling more like myself everyday and eating
very much on my own now.

I am becoming more and more resistant to Mom and Dad when they give me my medicines and some of that prescription food..YUCK!!

We had a little mishap last night. But I will share that later. Nothing to be concerned about though.

Hope everyone has a great Friday leading up to the Labor Day Holiday weekend

Hi Everyone !!

I am home. I am a bit confused with the goings on.

But some good news is that as soon as I got home I decided that I wanted to eat some chicken. I also just had a few bites of my food. It just took being in my home.

My doctor said let me eat anything right now to get me interested in food again.

I also wacked around my best buddy Beak a little bit. Mom took a photo of course.

Mom and I will thank each and everyone of you for your support that you showed to us during the terribly difficult week.

XOXO

Mom here

We finally got our power back about 1 hr ago. It was out for 12 hours. We were hearing it may take a week.

We couldn't go see Biggles due to closed roads around the state.
The electricity was out at the hospital. But they still said they would accomodate us and find someplace for us to spend some time with him, if we came down.

It just wasn't safe to travel today.

We did call tonight to get an update and Biggles continues to keep the food down they are giving him. Temp is still normal and the doctor says that he is one of their most stable patients. They seem pleased with how he is doing.

I will go see him tomorrow and bring more chicken. I hope he will eat for me now that he is more stable.

Thank you again for all the purrs. Keeping paws crossed that the good news continues.

Mom here to give you an update on Biggles

He had his ultrasound this morning and it confirmed a severe case of Pancreatitis.

He is not eating yet and not wanting to use the litter box although his bladder is swollen.

He seemed happy to see us and purred a bit at first when we did our greet head bonks.

They have him on pain killers and a very scaled back fluid therapy due to the heart disease they detected. Too many fluids could cause him to go into cardiac arrest.

What would normally help him to feel better faster can't be given to quickly or will make the situation worse. Not giving him enough will cause dehydration.

The first time in his life someone has said something about a heart condition.

They are going to try an appetite stimulant to see if he will eat the chicken I brought him. He wanted it today, but really just rubbed against it. Paws crossed that helps.

If they can not get him to eat, a feeding tube is next to get him the nutrients that he needs to try and fight this battle.

Hopefully, Irene will not affect us for too long and I can get to see him on Monday. I don't think we will get to go tomorrow.

I hope to have better news next time.

We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from our
dear Catster friends. Thank you.

Today, I was still the same. Mopey and not really interested in too much.

I went in for my recheck with my regular vet. My blood work was good. Kidney and liver counts were fine. My blood sugar values were elevated. They could see high fat count too.

I had a fever of 103 and 103.3 today. Yesterday, I did not have a fever.

I stayed with them for the morning until Mom could come and get me. They gave me fluids and antibiotics.

They noted that I have a galloping heart beat. I am not a horse..MOL
I shouldn’t have that. That’s something new. I just had my annual check up in February and no mention of that before. They don’t think that is contributing to my issues currently.

Mom and Dad then took me to the specialists for my ultrasound.

The doctor at Ocean State agrees that signs point to Pancreatitis. But the ultrasound is important to rule out anything else. Mom hopes it isn’t the “anything else”. We won’t even say the word.

That will be done in the morning.

They admitted me for more fluids and some pain medication since I did growl when the nice doctor squeezed my tummy. She said that would help me be more comfortable.

Mom just called to check on me. I am resting comfortably and haven’t vomited at all.

Thank you for all of your purrs and POP. I am feeling your love and support.

Mom and I am sending purrs to all of our east coast friends. Stay safe.

XOXO

Hi my friends

I am so thankful (Mom too) for your purrs. I am sleeping at grandmas right now so I will let Mom take over..

Can you tell Mom to stop staring at me ? That's not going to make me better.

Mom here,

Biggles spent the day with his vet. The x-ray did not show anything conclusive or obvious. Although his stomach lining does look inflamed. No urinary blockage was detected.

We are waiting for the bloodwork up results and will go back tomorrow morning for a re-check.

It may be pancreatitis from too much fat in his diet.

If the blood work does not tell us anything, we will go to Ocean State Vets which has all the specialists for an ultrasound.

He was given subcutaneous fluids, some antibiotics, and some neausea medicine.

When he got home he jumped up on the counter twice and wanted his food. But we can only give him the perscription diet which we know he will not eat. It is soft food. Biggles doesn't eat soft food. Always been a hard food eater.

He seemed to have a bit more energy when he first got home. But I think the day wore him out. He is sleeping near his grandma and no brothers or sisters are allowed over tonight so that he can get some peace.

Thank you so much for your support. We will keep you posted.

The last week I have not been quite myself. I have been eating and drinking and still my loveable self up until last night.

I pooped outside of the box, peed on the floor, and threw up a few times after only eating a little.

This morning I didn’t want to eat. I just laid near the water fountain. Not one of my fav places to hang out.

I am usually begging to go to my grandma’s house first thing in the morning (she has an in-law appt attached to Mom and Dad’s home). But I just moseyed over there after Mom prodded me to follow her.

I was quite feisty when I was put in the carrier for my ride to the Vets. So, I am not completely listless or out of energy.

They are keeping me for the day and doing blood work and x-rays. They think I may be developing kidney disease.

I’d appreciate it a lot if you would send me some positive purrs right now.

Headbonks,

Buddy and I went to the vets on Friday night. We both cried like babies. But Mom said I was more brave.

Buddy was yowling and trying to roll out of the carrier.

So much for the alpha male. What a wuss!!

I mostly just sat and stared out the door of my carrier with only a few louder cries. I am an office favorite and always get the ladies to come into my room to see me.

But, they still have the red tag on my file from when I was a wild young stallion. I was no bigger then Moms hand and they needed "the gloves" to handle me. They took out the gloves and Mom yelled "No, not on my sweet boy". Everyone agreed I have mellowed in my old age. The tag was removed.

In addition to our rabies shots and lots of petting from the staff, we were sent home with a clean bill of health and the diagnoses of "inappropriate elimination". WHAT????

Good call Mercedes...we are bad to the bone and want to show who is boss. At least we are doing it only in the litter box and not around the house..at least that is what Mom thinks.
Dad would be very very mad if he found out otherwise.

Dad devised a new litter box idea. He bought a few large storage containers and cut a hole right in the center. This gives us plenty of space to move around (the smaller enclosed boxes are to small for our long (yes, long, that's it) frames.
Mom bought some fleece pet beds for the top. So, we can sleep on top when not doing our business. If we want to lift our butts in the box, it will stay inside and not go all over the wall.

We were very curious about the boxes and used them right away.

So, Dad says we can stay..Mom just rolls her eyes...

Thanks everyone for the pawsative thoughts.

Oh Hazel Lucy, I am feeling your pain (or at least discomfort)

Yesterday, I woke up and I couldn’t get my newmies to cooperate.

I cried and cried. Mommy was so scared for me since it sounded like I was in terrible pain. I was calling my newmies.

“Newmies where are you? Come out and play”.

I ran to all of the litter boxes and tried. But nothing. Finally I got 2 little hard newmies to come visit. That was it.

Mommy grabbed the laxatone and grass gel and made me eat some. The grass gel works on hairballs, too. I do like it. But I was feeling bad so I ran away. She caught me…

It worked, within 1 hr I had a wonderful newmie. But, I had it on the basement floor.

For my efforts, I will be seeing the vet on Friday afternoon. Buddy will be joining me since he has been sticking his bummy in the air when he goes tinkle.

Daddy made some new boxes for us from storage containers with high sides. But Mom wants to be sure nothing is wrong physically with him.

We both had crystals in our urine before. So, he could be straining again.

Please wish us both luck…

I was the first in line for annual check ups and shots.

So, yesterday Mom brought up the carrier. Of course, Pinkie jumped right in. She loves to go for rides in cars and more often then not, she is going to a fun place (grandmas) and not the vets. She knows if she has guessed wrong when Mom takes a left and not a right at the end of our street.

I, on the other hand, know any ride is going to end up bad for me.

Mom picked Pinkie up and put her on the floor and next thing I knew my head was being pushed down and I was being zipped up.

I cried to no avail.

So, we had a new vet yesterday. She said that I weigh about 13 lbs and that is a bit high. But I am a big long boy, so I still looked okay.

She tried very hard to look into my mouth. She asked me nicely
if she could take a peak? I said NO. Mom said, she would only ask nice a few times, and then do that vet thing that they do..know just where to put their fingers and hold your head.
But I started my side wiggle twist move.

She thought I was laying down to relax. Mom started laughing because she knows when I lay down on my side, I am trying to
get my back feet ready for the bunny kick.

That is when she said I am very good at evasive maneuvers.

As a reward for that, she took my temperature. I didn't like that much either.

Then to top it off, she gave me a shot in my back. That kinda hurt.

But I am a brave orange boy. I got to sleep with Mom and Dad last night because I was such a good boy. I think Mom felt a little bad and I used that to my advantage.

I better not be going back anytime soon. I may not be as cooperative.

Its been a fun few days at our home. We all have noticed the little stuffed animal looking thing that Mommy and Daddy has been holding and carrying around.

It moves.....and growls and hisses when we get too close. Then Mommy and Daddy tell it that we are not going to hurt her and say how cute she is and that she is soo little and we are sooo big.

Well, Mom and Dad had the talk. Although they would love to keep her, they know that it is alot of work and...there are already 7 of us.....they did the right thing and saved a baby. They are giving it a chance at having a good life.

So, Mommy’s friend at work asked his girlfriend and they would love to adopt our little friend. Tonight Mommy will bring her to their house. They have a kitty already and hopefully things work out. If not, Mommy and Daddy said they will take back the little whippersnapper. I actually think she is pretty cool. I want to smell her real close. But Mom says she hasn’t had her tests or shots yet, so we have to be careful.

We hope they give her a page on Catster so that we can see her grow up and still be
friends.

Maybe this is the appropriate name for our little friend.

Grandma saw the kitty family across the street today. The Mom cat and 2 kittens playing under a car. There has always been a stray cat or two in that neighbor’s yard. They have a very long driveway and a large back yard and you never see them come close to the road.

Little Lucky must have crossed the busy busy street and made its way under the bush in Grandma’s yard. A very “Lucky” kitty cat.

Well, it started the same as it always does..I woke up demanded food and then
Mom and Dad went to work. Mom came home and fed us. Then it all went crazy.
Grandma called all frantic and told Mom there was a meowing outside her window all day. Mom now needs to make a desision..let it stay there or save it.

Fast forward 3 hours- There is a pet carrier sitting in my living room with a little tiny meowy thing that looks like me. I gave it a look..but now I am tired and need a nap

Don't get excited about seeing a new member of the Bunch. Dad has already called our lady friend that rescues kitties. She is helping to find "mini me" a new permanent home.

I'll keep you posted.
