Dad weighed me & Sobe on the bathroom scale...Sobe weighed 14 lbs(I would have guessed 25) & I weighed in at 12 lbs....Dad said I'm getting "udders"....rubbish. I was never skinny, even as a stray....I knew how to take care of myself, between scrounging & hunting,I was,if not well fed,at least not starving....anyway,not bad for a cat who was dying from crystals in his urine almost a year ago! Thanks again to all who helped save me!

I didn't even notice that my birthday/Gotcha day was the other day....no one really knows when I was born, let alone how old I am,but I do know that I have been an indoors cat for 1 year now....I like the eating every day thing, but I do miss eating the occasional squirrel....mmmm....squirrel....

I suppose all these other cats are OK too....in moderation,as long as they don't mess with me....

This is Tux speaking. Ever since we were born here, things have been pretty nice. Except for that crabby Uncle Tigger & Auntie Cali, everyone is nice to us. But today, the Dad Guy(that's what Uncle Sobe calls him) said he's been putting it off long enough, not wanting to scare us. What could that mean? Well,I'll tell you what it meant.....

He got this thing out of the corner,we've seen it before & it never seemed dangerous. But today it turned into a horrible screaming monster, sucking up everything in it's path! And Dad Guy was holding it by the tail! We ran into the front room to the comfort of Uncle Sobe, but he was scared too!!! This was bad juju!!!

Dad Guy sprinkled some nice smelling stuff from a can onto the rugs before the monster started sucking them. Must have been some kind of monster food. It does smell better now. We are all pretty good about using the litterboxes, but accidents will happen.

The sucking monster seems to have gone back to sleep,so we are checking out Kitty City to make sure it didn't eat any of our toys. I have to go play now.

The good is that the little black kitten has finally accepted that I'm not a huge scary monster. She comes up & rubs on my legs, lets me pet her(usually),& let me pick her up without too much of a struggle. It happened pretty suddenly,as if she just decided it. I opened the door to see if she wanted to come in,she came right up to the door. Of course Sobe was there(& made NO attempt to get outside,he knows where the easy life is)to check her out. They sniffed each other for a good while,Sobe is a kitten magnet for some reason. An orange kitten came up to see what was so interesting,he tried to play with her,but she wasn't quite ready for that yet. I think if Sobe weren't there she would have come right in.

The bad is I haven't seen Bent Ear yet today. He has missed breakfast before, but not often. He's been spending a lot of time away lately. I hope he's OK.

I think that they have the diary fleas gone now,so.....

I saw the little black kitten playing with sticks & bits of gravel so I gave her a couple of our many toy mice. She plays with them, throwing them all around! She let me touch her while she was eating today, but not afterward.

I was sweeping & mopping today,I haven't vacuumed since the kittens were born, not wanting to freak them out. I stuck a ruler under the TV stand to see what was under there. 3 crinkly balls,a puff ball & a little grey mouse! I wondered where those crinkly balls went! There's still a white mouse missing. All but 1 of the crinkly balls are missing already.

Tux has a new trick. He climbs up the scratching post & then jumps up on the fan. I move the post,he puts it back. I tried to get a picture, but he jumped to the floor, about 3 1/2 feet!

Last night the kittens were having their usual right-before-bedtime playtime. But this time,Mouse joined in! It was the first time I ever saw Mouse play! She's acted like she wanted to a couple of times, but never actually played.

I saw Jethro again the other day. He was still in good shape as far as mange is concerned, but he was limping. Not really a bad limp, just like a sore leg or foot. I suppose that means that he's well enough to get into trouble.

The little black kitten is a regular here now. I think she's living under the trailer. She's still afraid of Humans. She was pushing Bent Ear away from his food this evening. B.E. was making pretend bites at her head, but didn't actually bite her. He didn't know what to make of this street urchin stealing his food. I gave him a separate bowl of food. She ate what was left of that, too.

Tux may be the runt of the litter, but he's the first to eat solid food! While Mouse was eating some kibble this afternoon,Little Mo was watching & making chewing motions with her mouth, like she was learning to eat. Tux just smelled the kibble & dived in! This evening,he ate a bunch of wet food, while the others just watched or chewed the edge of the dish! I set up a litter pan for them with a shallow tray & some clay(non-clumping) litter. Tux also learned the difference between litter & food, the hard way! YUCK-SPITOOIE!

That's nothing new,so I didn't look further. After a minute or so,I did look down,& the Tuxedo kitten was walking about, with Sobe sniffing him! I didn't know what Sobe had in mind,so I picked up the kitten & showed it to Sobe. He sniffed & licked him! I showed a kitten to Tigger over the weekend,& he growled & hissed at it! I haven't had a chance to spend much time with the kittens because of the long hours I've been working since Friday, but I'm taking the day off today. Little Mo hissed & spat at me,Tux (BTW,definitely a Boycat)hissed a little, but the 3 Amigos were more interested in chewing on my fingers. They're teething,so I looked in the toybox & found some toys with small chewable arms & legs. They're still learning to walk & they fall over a lot while trying to play.

Sobe has been terrorizing Tigger & Cali, but Mouse has put the boot on the other foot, because if Sobe gets too close to her or the kittens, she lays the smack down upon him! Maybe now he knows what it feels like! She had him cowering in the hallway last night! She steals his food & beats him up!

As I was leaving to go to the temp labor place this morning,I saw B.E. eating something in the carport. I looked,& he had caught a small rat(about the size of a large hamster)& he was eating it! I used to have a cat named Baxter who would catch & eat(except for the hind legs & tail)very large rats. But when I got back(no work for me today),I found no trace of the Late Rat. B.E. is a Mighty Hunter! That's the first rat I've seen here, but where you have people, you pretty much have rats, you just don't always see them if there aren't a whole lot of them. So there's one less rat thanks to B.E.!

I looked at the kittens this morning& petted them to get them socialized with humans from the get-go so that they'll be more adoptable. I picked up the calico,& she hissed at me,little baby hisses! 2 day old kittens can hiss! Mouse trusts me with her babies, but she doesn't trust Sobe. He had to see what was happening & crawled under the bed. Mouse noticed & hissed at him. I built her a fort out of blanket bags & linen bags so that Sobe can't easily get to her.

Jethro is really getting picky. I thought he would like salmon cat food for dinner. Oh no. He wanted B.E.'s chicken & tuna. But B.E. didn't want salmon either. So I opened a chunky chicken in gravy. Nope, didn't want that either. So I mixed the salmon & the chicken & gravy. He finally ate that. These strays are getting picky!

When I gave B.E.,Mouse & Jethro breakfast this morning,I used a big soup can size can of food instead of 3 of the little hockey puck sized cans. Same brand, same flavor as thev've eaten before. All 3,even Jethro, turned up their noses at it! Mouse ate a little,& someone(probably Jethro) ate most of a bowlful while I was gone, but 2 bowls sit untouched! But I got another $20 worth of little cans,so maybe dinner will be better received.

I tried to get the Revolution for Jethro at my old vet,but they said that Cali & Tigger would have to come in for their checkups & shots first($159 apiece),& I simply can't afford that right now. So I went to the vet that checked Sobe for FiV & FeL before I adopted him. I explained the situation,& they sold me a dose of Revolution($17). I asked about the effectiveness of Revolution on mange,& they confirmed it. The other vet was simply looking for $$$. Or being over officious. So now I have a new vet. Maybe I can even get them to help me out with the strays....

Anyway,Jethro gets his first dose of Revolution at dinnertime!

He doesn't like me messing with it,but if I grab him by the scruff of the neck he lets me do it. Mouse has had a swollen eye. It isn't infected, just swollen, like a black eye. It was really windy last week,so I thought that maybe she got some sand or something in her eye. I'm not so sure now because......

This morning after I gave Mouse & B.E. their breakfast,I was getting some water in a watering can for the Catnip plant, which was looking a bit wilted. The neighbor's cat came around the corner, looked at me,looked at Mouse & got really interested. Suddenly,Mouse leapt up & chased him away at full speed! So maybe he gave Mouse her sore eye? She wasn't having him in HER yard for some reason! Bent Ear just looked up from his breakfast in surprise.

Mouse wouldn't eat her breakfast yesterday. I didn't see her all day. This morning she showed up for breakfast, slimmer,& she wolfed down an entire can of food. Her bottom was wet. She had had her kittens sometime yesterday. I didn't bring her inside to have them because Sobe has a respiratory infection(probably herpes) that I didn't want to expose them to. I followed her after she ate & washed herself & got some petting. She apparently had them in a hammock-like piece of fabric hanging down from beneath the trailer. After the dew burns off,I'll crawl under there to see how many there are.
Anybody want a kitten?

When I got back from the store this morning(stocking up on cat food again),there was a new stray sniffing at the food dishes. It was a big Siamese! Maybe Sobe's dad? I've seen little Meezers running around here, but this big one is new. Bent Ear was gone during his visit, but Mouse was up in the chair, watching as he ran off. Maybe Bent Ear is showing some discretion with her fighting now.

We had severe T-storms last night, but everyone is OK. Poor Bent Ear was sitting on the porch, trying to weather it out. I tried to get her to come inside, but she's still afraid. Mouse has a secret hiding place, because she always comes back out after storms, perfectly dry. She must be small enough for some safe hidey-hole under the trailer.

This morning we had severe thunderstorms,& when I went out to give Bent Ear breakfast, she seemed scared. Mouse didn't even eat breakfast, she walked past & hid somewhere under the trailer. After breakfast,Bent Ear was on the porch,so I went out & sat by her. She was scared of the thunder,so I sat her on my lap & petted her until she felt better. She was actually giving me headbonks. But then she started biting & swatting at me(bites:soft, swats:HARD!),so I picked her up & took her inside where it was warm & dry. Cali was out of bed & looking at her,& Tigger & Sobe came out of the bedroom to see what was up,so Bent Ear got scared. I let her go back outside,& she hid somewhere. After it stopped thundering in the afternoon, both Bent Ear & Mouse came out for lunch. Bent Ear was a bit wet,but Mouse was totally dry.

Bent Ear had breakfast here this morning, then went on her rounds. She came back a little after 2:00 PM,all dirty & with her bent ear wounded. She must have been fighting again. She let me clean her ear with a warm wet washcloth, even on the inside,& she let me put some Bacitracin on it. Then she had her lunch, cleaned herself up,& felt good enough to roll around on the patio. She even played with me when I rubbed her belly.

Meanwhile,it's supposed to be near freezing tonight,so I piled all the tropical plants by the heating duct under the trailer. I took the Catnip plant in its basket down, tearing a leaf in the process. A little while later I saw The Orange Chicken Cat rubbing his face in the 'Nip plant! I went out & finished covering the plants with sheets. Only Chicken & Young Nuk seem to care anything for Catnip.

Bent Ear was sleeping on the porch when I got up this morning,& she stayed all day, eating(with Mouse) 3 cans of food & the leftovers from Tig,Cali & Sobe's dinner from last night. It was a rainy day,so I spent a lot of time under the patio roof petting her. She has a habit of biting while being petted. She bit me on the back of the arm,& grabbed the other shirt sleeve & pulled on it. She finally let me look at her mouth,& she has a broken right upper fang. It doesn't appear to bother her eating(she will eat dry food if necessary,& crunchy kitty treats under all circumstances). It's on the same side as her bent ear. I hope both injuries weren't from someone hitting her on that side of the head. She trusts me now though,& even lets me pick her up now.

Young Nuk came by while I was planting some new plants in the front garden(Lowes had frost damaged plants on clearance!). He kept running away from the food dish whenever I walked by to get something. I was trying to make friends with him when a dog went running by & Young Nuk ran off. I hope he doesn't associate me with the dog.

Bent Ear came by just before dark. I gave her a can of food & we spent a while out on the patio petting. She got frisky & bit me on the little finger! Not hard,no blood, just a play nip. She's meowing more,& a couple of her meows sounded like questions, which I thought meant "More food?",so I gave her some more food,& she ate it. She looks rough on the outside, but she seems to be a nice cat.

Twice now Mouse has been on the porch & stuck her head inside the trailer. Each time something scared her & she ran away. When Sobe was at this stage, the only problem with him was keeping him from rushing in before I had him checked for FIV/FeLV. Mouse is still afraid of strange noises, while the only thing Sobe fears is an empty belly!

My little page of strays won Diary of the Day? Cool. Mouse was here all morning, but I think is under the trailer now. I cut back the catnip plant & boiled the stems & dried leaves to make a tea. I gave some to my cats, but they wouldn't drink it. So I put the boiled leaves & stems outside for the strays.
Bent Ear,the battle scarred icon of Tomcats in the trailer park,is....A GIRL!!!!!! He...I mean SHE let me pet her like a housecat this morning,so I got a good close-up look at her,&...SHE'S a HER!!!! Then why were Sobe & her(she?)having epic battles when I first met them? Why is she so battle scarred? I hate to think that people did it. I know which scars Sobe gave her. She cringed a little when I raised a hand to pet her, like she thought I was going to hit her,& she took a swing at me when I lifted her tail to get a good look at her "grapelessness" (it was a full power haymaker, too). Anyway,Bent Ear is a girl,& we're friends now. This throws the whole Tomcat hierarchy into chaos!

He meowed at me & let me touch him for the first time. I went in & got a can of Salmon cat food for them. They actually shared it!

Schizo the Mad Orange Fluff Cat came by later. I brought him out a can of chicken flavored food. As usual, she was sending mixed signals, actually hissing at me while rubbing on my legs. She ate the food,& ran away. I say she,but there's too much fluff to see for sure.
