OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - CINCINNATI, June 9, 2010 – The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) (NYSE:PG) is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its Iams canned cat food in North America as a precautionary measure. Diagnostic testing indicated that the product may contain insufficient levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), which is essential for cats. Cats that were fed these canned products as their only food are at greater risk for developing signs of thiamine deficiency.

The following Iams canned cat foods are included:

Product Name

Date on Bottom of Can
Iams ProActive Health canned Cat and Kitten Food – all varieties of 3 oz & 5.5 oz cans 09/2011 to 06/2012

This recall is limited to only Iams canned cat food distributed in North America. No other Iams pet food is involved.

Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, signs may include ventroflexion (downward curving) of the neck, wobbly gait, falling, circling and seizures. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat is displaying any of these signs. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.

Consumers who have purchased canned cat food with these codes should discard it. For further information or a product refund call P&G toll-free at 877-340-8826 (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to

Sugar Lynx has found himself a nice home with a woman in Wisconsin. They drove three hours south from Juneau, WI to pick him up on Saturday. That is a long way to drive to pick up a new best friend so we are fairly confident that he will be loved and treated with respect.
The couple is very sweet. The woman, Karie, likes cats more than her husband but that's often the case.
We are very sad to see him go but it is for the best.
Karie and her husband have another kitty that is half persian and half Ragdoll. They should be good friends very soon.
We asked Karie to sign a rehoming contract to make sure we had a legal hold to Sugar Lynx in case she needs to find him a new home or doesn't treat him like the Kitty Prince he is. That is very important because he is too sweet to be treated badly.
We will update you with news as Karie gives us news about how he is adjusting to his forever home :)

My new Momma found me and although she is quite allergic to my long hair (something that will probably either get worse or she will get used to) she has decided to keep me for the time being.

A new home may be in order but for now she is getting to know me. I am quite the mystery man but here's what she found out so far.

Momma found me in the trash. She doesn't know if the people were moving or what their "Excuse" was but there was a large carrying case, two ceramic bowls, a big blanket, and little ol' me.

She was servicing a property at work, a subdivision, and low and behold --Kitty. She walked passed with the dogs she works with and there was a noise from the box. She put the dogs away in their crates in the car and walked over to check out the noise. It wasn't a kitty noise just a something is over there noise. In the crate under part of the blankie was me. Moving the blanket caused a bit of an odor to prance around the air. Feces rolled off of parts of the blanket. I looked pretty normal but I was very cold. She hesitantly reached in and pet me and all she felt was bone and fur. The food bowls were empty and I needed help.

Momma called Dad to see what she should do, which is the right thing to do when you have other people involved in your life, and he didn't answer his phone. This meant only one thing...Moo-ve over for a house guest :)

When Momma got home she took me to a small room filled with clean laundry needing to be folded, mismatched furniture, some little critters, and a computer. She closed the door and went to let the dogs out for a potty break. During the potty break she brought me into her arms and felt the full scale of skeleton. Very little meat & muscle on my thighs and arms. Every distinguishable bone (for a woman with no anatomy training what-so-ever) was easy to feel. The spine, ribs, shoulder blades and hip bones were the most disturbing. You could not tell from a distance because of the 2-4 inch long fur.

When the potty break was over she put me back in my crate and brought the pups in to meet me. First she brought Ruby. Ruby has had the most experience with cats. I got to come out and meet her quickly. I rubbed up against her and we were pals. Then Ruby was escorted out and Duke was waiting at the door -chomping at the bit to see what he was missing...he could smell me already and wanted to investigate in the worst way.

Momma was iffy...as she always is when introducing a new pet to Duke. Duke has caught and eaten animals like rabbits, squirrels, opossums, and rats. Duke has never hurt a cat but he does have an obvious prey drive that has to be taken into account. Momma let him sniff the carrier and he was very interested...of course. She gave some calming signals to let him know that the alpha female knew what was going on and everything was alright in her book. Then she picked me up out of the carrier. She let him sniff me. Duke will occasionally snap at a dangling garter snake thinking Momma is handing out a treat for consuming so this is another test. All went well on the kitty front :) Next Momma put me on the ground. I am a smart kitty and don't run around Doggies. I know that running induces prey response and prey response sometimes confuses doggies into thinking non-food items are in fact on the menu. I didn't run and Duke knew I was not food. Duke did try to groom my fur like doggies do…tight closed mouth nibbling at the fur. Momma was watching and reads canine body language pretty well so she can tell pretty quick if things look like they may go south. No inappropriate body language. My fur got a little sloppy with Duke saliva but nothing I couldn't handle. Then I rolled on my back to show Duke I do not plan on taking his spot in rank and he accepted me as a member of the non-food group...and a guest, if not member of the family.

I hear there is a kitty residing somewhere around here but since I have now only been here a week I am still in quarantine. Momma has to take me to the vet to make sure I do not have FIV or any other kitty transferable problems. My litter box is a tin often used to bake turkey. This way the tin can be tossed out if I am sick. The dogs cannot catch Kitty Sicknesses. I do not have kennel cough or Rabies (the dogs and Cat are protected by vaccines for these any way).

I have a collar on with an old rabies tag dated 2004 which makes me at least 6 years old. The collar also has a name on it. The name is Sugarlumps and a message "Call mom @ ___-___-____" When New Momma called she got nothing. No message machine or anything. She will call again. Since the tag is old...assuming of course...like the rabies tag, the person could have been a different person than the person who tossed me out.

My name change---Guess you’re wondering if you have a name why they would change it. Well, first of all...my new Momma thought that my old name was a stinky one, but I am about 6 years old and therefore it may be hard for me to learn a new name. So, Momma's been calling me Sugar. Yesterday she realized I was looking a lot like a specific Canada Lynx she knows at the Exotic Animal Rescue she volunteers for so she started calling me Sugar Lynx. It sounds similar to Sugarlumps and since I am sweet and Lynx-like in looks the name kind of fits. Odd although it is...it cannot contend with the name Sugarlumps on the weird-o scale.

That's a little about me. Below are some quick facts about me and my personality.

I like to sleep all day and Mew all night...although I don't mew loudly so unless the people are already awake I do not bother them.

I like to lie next to the dogs and tickle them with my tail or play footsie with them until they are so bothered they get up and find new sitting quarters.

The computer chair is my favorite to rest in. There are 3 more like it because it is the same as the Kitchen chairs but I like the one in front of the computer best. Mom moved a chair that looks just like it into the computer room and takes me off of that one and puts me on the other one when she or Dad needs to get on the computer but the second they are off of it, even if they just let the dogs out and come right back, I am sitting in it napping once again.

I like hiding and sleeping in the mismatched furniture cabinets in the computer room. They are dark and private for good daytime sleeping.

I don't jump on counters or tables except the computer desk but just because I want attention.

I had some trouble eating and using the litter box at first. No I didn't go to the bathroom elsewhere in the house I just couldn't go...probably not enough in my tummy. I didn't eat for about 4 or more days but I started eating and bulking up quick. That's what happens when your body goes into starvation mode. My spine and some other bones are still noticeable but most of my bones are quickly getting hidden by the food I am eating...probably covered by fat because I am quite the lazy kitty thus far.

I am new but so far that's me in a nutshell. Oh, yeah, I also like long strolls in the moonlight and don't have a girlfriend, MOL! ::control coughs and tries acting kitty tough:: Not that I am looking or anything like that.
