Arrival Story:
Our beloved Ollie was tragically killed 3 months ago, and we decided that we were finally ready to get another cat. We missed the companionship that a cat offers (we also have 3 dogs). We began looking for a kitty at the humane society and some local no-kill shelters. We saw Barnabee (originally called Pumpkin) at Yakima Valley Pet Rescue's website on Sunday morning. I filled out the application online, thinking that maybe we wouldn't get him because someone else probably already did. I decided to go to the Farmer's Market with my husband and my mom, and lo and behold, we saw that Yakima Valley Pet Rescue had a booth set up with a bunch of kittens there that were in need of a home. Amazed, we ran over there, and I immediately asked if they had Pumpkin there with them. A second later, the lady turned back to us with the cutest orange tabby kitten in her hands. I explained that I had just submitted an application a few hours ago to adopt him. She stated that another family was supposed to pick him up earlier that morning, but they never showed. I knew at that moment it was meant to be! So instead of leaving the Farmer's Market with a couple bunches of asparagus, I left with our newest family member Barnabee! We chose the name, but I didn't pay attention to what it meant until almost a week later. I was stunned to find out that Barnaby (or Barnabee) means "Son of consolation". It floored me, and is so appropriate considering that we lost our 9 year old cat 3 months earlier. We truly believe that it was meant to be!
