Late-night party!

WOW! Look at all my friends who stopped by for a late-night party in my diary last night! Thank you so much friends for all your comments, care and concern. I really can't tell you how much it means to me! I'll let mom give you an update now.

Hi friends! Thank you so much for everything! Sorry this update is late - I'm pretty tired from the party! :) I feel bad that I had such a freak out, and I was about to delete the diary entry when you all showed up. I love your comments, so I just had to leave it!

This morning, Monida woke me up (about an hour after I went to bed ...) by running back and forth across the apartment, springboarding off my bed, the couch, the counter, etc. She was chattering at the birds and her eyes would go all black and ZOOM! off again! She did this for about an hour and a half. She hasn't had the zoomies like that in quite awhile, so I thought it was a good sign.

She did go to the litter box a few times, and when I checked it, there was pee and tiny pieces of poo. So she's still having some trouble. But she ate more this morning then I've seen her eat in awhile. Still not quite enough for my liking, but an improvement.

I feel pretty confident that it's the food that's giving her an upset stomach. I've had problems with Wellness packets before, but on Tuesday I was in a hurry to grab some wet food that I knew she'd eat, just to get her to eat something. (That was the day I called the vet because she was hardly eating at all.) I've fed her a couple of the packets the past few days.

So, with all this, I didn't take her to the vet this morning, but I am watching her very carefully. If she continues to do the straining/panting thing (which I haven't seen her do again), or stops eating again, I will take her in right away. I live just a few minutes from the emergency vet, and the plus side is it's housed in my regular vets' office, so all my records are on file there.

Sorry this is so long! And I'm sorry about my panic attack! It was just late, and something I hadn't witnessed before. Thank you all for your purrs and positive thoughts! I love all you guys!!

For those in the hurricane's path, please stay safe!! I'm so worried about you!! I can't imagine how scary it must be. All my prayers to you and your families!

HURRAY FOR MONIDA ZOOMIES!!!! It's okay Nida's mommy! We understand and we're glad you left the diary. It was so funny how we were all awake in the middle of the night at the same time and all came on here to check. Seriously, when has that ever happened? It was kinda fun. Mom was loopy and poopied and now she's furry tired today.

That's so great you're that close to the vet and ER. Makes us worry less.

Yesterday, I had the poop and zoom thing going on.

It's great to know that our sleeplessness was a comfort to someone! (Nuk got the Non-Plus members Hurricane Check In thread hammered out, was able to pass on emergency contact info for Alex, Finney and Lacey's lady friend, he got to pass on the HQ Updates about the frustrating photos and I got to comfort a friend !)

It's pretty common that we don't tolerate food changes that are made quickly. (Such is unavoidable though, in instances of food recall/danger or where we won't eat our usual food and our desperate family feed us 'whatever we will eat, because eating something, is better than eating nothing!')

Your increased activity level is a really good sign, as is your eating your morning meal so heartily. (It's also a comfort to know how close and how easy access to your emergency vet is for you)

Poopie problems are no fun (and yes, they can make you nauseous) With me, my amputation surgery, resultant decreased activity, decreased water intake {even though I was only eating 'wet' food} all conspired make me impacted.

I would guess that the recent *food enticements* and decreased activity from the heat contributed your own constipation. It's good you have a Mama so *in tune* to you habits, that she notices the difference in any behavior (eating, playing and litter box)

Thanks for not deleting your diary. Your Mom may feel like she *panicked* but I can guarantee that she's not the first or the last Kitty Mama to see such signs and be alarmed. That's Love (as is all of our late-night pawty in your diary comments)
Love You Monida !

To be on the safe side, Monida, your mom should take you for a vet check anyway. My sisfur Zsa Zsa (who is at the Bridge now) had the same problem as you - wandering from box to box constantly, couldn't poop, (and she started to smell really bad), and it turned out she was so constipated she had to be sedated and cleaned out manually. It was just pawful. No more dry food for her after that, only wet, and mom had to give her some clear liquid (she can't remember the name) to keep her unplugged.

Also, my mom doesn't trust Wellness. She gives us Pet Guard (and sometimes Trader Joe, which we love).

I'm not saying that all Wellness food is bad, but I just wanted to put in my two cents worth. We were on regular Wellness dry food, and Mawmee switched us to Wellness Core dry because it "appeared" to be a little bit better in quality. Well, soon after we got on that dry food, Sugar and Vivien got UTI's, and then I got crystals. When checking some online message boards, it was amazing how many people were reporting crystal issues with their boy cats and had been feeding Wellness Core. So, we immediately got off the Wellness Core, and stopped using Wellness altogether. It is unfortunate because Wellness is a brand that doesn't use a lot of grains and bad fillers in their dry food. I know Charlie (of Lucy, Leo, and Charlie) also got crystals from eating Wellness, so just be careful!

I kinda question Wellness, too. I know when I've given Mo the packets before, she gets really squishy poops from it. It took me awhile to figure out that was what was causing them. No other food seems to bother her.

Hi Monida! So happy you are doing better! So glad we were around. Our mom has gotten scared many times. Really there is no need to apologize! This is the place to have a pawty and worry at the same time. MOL
We stopped eating Wellness too!
My family is eating Before Grain. We are so happy that it's not a completely balanced meal. We love, love, Quail and Chicken (wet) It has more sauce on it than the other flavors and we all like to lick.
We are also eating the BG dry.
As you know any change must come slowly. We kitties don't seem to tolerate sudden change.
Also when any of has had tummy issues we ate Medi-cal Gastro
just until our tummies were better. Should ask your vet?
in any case you can only get it at the vet.
I hope I am not telling you about a Canadian food.
I am pretty sure it's available in the US
The company is Royal Canin
Love and bonks

Hehehe Ollie! You threw me for a loop there for a minute! Mom just switched me to Before Grain and she was worried it wasn't balanced! :) Glad to hear it's OK!

Mom just ran home at dinner to check on me - I still haven't pooped, but I did eat and I'm about as active as she would expect me to be given the heat in the apartment. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler - paws crossed!

You know Wellness is one of those companies that the food is either REALLY good for some kitties or it's REALLY bad for others with no rhyme or reason to it. Can't figure it out. Lacey and I don't like it at all so we don't eat it.

Hi Sweetie,

Many catmoms swear by canned pumpkin (not the kind with spices.) I don't know anything about it, as none of us have ever been constipated. I'm so glad to hear you are more active now and have a better appetite. :D

Zoomies are not only fun..they are bene-fish-ial for helping to move that Poo along the long tunnels it has to travel medical terms...physical activity stimulates 'peristalsis'...

Glad you are starting to feel better, and you have the most attentive and tuned in Mommy! Hooray!

YAY for zoomies! Monster is right about this being a possibly serious problem. I have megacolon. Lots of times I have had only small amounts of poo, because the rest was too hard to come out and I would not want to eat because my tummy hurt. Sometime I would even get sick. Yucky, I know, but you should get checked, the vet can show your meowmy where to feel for your colon to make sure it is not too full. I used to take lactulose, DSS capsules, laxitone and cisapride, now I only take Miralax. I eat meat only canned food, no cereals or fiber type foods. Hope you continue to feel better.

Evil Step Momma Amy does not have much time to help me purr a response right now, but we wonder if maybe Monida has IBD (inflammed bowel disease). I use to have very similar periods of always going to the litter box and doing little pees and poos. No UTI. IBD might be something to mention to your vet. Slight change in diet and a medicine can do wonders.
