Who am I?

I've lost my identity -- my long, white, crooked whisker on my left side is missing! I woke up this morning, looked in the mirror, and IT'S GONE!! That whisker was so ME. I know we cats lose a whisker now and then (I've even lost my one white one before), but I've had this one so long that I was sure it was forever. My pawrents used it to tell Teddy and I apart. Now all my whiskers are black. Now, my Daddy might make a mistake and try to pet Teddy instead of me. THAT'S NOT FAIR!

Hmmm -- come to think of it, their not being able to tell Teddy and I apart might not be all bad. I should be able to get away with blaming Teddy for half of what I get into, shouldn't I?

It's My Gotcha Day!

Six years ago this evening, Teddy and I moved into our Forever Home. My Daddy and Mrs. H (we thought of them as the Housekeepers back then) had lost their only cat, Clyde, who went to the Bridge. They found that the house was really empty without a cat. Mrs. H called their vet and asked if they had two cats waiting for a home. The vet told them about us, and they came to see us that evening. The vet had put us in a room by ourselves, so we knew something must be up as we always had the run of the office. They petted us and talked to us and asked us if we wanted to go home with them. Teddy was already in love with Mrs. H, so I thought, "Sure," we can give it a try." My Daddy told Mrs. H that we could be her Valentine and Anniversary presents since they were married on Valentine's day. She's called us her "Little Valentines" ever since (ugh). Well, it all worked out, and our friend Jack, who also lived at the vet's, joined us a week later after his pending adoption fell through (thank Heaven). I think Teddy and I made the right decision. They are adequate Housekeepers for us, and I have My Daddy!

by Platelicker, to answer a few questions so ... here goes!

1. Do you ever wake your parent up in the night?

Of course, when it suits my purpose. For instance, I prefer the spot at the bottom of the bed, right in the middle. But, once in awhile, my pawrent's feet might be there. It's amazing the results you achieve by beginning at the feet and walking up the body to the head and then pawing faces. At the least, it makes them move while trying to remove me, and then I have my spot all to myself. I also enjoy singing in the middle of the night. Nothing rouses them more quickly than a Siamese aria (often compared to burglar or fire alarms). They can't figure out why I do that, and I'm not telling.

2. Do you ever tear up things?

Of course, I'm a cat. My very favorite is to shred newspapers. Just give me the Sunday paper, and I'm in Seventh Heaven. Do you know how much of a mess I can make of that much newspaper in four hours? That will teach them to leave papers around and go away. I've also taught my pawrents not to leave the mail on the kitchen island. You should have seen them trying to tape bills back together. I look upon my actions as a service to my pawrents. I've taught them to be neat and tidy and not to leave any papers around unless they are in need of confetti.

3. What's your favorite treat?

Anything crunchy -- especially Party Mix! Whoever invented them should get the trophy rosette.

4. Can you fetch something when asked to do so?

Are you kidding? If they want something fetched, they can do the fetching themselves.

5. Have you ever lived any place other than where you live?

I was born at my Vet's office and lived there for about seven months before My Daddy and Mrs. H came along and adopted me and my brothers, Jack and Teddy. We still go to that vet, and we are super popular. People who work there still remember us from our kitten days and tell our pawrents funny stories about us. They could only tell us apart by the way we acted -- Teddy was shy and scared; I was bold and always ready to protect him. When we were little ones, Teddy and I cuddled together and slept on top of the receptionist's computer monitor. (Mrs. H remembers seeing us there.) Then, we got bigger and one or the other of us would go to sleep and slowly slide down and fall off. We finally gave up on the computer monitor and chose for our favorite place the top of a cat condo in the front window. That's where my pawrents saw us. They thought we were a big black cat until we woke up and moved -- surprise, two of us. We found our forever home.

Now, I need to find some friends to tag.

Dear Diary:

I just got tagged by Baby Girl, #1093035, and she asked me:

Q.-Are you Irish?
A.-No, I am Cat.

Q.-Do you and /or your family celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
A.-Mrs. H has some decorations she puts out, including a big teddy-bear dressed as an Irishman. My brother, Jack, loves that bear -- it has a lap.

Q.- How?
A. -The decorations go up, and Mrs. H wears green to work (although she isn't Irish either).

Q.-Will you wear Green?
A.-No, I always dress in black (so sophisticated, you know).

Q.- What will you wear?
A.- My pretty black winter coat.

Q.-Do you like Corned Beef and Cabbage?
A.-I don't like any people food, but My Daddy does like it and always cooks up a pot of it.

Q.-Do you believe in leprechauns?
A.-Yes

Q.-Why?
A.-If so many people claim to have seen them through the years, there must be some truth to the tales (a bit of green beer might be involved as well).

Q.-What would you like to find at the end of the rainbow?
A.-Homes for all the homeless -- cats, dogs, humans, horses (you get the idea).

I am off to tag some furiends...

Thank you for thinking of me, Colorado.

1. Do you have a valentine?... if so... who? Oh, yes, I do. I have My Dearest Emily.

2. if not... do you wish you did? ... is there anyone particular?... I can't imagine any valentine but My Dearest Emily.

3.What's your favorite love song?... who sings it?
The Moody Blues -- Emily's Song

"Lovely to know the warmth
You're smile can bring to me
I want to tell you but the words you do not know

Sing me a lullaby
Of songs you cannot write
And I will listen for there's beauty where there's love

And in the morning of my life
And in the evening of my day
I will try to understand in what you say...

River's of endless
Tides have passed beneath my feet
And all too soon they had me standing on my own

Then when my eyes were closed
You opened them for me
And now we journey thro' our lives to what will be

And in the morning of my life
And in the evening of my day
I will try to understand in what you say

Through all that life can give to you
Only true love will see you through
And will stand beside you now in what you say

And in the morning of my life
And in the evening of my day
I will try to understand in what you say

Take me into your world
Alone I cannot go
For I've been here so long
You're leaving me behind
Walk with me now
Into your land of fairy tales
And open up that book of pages in my mind
And open up that book of ages in my mind

4.what would be a perfect valentines day for you? Sitting in the swing on the front porch, holding My Emily's hand, and talking to her all day.

Now, five friends????

When he gets into bad trouble?

And am I ever in trouble!! Both Mrs. H and My Daddy are mad at me. Let me tell you what happened.

I was just chillin' out, half asleep on My Daddy's lap. Teddy was laying on his table next to His Mommy, and Jack was looking out the Big Window. All of a sudden, there was a loud noise as Teddy jumped off the table and attacked Jack. Now, believe me, no one jumps Jack except me. He's my playmate, and no one is allowed to make him squeal except me. So, I jumped down and went after Teddy. He ran, and I chased him through the house. I'd catch him and make him hiss and howl, let him go, and catch him again. Of course, His Mommy is chasing both of us yelling for me to stop. Then, horrors, My Daddy yelled at ME. So, I stopped chasing Teddy -- for a couple of minutes. But I was so mad at Teddy that I chased him again. My Daddy scooped me up and put me in the Little Room.

So here I am -- all alone in this little room. Now, I ask you; is that fair?

They're trying to tell me that Teddy did nothing wrong. He was just scared when His Mommy knocked over her coffee cup and jumped on the floor, which scared Jack, who meowed. Likely story.

On His First Date

On Saturday, I had my very first date at The Cat's Meow. It was with Emily (Catster Id: 855516). I had decided to take her to Vail, CO, for lunch. My Daddy let me borrow his fast car. Of course, my pesky brothers had to try to stow away in the back seat. I showed my Emily all the sights on the way to Vail -- the mountains are beautiful this time of year. We lunched at the Wild Flower room. Using Catster magic, they had created a perfect summer day for us. It was quite tempting to chase the butterflies and the hummingbirds, but I didn't want Emily to think I was kittenish and not all grown up. Emily looked so beautiful among the trees and flowers. On the way home, we stopped in Georgetown for ice cream and in Idaho Springs for a pizza. Our parting was so romantic. (Blush) She kissed me on the cheek. I sent her flowers cause that's what My Daddy said gentlemen do.

Diary, I do believe I am smitten.

I just don't understand!

My Daddy and Mrs. H are never satisfied to just leave well enough alone. Don't they realize that I am very happy with My House as it is. Do you know what they did, Dear Diary? They put new stuff in My House -- and even worse -- in My Daddy's office. Don't they realize how much I loved sunning myself on that ratty old chair while I work on my novel? And his old desk is gone and all the furniture is moved around. I just know I'm going to stub my toe in the dark on all this new stuff. These things don't smell like me. Don't they know how much time it will take me to make it all smell good? Oh, my, the work ahead of me -- I don't know where to begin.

Later: Well, Dear Diary, surprise, surprise. You know that new chair in My Daddy's office I was complaining about? Let me tell you -- is that chair just made for a cat. The back is curved just so -- wraps around me like My Daddy's arms. And soft -- I could nap for hours if my pesky brothers would just leave me alone. To top it all off, it sits in the SUN. It was so nice of My Daddy to buy Me this new chair.

When his brother really shows him up?

Can you believe that Jack, of all cats, had a diary of the day award. Little Jack? I can't believe it. See, Jack is like my little brother. We were born on the same day, but we had different pawrents. I've always taken care of Jack -- if he gets into trouble, I'm right there for him. If Teddy gets to playing too rough, I'll step right in and protect him. If he gets stepped on (as he sometimes does because he's always at someone's feet), I'm right there to give his head a good licking and make him all better. So, I guess I'm happy for him. But, really, come on now -- I'm the author in the family.

When he has a spell of insomnia?

Last night, I just couldn't get to sleep. First, I got all settled on Mrs. H's feet and here comes Teddy. He laid down on her legs -- just a bit closer to me than I would like. I pulled his hair, and he hissed at me. At ME -- can you believe it? I was so upset that I just couldn't get to sleep. So, I decided to go downstairs and find something to do. Thought about writing more of my novel, but I suffered from writer's block. So I pulled a mouse from the toy box and killed it. Then, I got the tiger and killed it. I pulled almost all of the toys out of the toy box and killed them all. Then, I found a Tootsie Pop wrapper that Mr. H hadn't thrown away. Now, friends, there's REAL fun!! Nothing is more fun to chase than a rolled up Tootsie Pop wrapper. Guess I was making too much noise, because Jack came down to see what I was doing. When he saw all his balls all over the floor he didn't know which to chase first. He was so rowdy, I took my Tootsie Pop wrapper and went back upstairs to bed. Found a nice warm, cozy spot behind Mrs. H's knees and finally dropped off. Mr. & Mrs. H were a bit surprised this morning to see ALL (and ALL is lot and lots) the toys all over the house (including on the stairs) and a Tootsie Roll wrapper in their bed. But what's a cat to do when he has insomnia?
