Arrival Story:
Luka started showing up at the food bowl on his future Mom's porch in the Spring of 2008. His owners lived across the street and were too concerned with drinking PBR and smoking Camel Turkish Golds to take care of him. He had an infection in his eye and nose that caused him to have bloody mucus in both at all times. He smelled like something dead and rotting. He was skin and bones, and we let him eat as much as he wanted every day. His mother-to-be finally asked his owners if they wanted him or not, and they said they were just going to put him to sleep because he was sick. They agreed to give him up instead. The vet treated him for ear mites, a severe sinus infection, worms, and a chronic mouth infection (that's where the death smell was coming from). The vet said the mouth infection had become gum disease and would require further treatment after his other ailments cleared up. Three months later, another vet confirmed that his teeth would have to be removed in order to rid Luka of the gum disease. After his surgery, Luka was a new cat. He had tons of energy, had no bad breath, and resumed eating hard food immediately. He is happy and healthy now and glad he joined this family!
Bio:
Luka is an all-around happy cat. Even when he was very sick, he played all the time. He rarely hisses at other cats and is not at all confrontational. He is sweet as can be, and it is appalling to think his former owners were too lazy to have his infections treated. If they had been treated earlier, he wouldn't have had to have his teeth removed. He loves to snuggle, and he often stretches out his paw as if to say, "I love you!"
