Arrival Story:
Libby was a little wild kitten from the feral colony that used to live across the road. My neighbour trapped her at about six weeks and I took her to try to socialise her and find her a good home. For the first three days, Libby lodged herself underneath a chest of drawers and would not come out. You couldn't even see her. But in no time at all, she discovered the joys of cuddles and jumping on the big bed, food whenever she wanted it and playing with catnip mice dangled on strings. And once she moved in, she never moved out. Spaying was a problem. Libby was nibbling at her stitches as I carried her from the vet's office to the car, so I took her straight back and the vet put an Elizabethan cone collar on her. When we got home, she ran under the bed and I thought I'd let her calm down under there. Bad mistake! She had that collar off and had gnawed through her stitches in three minutes flat and we had to turn around and take her straight back to the vet again to be restitched. 'Right,' he said, 'no more loose collars for you,' and he tied it very tightly. But Libs never stopped trying to get it off. Luckily, the next time she succeeded, and gnawed away most of her stitches, her wound had more or less healed. She got the nickname 'Staunch Kitty' over that episode. She was so funny with the collar, it was so big on her that when she walked, it would hit the ground and she would get stuck because she couldn't go forwards and didn't think of going back. I would have to rescue her by picking her up. We were all relieved when that collar finally came off.

Bio:
Libs is still very wary of any visitors or strangers coming to the house. If she can run away, she will, and she doesn't reappear until all the visitors have gone. She is getting less timid as she gets older but only slightly. Strange, then, that she is the nosiest cat I have ever had and will spend hours hiding in a hedge or sitting at a window, spying on the neighbours and all the passers-by. She also loves cars, especially sitting on top of them (and leaving little paw prints all down the windscreen) and underneath them, so I always doublecheck where Libby is before I start the car. Her favourite occupation is hunting and she is unfortunately very good at it, even with a collar and bell. She quite often brings in a live mouse and lets it go, then looks bewildered when it scurries somewhere she can't get hold of it. I was hoping my cats would dissuade mice from coming round the house, not deliver them into the hallway. She gets on reasonably well with Jasper, her brother. She loves it when he comes up to her and starts grooming her, when she's in her beanbag. There is a definite, 'Yes, go ahead, peel me a grape,' expression on her little face. She's not so happy when the big lump then usually jumps on her. They love to chase but she doesn't enjoy getting caught. She is quite vocal and very successful at making her little feelings felt. Lately she has started jumping onto my knee when I am at the computer a lot more. Perhaps my little wild child is finally turning into a lap kitty.
