Arrival Story:
Rusty was adopted from our shelter when he was around 6 months of age, just two months before we moved into a new home. To get him adjusted to a second new home so quickly, we would often take him to the new house while we were getting ready to move in. He would race through the empty house from top to bottom, it was hysterical to watch. When moving day came he was very well adjusted to his new home.

Bio:
We have since acquired three other cats and he has been a pretty good sport about it. He is especially sweet and loving with the Skittles, the youngest cat. He will groom her as if she was his own.

My 14th Birthday!

Sunday was my 14th Birthday! Pretty hard to imagine. It seems like only yesterday.....hmmmm. I must be getting old, I feel nostalgic!

We didn't do too much to celebrate on Sunday, but let me tell you about Tuesday! Wait, maybe I should start with the middle of last week. Our fountain was acting up. Sometimes it would run and sometimes it would stop. When it wasn't running, Ivan would bite the edge of it, try to pick it up and bang it back down. (It is actually velcroed to a mat because he can pick it up and spill it). Mom cleaned it a few times thinking that something was wrong with the filter or the pump. Well on Thursday she felt the cord and it was way too warm. So the fountain was no more! A sad day in our household. We all love the fountain, Mom is constantly refilling it. She got on the computer and ordered us a new one...while she was at it she ordered us 2 new scratching posts and one for our other grammy's kitten too.

On Tuesday, Skylar was waiting on the radiator for the mailman. He watches for him every day. Skylar saw someone else first though...the UPS man, leaving 3 big boxes on our porch. He ran and told us and we all took turns looking out the window and trying to guess what was inside. We didn't get to open the boxes till the Moms were both home. It was awesome! We were thrilled to have a fountain again and we are enjoying the new posts. One is carpet and one is sisal and they are tall so we can stretch good when we scratch. We also have one of those corrugated cardboard lounge scratchers and we love that too. We also got to play in the big boxes, that was almost as much fun!

Many thanks for all who stopped by my page for my birthday. I'm so glad you are still hanging out here. Thank you for the gifts and well wishes. Special thanks to WeBeeSiamese for the picture, you made this old man look downright handsome! Love you guys more than my new scratchers,

Rusty

A little change of pace and a monsoon too!

Hi! Thank you all for the purrs. I am starting to feel a little better and it sure is nice to be back home. Let me tell you what happened. It goes something like this....

On Tuesday night, I hacked up a hairball. After that I threw up about 3 more times and I was really not myself. Mom gave me some Pepcid and we all went to sleep. The next morning I didn't want breakfast and was still really wiped out, so Mom called the doctor and I got a noon appointment. They had me on fluids all afternoon. The vampire came and took some of my blood. They started me on something for pain, an antibiotic and some anti-nausea meds. They sent me home around 6:30. The doctor called Mom at work and said to keep an eye on me and suggested that if there was no improvement I should go up to the animal hospital the next morning.

Mom knew she couldn't miss work on Thursday morning, so she decided that it would be better to take me that night then wait till Thursday after work. So there we are at midnight, out on the highway on the way to the hospital. Not a lot of traffic, just some big trucks. When we got there, it was just us. No other patients. No lines, no waiting, no big dogs in the waiting room.

I got an x-ray and got put back on fluids and got settled in my cozy cage for the evening. The next morning, my sweet doctor was in to see me. She fusses over me so much. She gave me an exam and an ultrasound. We even made a movie (of my ultrasound, how cool is that!) I even ate a little baby food for her when she coaxed me. She called Mom and said that they would do bloodwork and keep an eye on me in the afternoon. If things looked okay, they would send me home.

Mom got a call around 5:30 that she could come and pick me up for around 6:30PM. In Mom's town, they were having a big thunderstorm with lots of rain. Mom grabbed a quick bite to eat, let the storm slow down and was out the door. She met with the doctor and picked me up.

(Funny side note, at the check-out desk there was another family checking out too and they had a big dog that was being discharged. He came over and sniffed my crate. I let out a growl that turned heads in the waiting room. The dog jumped back and walked away, he turned to look back at me and I let loose another deep growl. Mom told me to be nice and knock it off, and I responded with a really wimpy meow. The girl behind the desk was laughing and so was the doggy Mom and Dad.)

On our way home it rained so hard. Mom had the wipers going on high speed and her flashers on because we could only go about 40 miles an hour on the highway. You just couldn't see for how hard it was raining. It was even hard to hear, the rain was so loud on the roof of the truck. Mom had to pull over at a rest stop and wait out the storm. We sat with the radio on and waited till it slowed down some.
We then continued home and the rain picked up again, it poured buckets. The roads had streams running along the sides and even had ponds of water in some places. Mom was glad she was in the truck, because it was pretty deep in some spots. We finally made it home, it was pouring, lightening, thundering and wicked. We made a dash for the front door and Mom got soaked...but we were HOME!

I'm glad to be home. I'm not eating that much yet, but as the meds kick in I'm sure I will get my appetite back. Plus Doc gave me an appetite stimulant so that will help too. Thank you all for your purrs and power of the paw. That means a lot to me. You guys are wonderful!

Love and head nudges,
Rusty

My Thung ith Thut

Yep, that is what it is. And if I could speak, that is what I would have said. My thung ith thut! Translated...."My Tongue is Cut"

I wasn't eating like I normally do on Sunday and Monday, so Mom called the vet and they took me in on Tuesday morning. I wasn't throwing up or anything else, but I wasn't myself and seemed interested in food but then couldn't eat. Mom thought maybe I had a toothache.

Mom dropped me off at the vet and then called back to see what they had found. The doctor talked to Mom and said that they had given me some fluids and that she found a large laceration on my tongue and that was probably the reason I was not eating. She sent me home with meds for pain and told Mom to water down my wet food or give it to me by syringe if I won't eat it on my own.

Since taking the pain meds, I am eating on my own. No crunchies though, they are still too painful. Mom doesn't know what happened. Doc said I could have bitten my own tongue or cut it licking something sharp, like a cat food can lid or empty can. Mom is not sure how it happened. I am not usually an object chew-er so it is unlikely that I would put something strange in my mouth.

Sorry we have not been around much lately. Mom is still going a little crazy because of our Grammy. She did get to go to a nursing home/rehab center last Thursday and Mom has been going to see her and take her things that she needs. Gram has good days and bad days. Mom is wiped out from everything. So stressful.

Hope to see you guys soon. Skittles will be by to give her birthday thank yous and tell the snowball story and Skylar might be in to tell you about Aunt Anita's upcoming short stay.

Happy Thrpring!
Ruthty
