The Grass is Always Greener

The grass is always greener...when it is grown inside in January! We have been having a great time nibbling on fresh grass this week. Not from the yard...our yard is covered with snow. Our Grammy bought us a little kit for Christmas to grow grass indoors, Mommy planted it, put it somewhere warm and dark and then promptly forgot about it for about a week. Mom! Anyway...the other day she took it out and the grass was kind of white looking. She put in the room with the other plants and the next day the grass was green. It is about 3 inches long and very tender and tasty. We get to nibble a little each night. Mommy saved some seeds and she promises she will plant some again. Thanks Grammy...we are loving this present! Purrs, Skylar

Build a boat or get a mop!

Yesterday morning Mom came in to the kitchen to find a flood on the floor and several of us playing in the water. At first she didn't realize why the floor was wet and she wondered if she should A)Build a boat B) Get a mop and/or C) Call the plumber.
It turns out; it really wasn't THAT much water. Mom has a soft heart and will leave a container of water outside for the neighborhood strays. It has been very cold, so overnight she brings the container in, puts a lid on it and sits it on the radiator to thaw because it is usually frozen. Our birdbath also has a heater and the cats will also drink from there. So, I wont name names, but someone knocked the container off the radiator, pried off the lid and chewed little holes in the bottom of the container. It was fun; there was water over half of the kitchen floor! Most of us like running water; we have a fountain, we love sinks, and will often splash around in the tub. Mom didn't plan on mopping the kitchen floor yesterday; but thanks to us, its now half clean!

Sassy, Where Have You Gone? We Miss You!

As many of you are aware; a wonderful friend by the name of Sassy has been missing from Catster. Not missing, as in ran away from her physical home, but her Catster page is gone.

Sassy is known to be such a sweet kitty who is alwyas one of the first to leave a comment on a diary entry or a picture or kind word of support when you need it most.

She warned us that she would be missing over the holidays. She was having company and wouldn't get to check in much. We missed her, but waited expectantly for the New Year and the visit to our pages from Sassy. But they didn't come. She wasn't there; or at the KCK, or in the forums. She was gone from friend lists and corrals. Her friends wondered to themselves and each other; "have you heard from Sassy?" "where is Sassy?" "Are there Catster fleas again?"

Mommy contacted Catster hoping it was a just a flea. Our response from Catster follows:

Thanks for checking in.

For whatever reason, Sassy's caretaker decided to leave Catster. Sorry your friend chose to leave, but her Cat of the Week blog page remains.

If you happen to know Sassy's Mommy and can email her: Please tell her that we miss her very much. We wish she would come back. She was and is one of those wonderful friends that make Catster such a great place to be. The love, support, friendship, understanding, etc. If she needed to leave, I understand: I just wish we could have had the chance to say "Thank You" and "Good-bye till we meet again"

So to each of my friends I will say it now: Thank You! It is wonderful having each of you in my life! And Good-bye till we meet again! You all hold a very special place in my heart.
Purrs and some tears,
Skylar

New Year's Resolution, Anyone?

So...it's that time of the year again. Have you made your New Year's Resolutions? Mommy said once again this year that she will try to eat healthier and get more exercise. Of course, she says that every year! So what about me? What have I resolved?

Well, I could resolve to help Mommy! I think she should cook more salmon! That would benefit us both! And I can help her with the exercise thing too...I can run like the wind when she grabs me to do my nails. She will get her exercise chasing me all over the house! MOL! And toys...I resolve to leave my toys all over the house. That way Mom will have to walk all over the house to find them and bend and stretch to pick them up.

I also resolve to wake Mommy up earlier. If she is up and out of bed more hours, she will burn more calories!

I resolve to get Mommy away from the kitchen table. If I think she is almost done eating I will go to the far end of the house and give my most pitiful meow and, of course, like a good Mommy she will come to find me and make sure I am okay.

I resolve to spill more water from the fountain in the kitchen. Scrubbing the floor surely will burn some calories too.

I resolve to request more fur brushing time. My Mom will have the best biceps in the state by next year; as long as she alternates brushing with her left hand and her right.

I also resolve to love my Mommy; even if she doesn't stick to her resolutions (or mine). This one won't be hard at all, I love Mommy!

What are your New Year's Resolutions?

Happy New Year My Friends!

Snow, Snow, Snow

Well...it's here! The snow started this afternoon and it keeps on coming. It got really cold and windy tonight too. Mom would love another day off from work (and we would love to have her home with us) but we doubt that it will happen.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We got some toys and a catnip cigar that we absolutely love. Boy is that strong catnip! Wow! Our Grammy sent Mom home with a gift bag last night. Grammy bought us treats and a little dish to grow grass in the house. She knows that Murphy loves to nibble on grass.

We are also enjoying the sampling of some holiday food. Mom let us have a little bit of ham on Christmas and some fish. Yummy! We nibbled some hard boiled egg, some celery leaves and a bit of that cookie that dropped on the floor. All mighty tasty!
Gotta go now...Mom wants to go to bed early because she knows she will have to shovel in the morning. Stay safe everyone! Purrs, Skylar

Stop with the camera already

First it was the photo contest, then it was the red scarf, then it was the hat...Mommy enough with the camera! But no, she even followed my litter sister Roni to the shower upstairs. Can't a cat get a little privacy around here? Anyway, Mom took a video of Roni playing peek a boo around the shower curtain. She plays every night and every night Mom says "Gee, I should have the camera ready" Well, she finally had the camera ready so please check out Roni's new video playing in the tub. She and her sister came to us this summer. If you are already my friend, but not theirs; feel free to send a friend request too. Thanks! Purrs, Skylar

Stowaway

Today was it was Ivan and Percy's turn to go to the vet for check-ups and shots. Since the office is only minutes from our house, Mom takes one cat and then comes back and gets the other. So today Ivan went first; he did just fine although he was a little embarrassed when the Dr took his temperature. He came home and Mom put the carrier down and ran in the kitchen to get Percy's pet folder. She came back in, loaded Percy in the carrier and loaded us in the car. Yes, I said US! After Ivan got of the carrier, while Mom's back was turned, I snuck in the carrier. She never noticed I was in there till we got out in the car. Mom turned to put our seatbelt on and there were two cute faces looking back at her. I tried to stowaway and go to the vet too. Actually I didn't really know where we were going, so maybe if I had known; it wouldn't have been merely as exciting. So needless to say, we got carried back in the house and I was unloaded from the crate. Sorry Percy, I know you wanted some company cuz you were scared. I tried! But I heard you were very brave anyway.

Christmas Carols for Cats!

Mom got an early Christmas present from a friend of hers. It is a book called "Christmas Carols for Cats". So of course, she has been singing them to us. I thought I might share one of my favorites with you....
"We Wish for the Fam'ly Goldfish"
(sung to the tune of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"

We wish for the fam'ly goldfish
Why in a bowl and not in our dish?
We wish for the fam'ly goldfish
To bring us good cheer

Of longing we sing for food to appear
We wish for the fam'ly goldfish to bring us good cheer

We long for the hamster squeaking
Along to his house we're sneaking
We long for the hamster squeaking
A snack we revere

In wonder we sing why live food is here
We long for the hamster squeaking a snack we revere

We're sick of the budgie chirping
Let's eat him and all be burping
We're sick of the budgie chirping
Each day of the year

This food that can talk we do not hold dear
We're sick of the budgie chirping each day of the year

Enjoy! Maybe later this week I'll share another one.

Thank You for an Awesome Day!

I had a really awesome day yesterday. We woke up to find that I was Diary of the Day. Mom was so happy for me. She did go on her shopping trip in the afternoon and made the stop at Petco as promised. She bought two really cool things and one thing that none of us like. First the coolest thing...Humans, do you remember jaw breakers candy? Those big hard balls of pure sugar. Mom found something called "Pawbreakers" It is the same size as a jawbreaker but it is solid catnip. It is awesome! We all sniffed it, licked it, batted it around the floor. Only Ivan, with his big mouth, tried to take a bite. Mom won't let us play with it unattended, so that we don't try to take a bite and get it stuck in our mouth. She worries too much. The second things was this furry/feathery thing that can be attached to a stick. We like to play with it unattached so that we can carry it around the house. We had a great time with that last night.

Here's the thing we don't like... Mom bought a little Santa hat and scarf set. She wanted us to wear them and pose for pictures. AIN'T HAPPENING! Not one of us will wear the hat and the scarf is too small to go around most of our necks. So don't hold your breath waiting for some cute picture of me in a Santa hat.

I want to thank the diary girl for picking me yesterday; it was quite a thrill. But most of all I want to thank you, my friends, for really making my day! I got friend requests, rosettes, tons of treats, ribbons and a trophy and presents and an awesome picture. I also want to thank my friends for leaving comments when photos or diary entries are posted. That little thoughtful gesture means so much to me. You are the best!

Hey...That's Me!

Wow...Mom was on the computer this morning and saw my cute picture as Today's Daily Diary Pick. We are absolutely thrilled! She was on the computer to print out some coupons because she is going shopping this afternoon. Now she will have to make one more stop...I think some treats or a new toy from Petco are in order to celebrate. She already ran to find me and give me hugs and kisses. Oh, Mommies can be so silly. I played hard to get, but I was just teasing her. My purrs gave me away. More later.... Purrs, Skylar
