Skylar's Scribbles

A Bright Spot in an otherwise really dark week

I am a diary pick today and this as been the only bright moment in our house this week. Maybe in the last two weeks even.

Mom's Mom (our Grandma) was in the emergency room 4 times in 8 days. She was having horrible nosebleeds and they can't figure out why. She is on blood pressure meds, but she is not on blood thinners. They think it might be a sinus infection. Thank goodness Mom isn't squeamish about blood, because she sure saw alot of it. This started happening before she went away and Aunt Anita and Mom's cousin checked in on grandma while Mom was away.

Then Thursday came. Mom started her day at 3AM with a call from the hospital that Grandma was being discharged from the ER. Turns out, Grandma has a bad nosebleed at night, called 911 and Mom didn't even know until the hospital called to say "Come and get her".

Later that afternoon, Mom was home, trying to get a nap, when the phone rang. More bad news. One of Mom's best friends died of a massive heart attack. Mom was exhausted, devastated and an emotional wreck. She made a bunch of phone calls and went to bed.

Friday she went with friends to his house to help the family clean and get things ready for the funeral. She also did Grandma's banking and got her groceries. She was gone most of the day.

******A note from Mom. I truly am heartbroken. I haven't cried like this since my father passed away. He was such a good friend. He knew me better than I knew myself. He loved to text (every time I hear that chime, I still expect it to be him), he loved to talk, but he was also an awesome listener that knew just the right things to say to make you feel better. We would sometimes meet for coffee and a 10 minute chat in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot (We both liked Krispy Kreme better, but that was too far away). I loved him like a big brother. I have no regrets, I always told him how much I appreciated his friendship and how much he meant to me. I just wish we could have had more time together. I miss him so much.

Skylar, tell your momma that we are so sorry to hear about her friend. Life sure is not fair sometimes. All we can do is take one day at a time, and put one foot in front of the other. We send extra purrs your way.
