Arrival Story:
Several years ago a friend who lived in a small town near me called to place an ad in the paper for a cat he'd found, trying to get a home for him. He told me "I was going to the post office, and this cat just walked up to me, looked up into my eyes, meowed out loud, and collapsed on my feet." We advertised for several weeks, but there were no takers, so when the vet who was boarding the "rescue" offered to neuter him for free, I decided to take him. He was a skinny thing -- but he's taken full advantage of never having to miss another meal!

Winston never meets a living being he doesn't like. He's taken in every kitten since him (though Frost is his special friend) and he loves my dogs, too, which is surprising since a year ago he was mauled by a pack of dogs in his own back yard one sunny afternoon when he'd been allowed outside. They peeled the skin back from his tummy like a grape! It took a year and two surgeries, but he's now recovered fully.

Monday morning report

I am feeling much better. In fact, I'm feeling so much better that I'm up to fighting mom when she tries to give me my meds. I don't really mean to hurt her, but I don't like her forcing that nasty liquid stuff that tastes so bad into my mouth. Who can blame me, right? I mean, when I was sick I had no choice...but I'm *better" now and I don't WANT that icky tasting anti-biotic!

Thanks to everyone who has been purring for me. You're the best!

Very good mews...

I went to see the vet today, and guess what? I've gained a pound! Since they weighed me on Monday! The doc was very proud. Also, this morning when he came in to check on me, he ran a hand down my bony back and I arched up to meet the stroke...which he knows to be a good sign. He's my regular vet...the guy who did my surgeries when I was attacked by baddogs. The guy I've been seeing the first of the week is the *new* vet (Henry is semi-retired). The new guy, Dr. Rea, is nice, but I was happy to see good ole' Henry Jones.

My mom already knew I was feeling better, 'cause I've started trying to groom myself again, and I'm eating my regular dry kittie-bitties. I'm also steadier on my feet and I jumped up in mom's lap and slept a long, long time last night...AFTER she tortured me. See, she'd been trying to put canned food really close to me so I didn't have to get up in case I decided to eat something -- which she very much wanted me to do -- but all I did was lay in it...which meant my fur was in awful shape. Before she dropped me in the sink full of warm soapy water, she *promised* I'd feel better after I had a bath (and I guess I did, once I was dry) but I really hate being wet.

Hopefully, I'm on the road to recovery, and I'm CERTAIN it's largely due to all the wonderful purrs from my Catster friends. Thank you a thousand times for your support and well wishes and all the rosettes and stuff! Another big turning point was prolly the blood transfusion I got from my bro, Sirius everybody give HIM rosettes for being so sweet. They had to shave his neck and take the blood right out of a major vein! I know it must've hurt, but he didn't protest at all. He was a perfect angel, and I believe in my heart that he saved my life. Mom says he's a real hero.

Tuesday morning update

Well...I must say, Winston seems to be feeling a little bit better today. He's eating (dry kitty kibble) and drinking what I believe to be a sufficient amount of water. After trying to tempt him with chicken, roast beef, raw hamburger and liver, when he finally decides he's hungry, he wants dry crunchy. Go figure. He did drink a little bit of evaporated milk.

Two other good signs...last night when I loved on him, he purred, and he's begun to make attempts to groom himself. Both positive signs. He goes back to the vet in the morning for another checkup, so everybody keep their fingers crossed for him and check this spot for another news bulletin.

Thanks again for all your love and support during this dreadfully trying time.
